I, of wise purchase decisions, decided to get one of the in-stock Agaves that Black Cherry Dolls had up for sale a few weeks ago. It was a rush trying to put in an order - especially since I was at a fiber fest with spotty-at-best wifi! I initially went for one of the Milk Chocolate ones, but they sold out as I was trying to order, so I got one in Normal instead. (The wonderful part about already being at a fiber fest was I picked up some white Teeswater locks for her wig while I was there. Can't beat that for looking through the options!) She got in yesterday, on September 30th. With her unboxing, my doll collection is - hopefully, supposedly - complete. At least until I move into a bigger place, if I can do that. I'll be moving on to getting everyone plentiful wardrobe options. And shoes. Never enough shoes, I swear. On to the pictures! The box itself is really cute - my previous Black Cherry doll, a Zeri, came to me unstrung directly from Harucasting, so I missed out on the actual box. Naturally, I required Box Inspection Assistance. Apparently Black Cherry Dolls does the foam insert style - I appreciate how safe it keeps the dolls, but I also like having an empty box to fill with things like clothes. Number 5!!! So, they send the faceplate not on the doll, but in one of the cutout cubbies. My Zeri's face likes to get knocked off with little provocation, so I don't blame them, but it was quite something seeing the faceless body sitting there. Though those hips give me hell when I try to sew, I do love holding these guys. They've got a nice weight and are a perfect handful of doll. I do think she's strung better than my Zeri, but I've only restrung a couple times now so even though I followed their tutorial, I'm sure they know their stuff way beyond what I do. Still so puzzled by the knee joints, though. They're effectively double-jointed, but instead of a peanut joint, the kneecap is a separate "cup" that slots into the thigh and covers the lower leg, which has its own joint, as you can see in the photos. Close-up of the face. I love her eyes and mouth; there's something about her that looks deep in thought. After her unboxing, I put her in some overalls for a quick "don't be completely naked" outfit and put her in the cabinet with the others. I'm hoping to start work on her wig this weekend, and faceup within a week or two. I think the sealant I use is supposed to handle the cold better than MSC, but I don't want to push it off too much. The tough part will be her eyes - I have a spare pair of 10mms, but what will fit her best...? Her name is Fiadh; in the dolls' group of characters, she's not related to anyone, but she's staying with Ara and Suha (the Zeri)'s immediate family to learn from them and strengthen alliances. She looks calm, quiet, and almost sullen, but she's wild at heart.
I like the look of those knees very much! Much smoother looking under clothing than other designs, I imagine. Also, why didn't I think of that? You use the dolls box to store their clothes! But of course! Then one needn't fuss about what fits whom.
They're very cute but oh man, they love twisting every which way. I tried using kips on my Zeri but they don't seem to help a whole ton; another kind of sueding would probably do them a lot of good on that front, though.
