LatiDoll Yellow discussion part 5

I decided I wanted to send my Pirate Lea off to get customized, but after I removed her stock faceup I got the itch to try out a Lati faceup myself. This was my first time doing a faceup so tiny and painting eyebrows, hehe! She's not 100% perfect, but I really like how she turned out! I wanted her to be sweet and sort of fantasy/fairy like.. what do you think ?

Hi all. I haven't taken any new photos this weekend. I didn't have the time. Too much else is going on. I may not be keeping my crazy overnight job long, so I may have more time in the future anyways.

For face ups, add colour using crushed soft pastels for eyeshadow or blush, and seal with MSC: thats the easiest option I think

I only recently started on my lati obsession. I have just 3 so far: 2 from MP and 1 directly from Lati. Love them!
I do have a question...Do most of you use size 12 or 14 eyes?

 

@karenleigh - I prefer 12mm, myself. I think it's fairly evenly split between 12-14mm preferences around here.

 

I depend on the doll too - a couple of my girls look perfect with their 14mm default eyes, but my two basic girls look completely wrong in them. I think because they all have different eye socket shapes and sizes some can look a bit odd with 14mm eyes, but others really suit them.

 

Hi I am new to this thread, I really want to order a basic Kuroo but the shipping wait scares me. I heard Lati improved a little now, is that true?

 

@Rio99 - They're not perfect, but they've definitely improved their wait times tremendously - FL's are longer now. They've been pretty good about sticking to 30 bus. days for basics and 60 for limiteds/specials - and if they're late, you'll be credited 20% of your purchase in points to use towards a future purchase.

 

That's good to know. Lati's wait time has always kept me from ordering direct from them. I'm surprised to hear FL is now guilty of long waits. Oh well, both companies turn out fantastic dolls.

I use 14mm on my OE girls and 12mm on my mystics... the colours show up better I feel... But everyone has different preferences.


sighhh, I guess I won;t have a pukifee/lati hybrid vampire since I swapped ruki's head onto my PKF body... and whomever mentioned about the gap being too big.. well you're right.. It was way too big Her head bobbled a lot. It's a shame!
Its weird, I've actually gotten quite used to her having two completely different skin-tones !
Plus I changed her eyes on monday to some very ethereal looking ones, and it looks gorgeous with the dark hues of purple in her faceup... since the eyes are very very light :P

Got my giraffe set today! ^___^ They're my favorite animals, so I couldn't pass this up. I wanted to give this outfit to my incoming Christmas Lea, but I thought I'd give it a try on Marin since I have it on hand and Xmas Lea's still in transit :P

as for eyes, i like 14mm on my Miel's and Leas, Benny and definitely Lamis. My Lumi has 14s too i HAVE to use 12s on my Laches and Momo (small eyes) and actually have 12s on one Lea (i think they're 12s--a different eye vendor than i usually use), and i use 12s on my mystics of course. but my preference is toward 14mms. IMO, they make the dolls look more innocent and child-like

so, the meetup on Sunday was fun. it was pretty nice to meet other adult collectors that "get it" LOL and awesome-er to find out that there will be a dolly presentation full of DoAers and this year's Otakon!!

 

maybe it depends on the order though, my two recent FL orders were bang on schedule!

Thanks, i was thinking it would be nice for people to be able to compare them. I love them both for different reasons, fairy lea is more ethereal but very beautiful whereas elf lea is very striking. If i had to only keep one it would probably be the elf version, but only really becuase my greatest preference is for strong faceups, i would still be sad to let fairy lea go

By the way, Am I the only one who feels kind of sorry for new dolls with limited faceups.. that go on to receive aweful DIY faceups from their owners and then look to rehome them ?
Seriously, I almost want to go rescue all of them and slowly pay for them to have new faceups so that they may be of a better deserving value for the time and love that is spent on them!

YES! I always hate it when I find someone with a limited doll with a horrible redone faceup. I mean what's the point? They might as well buy a blank basic right? It'd be cheaper. What's even worse is when they wipe the faceup of a limited where the faceup is the only thing that makes it different (as in no elf ears, no tan skin, nada). Then later on you see them being rehomed and the asking price is nearly the same or higher than the original price from Lati!

And more often than not its one of the molds that wasn't ordered as much so that means there are even fewer of the original ones out there to begin with

Sorry, that's just my little rant on it I've seen one too many DIY gone wrong on limiteds on Flickr lately while browsing. I know everyone has the right to do what they want on their doll but its especially frustrating when it's on a limited that I want

 

It's actually SUNNY outside today, and I'm hoping that holds up for a few more hours so I can get decent pictures of my girls! Maybe I'll even take them outside and weird out the neighbors. Hoping that my en-route wig and eyes arrive soon so I can get a complete photo of all girls. Their bloomers & socks (from the lovely Joni!) should arrive soon, so I won't have to worry about them flashing anyone while in their cute little dresses, haha.

Still need to get them more shoes - they have a few pairs, but with five Lati girls, is there really such a thing as enough?

So after all of that ramble, a question: What are your favorite LY shoes, guys? I mean specific pairs, any brand, from whatever retailer you prefer. I adore RRG shoes (I swear, they're cute enough to collect on their own!) but I'm not sure which I should order when I round up more funds. I know I definitely need some of their strappy-sneaker type shoes, but I can't make up my mind beyond that. The girls currently have: Leopard Pattern MJs - Pink Stripe Knot MJs - Brown Slip-On - Purple MJs, plus a pair of Lati-made shoes that I'm not too keen on for some reason.

 

I love the sandals & loafers from Myownlittleworld as she has a wonderful selection of colors & they fit perfect. She also ships
immediately & I have my items in 3 days.
I also have purchased from RRG, the Riley shoes & they also fit wonderful but there is a 3 week wait for them to arrive.

It doesn't bother me to see DIY limited dolls for sale. If I wanted a limited doll that had its faceup wiped & now had a DIY faceup, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase that doll if I could remove that faceup & the resin wouldn't be stained or damaged.
I would want the doll to come with original eyes, laches, & COA. Outfits & wigs are not important to me.
There is also the price of the doll to consider. Also, has the doll been modified in any way?
Faceups can be fixed, if not by yourself then by someone who specializes in faceups. Damage to the resin is another thing, what do you do if Elf ears have been sanded down? Unlike a faceup, this can't be fixed.

Weather here today is dark & gloomy, rain on the way, looks like the Space Shuttle brought it home, lol.

 

I'm not for or against DIY face-ups but wow, I've seen some pretty horrific ones lately too! I kinda feel bad for those dollies! Also, I wouldn't buy a limited doll who's face-up has been removed or modified. It's just not my thing.

Hoping to spend some time with my resin family this weekend - it's been ages. I did open their drawer up the other day to put something away and they were all staring up at me with sad little faces. A new family member is on their way home right now so I better pay some attention to the ones already here before they feel completely neglected.

I would never attempt to give any Lati a faceup myself (not where my skills lie!) but if I had a pirate I would be tempted to get a new faceup. I wish Lati would release more tans with softer faceups, well more dolls in general with softer faceups. While I love the strong faceups in others photographs they don't work for me when owning one.

Although that's probably contradicting myself - I wish my SoaF Bayer had a touch more definition in her lips and my incoming bebe has got rather a strong look!

 

Honeythrope, funny you mentioned giving a pirate a new face up if you had one, I'm in the process of giving my vamp Miel
a new face up. Removing the dark makeup was a chore but I did it! Right now he has been sprayed with sealer 3 times and has new lighter rose blush on his cheeks and chin. I am taking my time with his new face up. The magnifying glass lamp I bought really helps!
I love your elf Bayer a lot and wish I would have bought her. Hopefully Lati will make her again, and elf Kuroo, in the future.

 

i know what you mean. i love the softer faceups of the fairies, but something about Bayer just didn't do it for me in person i HATED her eyebrows. i wiped them and redid her lips, too, in hopes i would love her more. but she just wasn't quite as cute as the White size. fortunately, somebody else in the dolly world was happy to adopt her

i agree Matera. some of the limited faceups aren't that great. but i may have wanted a tan doll or a doll with elf-ears, and so then a new faceup still makes a special doll. though it does seem a waste of the buyer's money to re-do a limited faceup on a normal-skin, human doll. but on mystics etc, i don't see an issue

gosh, many of my limiteds actually do have re-done faceups! LOL (some i bought an extra head with the default just to have ). but ONLY limiteds that are either tan or elf-eared/vampire eared, or have vampire teeth or mystic eyes. because they are still limited no matter what their faceup

I actually love the faceup on my tan mystic vampire Miel but I did receive him 9 months after ordering & the faceups of the later
vampires were so much better than the first ones that were sent out. My tan oe vampire Miel had an awful faceup, black blush on cheeks, dark under his eyes & his teeth weren't painted right. I received them 7 months apart & they are like day & night in the faceups!
Hey, has anybody gotten any shipping notices since Lati came back from vacation? I am hoping that my basic Kuroo ships soon.

 

Matera: I just ordered a basic Kuroo too. I am still on the confirming order status. How long will they confirm my order?

 

It took Lati almost 3 days to confirm my order but once I asked them on q/a & put it in the title they confirmed almost right away.
Sometimes they need a gentle push to get the ball rolling, lol. Rio99, did you order the basic default faceup, special faceup or a funfun package faceup? Ordered the sad funfun package faceup because I thought it would look cute on Kuroo.

 

There's a fun fun package face-up? I have so much to learn! I only got the basic one. Thanks for letting me know, I will use my poking stick soon if I don't hear from them today.

 

Oh I may have seem mean in my rant. I don't really mind DIY on Latis since there are quite a few limiteds where the faceup wasn't that great to begin with. Its just frustrating sometimes when I see a doll with a particularly bad one and when the original faceup was beautiful!

I somehow can't bring myself to get my limiteds redone though Though I really feel like I could love my Lami and Lumi vampires more if they had better faceups...

On another note, I just bought a Christmas Sleeping Byrul! I don't know what possessed me, but the price was good and Byrul has been a mold I've been looking at... Oh well, I guess that's another dolly to join the family

i see what you mean Matera. the overall concept of the Miel faceups was awesome. but then my tan mystic came with that horrible black everywhere and bad blushing. but my NS open-eye Miel i adopted had a great faceup! even on my OE tan Miel that Andreja did, i asked for something similar to the original (oh, and hehe, couldn't help with the TB reference when my fairies arrived )

 

Rio99, the funfun package faceups are new & not a lot of people know about them. You can see them by clicking on the funfun
package link then click on the photo & below the 3 different faceups will come up. I've seen a basic Kuroo recently on flickr that has the default faceup & its lovely. I just love sad faced dolls so I opted to go for the sad face again, my basic Bayer has it & its adorable.
Idlehen, you couldn't be mean if you tried, just voicing your opinion & there's nothing wrong with doing that.
I thought long & hard about wiping my Miel's faceup, got sick to the stomach right after I did it but I'm ok with it now.
Now if I get the faceup right I will be even more ok, lol. I'm pretty confident that it will come out ok & what I'm looking for,
it will be much better than the original & I'm keeping him a vampire.
I have a ws mystic Lumi vampire & love her faceup a lot, I think the tans weren't as nice as prior vampires. Just look at Lazysunbather's vampire Miel, that doll is a beauty & Lati did an excellent faceup! Wish they all were like that one.
Congrats on getting a sleeping Byurl, if I didn't already have one I would have snatched that one up fast!

Added: Costleyhobby, your vampire Miel has a beautiful new faceup, I really love it & I hope mine comes out as good as yours. I really loved your Elf Bayer & I almost bought her but earlier today I booked a mini vacation for next weekend to Disneyworld so I couldn't spend more money on dolls. I'm not surprised that she sold pretty fast.

 

I'm a believer of "if it's your doll do whatever the heck you wanna do with it!" Especially if it helps you bond more with her! Though yeah I think it'd be a little silly to wipe off a Limited's faceup that is basically the same exact doll as a Basic underneath her makeup. And to not think that by doing so you're probably taking value away should you want to resell later.

I customized my Pirate Lea because I just couldn't get over the eyebrows, didn't really match up with her personality I wanted her to have, but I LOVE the tan babies so I customized her myself. She's not perfect but I love her a thousand times more, and she's definitely never going anywhere!

The weather in southern Ontario is horrid right now, too hot hazy and humid. Stayed home sick yesterday in the sweltering heat with the pets. Gerbils, hedgie and 3 cats in the kitchen with me and the only a/c unit all day. Look who arrived in the midst of the heat though! Little ZARA!!



Figures both her and Kelly have gameboys and are still playing them together as we speak.

Fingers crossed for a break in the temp for all, it was apparently 120 here yesterday with the humidex... and that is just NOT what we are used to at all. I moved the a/c to my bedroom last night and have left everyone in there when I crawled into work today.

Still not feeling very good, just want to stick it out for 4 or 5 hours to get some things wrapped up then I'll go back and pray my apt didn't burn down. Does anyone else have stupid fears like that for no reason about appliances? I didn't grow up with A/C so they freak me out. I set it at 85 hahah.
