Ldoll Festival 2010: Event Chat

- Original News Announcement

Hi everyone!

The Ldoll staff is proud to announce the first edition of Ldoll Festival coming up fall 2010 in France!

Ldoll Festival
October 9-10, 2010
Lyon, France
Website: http://www.ldollfestival.com/

We really want to create an international event and we hope to see many of you DoA members and your beautiful dolls at the Festival!

Lelahel,

Ldoll co-organizer.

2. Sounds fun, I wonder if I can get there easily by Eurostar :)

3. It shouldn't be too hard! :)

From London you can take the Eurostar to either Lille or Paris, then it's direct high speed train to Lyon (which takes only an extra 2 hours from Paris) :3

But I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to find cheap plane tickets from Heathrow to Lyon airport if taken really early >__>

Hope you'll get to attend :D
I'd so love to see people from abroad coming!

4. Heyyy, I'm going to be in France during this time and roughly the same area... not sure if I can go, but I will see! :-D

Raven

5. Ooh a good excuse to go to Lyon! :D *checks out the website* I've met a few French doll owners some time ago at Japan Expo and everyone was so nice, I'd love to go to this convention <3 And kudos to you for organizing a con in Europe!

6. I am glad to see this posted here!! It is my plan to do the show!!! I am excited and hope it becomes a big annual thing!!! I have always wanted to go to France!!!! So exciting!

7. I hope all three of you will be able to come! :D

It should really be tons of fun! :)
The staff is working hard to have as many vendors as possible and to organize contests/lotteries to make it worth it for international attendees to come all the way to Lyon :3

And the town is so lovely to visit. Festival or not, I hope you'll get the chance to see it someday. ^^

8. Exhibitor contracts are now available in English! :)

Sorry about the delay between the announcement of the Festival and the publication of those contracts.
I've been in charge of translating them from the French, and I took all my time to make sure I was doing things right with the legal vocabulary.

It's all done now!
No commitment involved when you ask for one ^^
We have already quite a few people who asked us about sales tables, so we hope to have as many exhibitors as possible for you! :D

9. Thanks to LDoll!

Cerisedolls and ourselves Dust of Dolls will be present at this festival with all finished dolls we have!
We will work a lot to be ready!!

^^

10. We can't wait to see your creations, Nyo :D

Thank you for your hard work! <3

11. Ooh this is great Nyo, I can't wait to see Tank in real life!

12. Whoo! I'll have moved by then to the UK! Will definitely have to see if I can check it out! Depends on school though, ha ha!

13. DamirSoull - Great timing! :D
I hope you'll be free for that particular weekend!
It's pretty easy to come to France from the UK, and depending how early you can book tickets, it can be pretty cheap too :)

14. I think I will be back in France by this time... it would be awesome to meet others from the European area (and other Americans it seems too) here!

15. Ah! I remember meeting you at Paris Fashion Doll, International Velvet! :D
You were really nice and you looked so happy to be there! XD
(I was with my friend Samael69 who brought his big, red-head E.I.D Jessica with him ^^).

I hope you'll enjoy yourself even more at this new convention <3

16. I have never been to a doll festival and one in Lyon seems a brilliant idea!

I even have a go from my husband who said oh there are good flights to Lyon from where we live! Excelent...

I really hope I can come But I will have to fly alone(gulp) I don't fly well even with company but for dolls well I can do this!!
I looked at hotels and it seems reaonable so I will get myself sorted out.

17. Demented Pea - Awesome!!! :D
Are you going to bring one of your dolls? *o*

I remember the first time I had to fly on my own, I was really nervous I'd get lost at the airport loool.
I'm sure everything will go fine :3 It's a short flight, you'll see :) Then from the airport to the city, it's a direct bus shuttle and only 20min-ish.

Let us know if you need any information at all about the trip or the hotels.
You can ask on the Ldoll forums too ^^
Maybe some other British attendees will be interested in flying in the same day as you ^^

I'm so glad you guys are planning on coming! :fangirl:
:chocoheart

18. Yes I will bring some dolls with me but I don't know what to bring! or who...Can the dolls be packed safely or will I be allowed them as carry on luggage I wonder?

I hope that all my plans work out, thanks for the welcome words too Jaina and I will have a look on the LDolls forum.

19. I think it would probably be best to take them as your carry on luggage.

I don't think there's anything wrong with them as an object to take with you on the plane... I mean, they aren't sharp or possibly converted into weapons loool.
The only thing you have to check is what size you are allowed for your carry-on luggage to be.

Some companies are way stricter than others, and an SD size transport bag might not fit to their size regulations. An MSD size bag should fit any company's standards I think...

20. We are very proud to collaborate with Winddolls who are the official French resellers for more than 9 BJD companies! Including:
Fairyland, Souldoll, Dikadoll, Angelheim, Monique, Doll in Paradise, Island Doll, Doll Family, Alice's Collections... :D

Thanks to Winddolls, you shall find dolls and products from all those companies at Ldoll Festival!

• The Ldoll tea room:

A special meet-up area within the exhibition hall is planned!

Some tables and chairs are reserved exclusively for the purpose of giving you a comfortable area to gather, chat, and safely handle your dolls.
The Meeting Lounge area is to be an important feature of the Festival. We think it is essential for the Festival not to turn into an impersonal exhibition, but rather be a place where you really enjoy spending your day. Therefore we encourage all attendees to bring one or more of their dolls!

I'm looking forward to reading your comments on these news and to see who is thinking of attending! :aheartbea

:chocoberry

21. Thank you for the add on flickr! I've noted it in my diary, I would LOVE to attend something like this ^_^ Only problem is thats it is the same month as Blizzcon, I am going to have to do some planning AND budgeting if I attend both! ;)

22. We're looking to attend this too.

Since a few of you are from the UK too, do you guys mind sharing any information you find along your way? Like prices of train/plane fares, lodgings etc..

We've been superbusy and haven't looked into any of those yet!

23. PrincessMagick - No, thank -you- for following us and for being so eager about this event! :D
*hugs*
I've just created the Flickr account today and I've been roaming the site to find people who would be interested. I'm glad I came across your profile! ^^ (and apparently Flickr has an anti-spasm system because it blocked me after I had added more than 100 contacts XDDD So I'll be waiting to be able to add more people lol).

Ah! The same month as Blizzcon... :'/ That's really unfortunate -__- We tried not to have any other major event overlap with ours when we settled the dates, but obviously we forgot at least one >__<
Well I hope you'll be able to attend both! >///<
Thank you again for your support! I'd be looking forward to meeting you! <3

Xynsta - Great! :aheartbea I'm really glad to have more British collectors attend! :P (I'm so looking forward to speaking English with you guys lol I've been missing it ^^; ). Do not hesitate if you have more questions about transport/ accommodations. Do not hesitate to use our Ldoll Forums for this kind of matter as well if DoA is not convenient enough ^^

I can't wait!
:chocoberry

24. I would love to come to this!!! It sounds like its going to be so much fun!! I will have to talk to my husband, and see if we can come!! I have lots of tiny BJDs, so its easy for them travel!! :)

25. That would be great! :D
Try to lure your husband by telling him how nice the city must be to visit, if he's not really into dolls XD

Tinies are definitely the best to take around, in transports as well as to carry around all day ^^

26. Now this seems like a great excuse for me to finally see France xD. I'll definitly try to come :D.

27. Awesome! :P
I'm looking forward to seeing you there! :3

If you guys need some pointers on what's worth seeing in Lyon, I usually point to that site which is quite well made:
http://www.en.lyon-france.com/

But if you wish to see something in particular, I'd be happy to help ^^
:aheartbea

28. Depending on how you pack them, you can check your dolls as well. I was unable to carry them on my last Brittish Airways flight, but they survived the trip from Houston to London just fine in the checked luggage because i had packed them well. And I had like 5 dolls in that suitcase and a couple others in my other suitcase!

I have high hopes of attending Ldoll! I am planning a trip to London for September/October, we've just not settled on a date yet - but hopefully I will see you guys there!

29. I really hope the dates of your London trip will match! :D

And thank you for your input regarding checking-in dolls.
I was asked about this issue on the Ldoll forums but I didn't have any testimony to advise that person better.
^^

30. Haha. Actually that person is me! *waves*

Oh. We are registered as angelDollsUK in the Ldoll forum, but that's just SarahRachael and me. :)

31. Ah! I wasn't sure if it was you XDDD

Thank you for following us both here and on the Ldoll forums! *hugs*
I hope you'll get more info about travelling with multiple dolls!

I really hope you'll attend and I can't wait to meet you in person! :D

32. I would love to attend, I have to find out if I've gotten into my course for that part of the year though (that way I can book that time off and not miss out in my classes)
I told my mum as soon as I read about LDoll, she'd been thinking of taking a short break to France and its close to my birthday so itd be killing two birds with one stone. And if I'm extra lucky I might be able to convince her into spending maybe a day or two in Paris before heading to Lyon, I'll be promising to buy tickets to Disney if she agrees to that :)
I'm getting over-excited just thinking about it hehe, just thinking of all the amazing places I could take pics of my dolls ^_^

33. Lunaera_Sylvarii - Waa that sounds like an awesome trip! :D
I really hope you'll get into your course and you'll get your schedule quick so you can make plans! ^^

It'd be really nice if you could go both to Lyon and Paris! And Disneyland of course XDD
Coming to Lyon from Paris (and vice versa) is really easy. It's a direct 2h train ride with the high speed train ("TGV" - official website here).
The train station in Paris from where the train leaves is in fact called "Gare de Lyon".
(Edit: if you get to take your tickets in advance the round trip can be as cheap as 60€ - in first class even, depending on offers; to way more if it's a last minute purchase)

I hope you'll get to visit some of Lyon too! Paris is a must-see but there's so much to see in Lyon as well ^^
:chocoberry

34. I want to goooo! Since I had the misfortune of being born in the Philippines and thus have a Philippine passport I would need to apply for a French visa to be able to travel there. But it'll be worth it! I should be done with my studiies by September and I'll have time to apply!

35. Santinian - I didn't know you needed a visa for tourism when you came from the Philippines x_x
Such a hassle! I'm sorry you have to do those papers.
Thank you so much for taking that time and money just to come to Ldoll ;3;
We'll definitely make the festival worth your while!! :whee:

36. Wooo! I am not going to miss this! Finally, an european event ^^!! count me in!

37. I hope that I will be able to attend, too. Like Nanyalin said, finally an European event :D

38. Nanyalin, Sharkyra - Awesome! :D
I hope you'll be able to bring at least one of your dolls :3 I'd love to see them (in addition of yourselves of course ;)) !

39. that's really great to see you're enthusiast and some of you will maybe come from abroad ! We feel even more motivated now, and thank you jaina for being so prompt to answer to questions !! ^_^

40. Thanks Jaina, I will for sure bring one along. ;)

41. Sharkyra - I'm looking forward to it! :D

42. I go to this first BJD festival in France !!!!!

43. Yay :D
We can't wait to meet you there Blanchealix!

44. I guess I'm coming too. ^^ Have to find out about travelling stuff first.

45. Handful of people from Finland plan on coming!
I'm sure it's going to be a great event :)

46. awesome, it's so great to see you're all planning on coming ! Can't wait for meeting you all, talking about dolls with new people and spending time watching my money disappearing lol

47. Sounds good... I'd so like to go there :) Who knows, maybe I will as well xD
Some owners from Hungary plans to~

48. Koffeey - I hope you'll be able to! :D
I have a friend in Hungary who sadly won't be able to make the trip as she's already coming to Paris for Japan Expo in July :(
I'm glad to know other people from the Hungarian doll community might be coming! :D

Xaya, Lunasa - yay, same with Finnish owners! XD

I'm so happy that we seem to reach our goal of making this event a true, big, international BJD convention!! :aheartbea

49. Hi!

Ldoll contest rules are up on the news thread! :D
// click here //

The contests which will take place:
• "Just Like The Movies" Customization Contest (sponsored by Peak's Woods)

[*]"Lust" Customization Contest

[*]"Purity" Photo Contest

[*]"Best sales table" Contest

And of course... the lottery!

The first prize for the Peak's Woods contest is a limited SD Peak's Woods doll!
First prize for "Lust" contest and the photo contest are also full-set SD dolls *3*

Anyone planning on taking part in the contests?
:chocoberry

50. I'd love to participate in at least one of these contests :D.
Now I just hope to find a good idea and lots of time for the preparations ;)

51. Sharkyra - Ohh now you have me wonder what doll you will participate with :P

We've already been asked quite a few questions concerning the contests, and therefore we thought it might be useful to compile our answers in a FAQ.

You will find this "Contest FAQ" at the Ldoll Forum here: ♠ ► Contest FAQ ◄ ♠

If you have any other questions, do not hesitate! :)

We are looking forward to getting all your cool entries! *3*

:chocoberry

52. An update to the Contest FAQ, which I thought was worth mentioning here.
Link: http://ldollfestival.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=73

General Questions:
#4: Do candidates have to sew their doll's outfit for the customization contests?

The customization contests are not sewing contests!

It is not mandatory that candidates make their doll's outfit.
Candidates will be judged on how well they combine the elements used to customize their doll and how well it sticks to the contest theme.

Those elements may be crafted by the candidates, borrowed, bought, etc. However, candidates must combine them by themselves.

:truffle

53. I really want to come but have no money to get my passport re-done :/

Maybe next time ^^

54. Ah, that's too bad é__è
I hope you'll be able to travel for the next edition then! *hugs*

55. Awesome! I really want to come if possible! I've already planned everything only thing is I don't get how to buy the tickets. I went to the site when I saw it up. When I went to tickets it said pre-sales started in June so yay I waited for presales. June's come and gone and I still haven't understood how to get tickets *_* umm... help? Sorry I suck.

56. Don't worry!
You couldn't possibly find the pre-sales because they haven't started yet XD
I really need to tell our webmistress to change that page because you're not the first one to get confused about the dates ^^;;;

But you'll get your answer very soon! :D
The organizers are almost finished building the pre-sales page and they should make a proper announcement in the coming days with all the explanations on how to purchase the tickets :)

It will also be possible to purchase them at the convention, but I advise everyone to get pre-sales, because only pre-sale tickets give access to the lottery.

Stay tuned for that! :)

57. Thank you so much! I was hoping to finalize the hotel and flight booking before I bought the tickets so I was getting kind of scared that I'd already missed the pre-sale. Hehe, thanks again! I'll definitely be buying pre-sales if I can. I don't have much luck but I don't want to get there to find all the tickets have been sold out! ;)

Again thank you so much!

58. There you have your answer Althy! :D

Pre-sale tickets are available as of today!!!!!

Here is the link for the English page: PRE-SALE TICKETS :aheartbea

Pre-sale tickets entitle you to :
- Reduced entry fee (9€ for one day, vs 10€ at the desk - 16€ for two days, vs 20€ at the desk)
- Faster entry (pre-sale ticket holders enter a half hour earlier than other attendees)
- One free raffle ticket per purchased pre-sale ticket, for the lottery which will take place on the Sunday.

/// Be aware that only pre-sale ticket holders get a free lottery ticket. Other visitors will have to buy theirs. ///

I hope you all saw as well the dolls that Peak's Woods have made for Ldoll Festival *3*

Everyone, have an awesome summer and start saving for this big event! :D
:chocoberry

59. It's looking like I may not be able to come, the travel costs are a bit much for my tiny budget :(
Haven't given up yet though, trying to talk my family into not getting me anything for my birthday and instead helping fund this.
Really hope I do make it so I can meet everyone :)

60. Ah, I'm sorry the travel costs may keep you from coming >__<

Be sure to check the lowcost company EasyJet which flies in to Lyon.
I travel a couple of times a year to England and I always use it now. Not because it's the best service but simply because I can't find anything cheaper... I know they fly from Edimburgh, but I don't think they have regular flights from there...

If you could travel to a city which has lowcost flights to Lyon (the best connected being the London airports predictably) for a reasonable price (maybe by train?), then the price for round-trip tickets to Lyon could be much cheaper.

For instead, with Easyjet from Stansted airport, I'm seeing a flight on Saturday 9th October for £25 and a returning flight on Monday 11th for £21.

That's just a thought :)
Note that I don't have any EasyJet stock auctions XDDD

I hope you can get some more funds to travel!! ^^
