Not really sure if this is the right thread to post, kindly msg me if I wrote in the wrong one >.< I haven't seen any thread about Leekeworld sudden sale I noticed this since last year winter I think they have a sale. I thought it was just their normal winter sale etc but until now, I have been checking on them monthly and kept seeing their website that all items are mostly in sale Even the event colors that they currently have on-going. Around March to April, they have the premium colors in discounted prices too. Are they losing customers or having financial issue? I try not to buy from them anymore since I saw that they copied the body concept of a French BJD artist. I just recently knew about it around early this year, here is the link: The Wrath and Serenity: Leekeworld Boycott - Your opinion? What do you guys think about it?
I'd like to know myself. I always thought it was because there are more wig companies now than there were before so perhaps they're trying to compete with pricing? But anyway - there wigs have been a hit or a miss. I joined their last year winter sale and the wigs I ordered were either too big or the fiber was "cheap" or the style looked completely different from the picture. It was a bummer because the batch of wigs I ordered before that were made well. I don't know about their shoes now or their dolls currently.
Ohh I hope this is not true I have one of their wigs and one on order and I would fell extremely bad if that's true! Anyway the blog post dates back to April 2011, and I've seen pictures of their dolls here on DoA, I'm sure that if that was the case the Mods would have already taken action.. fingers crossed
Hmmm this is an interesting situation. I've never bought from them (although I want to) because if they were to ship it to where I live the shipping cost alone would cover the price of a second wig. I know that probably doesn't seem like much but paying 40+ (us)dollars (that's with the sale!) for one (apparently hit or miss) wig that would take forever to ship to me? Yeah I'd prefer to just make one or buy one from etsy. If only they could have a free shipping event, then I'd buy all the wigs and horns I could and I'd become a wig god! Yes, yes...muahaha. But anyway, back in topic, maybe the shipping cost is holding some people back from buying so they're discounting their products to make the cost less murderous? It may also have something to do with the boycott thing but as @lilyindollyland said that was posted back in 2011, I'm a bit skeptical of the idea that a six year old post would suddenly impact the company's sales. I feel like @krystina is probably right about the competition=lower prices. Maybe they're permanently lowering the price but instead of changing the price they make it appear as a sale? I mean, if I see something is on sale I tend to want to buy it solely because it's on sale it could also be a combination of everything. I'm really curious as well now that this has been brought up.
Yeah, I really wanted a pair of Leekeworld wigs and when I saw the sale I almost bought them, but the shipping costs are really killer, so I'll have to wait until either I want more or there is some kind of group order. I would guess the major sale is trying to clear out stock by reaching out to international customers more.
@KlanceKlanceRevolutn and @charibdys I got mine off DDE, they have a limited selection but they have some on sale as well and if you need to get a couple other things it works great **EDIT it's not like it's a limited selection..they have many to choose from even a couple custom colours it's just less than the huge amount of different styles and colours you can find in the company's online shop
I looked at DDE, but unfortunately they didn't carry the wigs in the colors I wanted, and it came out to about the same price as the two wigs+shipping direct anyway.
@charibdys Oh bummer! To me it was convenient because I ordered it with my doll and had to pay for shipping anyway... how long till we get to teleport? **EDIT: this laptop is driving me mad I swear it does whatever it wants...like posting things before I'm done writing anyway..I feel you, it seems like when it comes to shipping and custom fees my country is one of the worst to live in
Haha! That's what I ask myself all the time... or at least a mini BJD-teleporter in the home, right??
@lilyindollyland Thank you! Although it appears the sale isn't going on there as well it does look like the shipping should be a bit less! Unfortunately I don't think they sell any horns and it doesn't calculate the exact shipping (so I could be wrong and it could cost even more), however if I want a wig from there (which knowing me I probably will) it should help at least a little bit with the cost. I think I'll probably wait to order anything though and only order a wig along with something else. That will probably help, thanks again!
@charibdys totally! back on topic...I apologize for taking this thread in another direction Right now I hope that the blog post linked wasn't right...I searched the web but couldn't find any clear disproof of what was stated If anyone has more info on the matter.. meanwhile I'll keep searching
@lilyindollyland Well it appears as though Dust Of Dolls has a blog and made a post about the whole copycat thing. I can't read it because I'm on mobile and it won't display properly but I can link to it. Hopefully that will help? I don't think this will disprove it (it may make it worse) but maybe it will help clarify? I'll keep looking.
definitely not...more than anything I would like to now how it ended, since it doesn't seem to be among the banned dolls..
Lol I tend to fall for those! I agree, could just be "permanently on sale" to invoke purchases. @lilyindollyland For the Dust of Dolls thing - I think DoA decided not to ban it because it wasn't a "direct copy" meaning Leekeworld didn't take Dust of Dolls doll body, make a mold out of it, and made copies. But it was "proven" that Leekeworld took the "concept" of that body by having Dust of Dolls body pictures in their workshop when Leeke was constructing their version of that body. Also, I don't remember which doll convention it was, but Leeke was "very interested" in the Dust of Dolls booth when they debuted that body. I think DoA left it to the consumer to decide on this one and allowed the dolls to be on this site. Something like this happened before with Dollshe/Dollmore. When Dollmore first released their line of 70cm dolls - there was evidence that they directly copied Dollshe dolls bodies and Dollshe provided really good evidence on this. Dollshe cut ties with Dollmore (they were selling their dolls at the time) and I think there was a period of time they quit producing because they wanted to make a body that was harder to copy. I "think" the first 70cm Dollmores are banned, but Dollmore has since pulled those copy dolls and have constructed their own body. O yeah, there currently is a Leekeworld G.O. going on in the Marketplace. I'm probably going to hit it up despite my last wig order, because I can't learn my lesson EDIT: I just followed the link @KlanceKlanceRevolutn provided and that is what I was referring to in the stuff above I forgot all the back and forth between Leeke and DustofDolls though - kind of crappy of Leeke not to admit they were "inspired" by DoD but instead accusing them of stealing.
Thank you so much @krystina ! I believe I have found the specific thread here on DoA regarding the matter but for some reason I can't access it (I think I'm too new here to do so), so thanks again for taking your time to explain the situation the wig I recently got from them is luscious, voluminous and really great quality and I hope yours will be just as good if not better!
Like others mentioned, I have a feeling they are either 1) putting things on sale to make the entire cost including shipping not as bad or 2) marked stuff up and then put it on sale to make it seem more desirable to buyers (which seems like a crappy assumption to make and I'm not saying they're definitely doing this, but it happens all the time in regular retail). I think the first is more likely, but it's not enough for me... I had a Leeke wig I really wanted, but paying nearly 20% more for shipping than the actual product? I'd rather find another wig. I've bought doll accesories (not full dolls) from China, Japan, and Korea, and have rarely paid more than $10 for shipping, so I find it a little hard to believe that they would be unable to find another shipping option for those who want it. But hey, I've never run a company before, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oof, I just read back up about the body that Leekeworld made based off of Dust of Dolls' body. That's very disappointing. I understand inspiration, and that it's an original sculpt, but it's very close to the original artist, and surely the hip joints and waist can be drawn from inspiration-wise without making the exact body over again... hmm. I'll have Marketplace access in two months I think! Hopefully nothing goes weird with Leekeworld until then, at least wig-wise XD.
I just read all of your responses true that competing might be an issue for them to lower their price and for the shipping too. That's why it is better to join a Leeke GO than go solo. But then I did tried ordering on my own just one lol.. And it is true that mentally showing an item on sale makes more customer to go buy an item especially if that person doesn't check on that site frequently. I also never knew about that long link about the whole copyright. Like others say it is clearly that Leeke did took the concept of it. Even if I was the artist I would also feel very disappointed about it seems like it's the small company vs the big company thing. @krystina sorry to hear that >.< Though with all honesty I never had a poor quality leekewig in fact most of my doll wigs are from them. Since it's soft and they make a nice ombre or art wigs that other companies forgot who to blend 2 colors imo @lilyindollyland I guess so, that made me actually think on boycotting them but leeke wigs are really nice~ I will still be keeping an eye on them xD
Yes, they are indeed very nice quality -but, judging by the reviews, they don't always get it right- I'm torn on what to do, anyway I have my second wig from them coming in, and I'm gonna keep it if I like how it looks, I suppose I'll decide then
@lilyindollyland Oh I see then I never had any bad experience with any malfunction of their wigs Hope you get it soon and get to enjoy it
@airreyes Neither did I, well I only have one so it doesn't really count I suppose, anyway it was on their product review thread. Thank you I hope so too, I really want to bond with my bei and maybe the right wig is going to help
Glad to see this thread. I was looking at the sale as well, and then started trying to figure out if Leeke still had quality issues, but most of the things I found were from 2011 or so. Has anyone bought a Leeke world wig super recently (within the last year, say)? How'd it go? Any visible wefts? showing headcaps? poor cutting? :/
Leekeworld put up a thread saying that this sale will end on July 17th. Maybe all this time it was because they decided something like 'Hey let's have a really long sale idk why but it might be fun'
I saw that! I'm really bummed that the sale will be ending right before I get Marketplace access so I can't participate in a GO! I've been eyeing two specific wigs for a while now and I really don't wanna pay full shipping for two wigs. Darnit!
I purchased a Leeke wig from DDE a couple months ago. The size was 4/5 and the light pink Sakura color. Not a good wig at all! Very visible wig cap showing on the top of the head, and the curls are very frizzy. I tossed that one as a total waste and not usable. I knew the color was problematic, but thought maybe mine might be ok. This was my first Leeke wig, but I have had issues with Volks light color wigs too. You just never know!
Yikes! Thank you for sharing, @kurogane ! I'd rather hear about those sorts of stories than not... I'm sorry it happened to you! The light wigs seem to be particularly bad offenders
@Xila I did bought last winter event a random wig for 6-7inches for my yosd and as always I never had any problem with them. Not sure why I always get a nice item from them. I also noted them that can they put snow white and/or sakura colored wig in the 5 item random wigs and they did glad to have 2 sakura wig one long and one bob and then a snow white wig but no bangs so yea xD the 2 other wigs are shade misty i think and forgot the other a shade of blonde or it is a normal blonde
I got a 7-8 leeke wig from fabric friends a couple months ago and it was good quality. No visible wig cap though the hair is prone to frizzing a bit. It's light colored too. Seems their sale is ending in the same month their shipping is changing. Looks like after July 3rd you'll be able to choose air mail instead of ems: Leeke World
Just made a Leeke order with the new shipping changes. For anyone curious, two wigs sent via k-packet ran about $7 whereas EMS would have been $24.
I would love to purchase an authentic Leekeworld doll with leeke face up does anyone know where I might find a place I can do that? Leekeworld doesn't seem to be offering faceup option anymore
I bought 3 wigs from Leekeworld and I only paid 7 bucks airmail ...but I'm still wondering why they do not offer faceups for their dolls anymore...anybody know about that?
In my honest opinion, I believe they're just trying to compete with the other wig companies. I've noticed a decline with their quality for a while and was entirely disappointed with their wigs. It was always a given to see a tiny bit of wig cap with their "side swept" bangs, but it was minimal and you could easily cover it with other bits of hair when you styled it. But now, there are big bits of wig cap showing through hair, the side swept parts are so sparse that you can see a big chunk of the cap that you can't cover with styling anymore. I've been disappointed with every wig I've gotten from that company since I've started collecting again. (I was on a bit of a hiatus for a few years) A sale to lower the prices of the wigs and shipping isn't really going to make me buy from them again. And the two that I bought last I bought through Denver doll emporium. If the quality is there, even if I have to save up for it, I'll pay for the expensive shipping. As others have stated, some companies in retail do inflate prices and then mark them down for a sale. If that's what leeke is doing, then it's just a common practice in business. I don't feel one way or another about that. I didn't know about the body design, probably because of my hiatus, but I never really bought dolls from them as they don't fit my personal esthetic. The way the company is going though, with how their reputation and quality used to be compared to what it is now, it wouldn't surprise me to see it on a permanent sale.
Has anyone been able to do an order with the cheaper shipping option since the leeke website revamp? I just went to place an order but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to choose what type of shipping like on the old site. And it looks like it’s defaulting to EMS shipping.
I noticed during the sale I couldn’t get the cheaper shipping option, but otherwise it’s always been available to me since they started offering it
Sorry to repeat a question but has anyone recently been able to order anything with the airmail option? As with the above comments I thought it might've just been because of the sale, but now that everything's off sale I'm still not able to access an airmail option...not sure if this was removed or if I'm just missing something!
I got the drop down to show up earlier today on my iPad but I didn't do the order because I wanted to see if it showed up on the desktop version of the site. Just tried to order on both my pc and iPad but the drop down option for airmail is missing again on both. Edit 12/9: the airmail option is back up, order away!
I purchased a few wigs from Leeke earlier this year. The two that were 'limited' colors were fine in quality, and what I expected given previous experience with Leeke. The third was...a mess It was a light colored wig with super thin fibers such that the wig cap underneath was completely exposed. I nearly complained to get a refund, but figured it wasn't worth the hassle. So yeah, the monthly wigs seem better...
