Hi, I’ve been having a problem with finding perfect lashes for my msd sized girls. I actually found ones that I liked very much, but now they aren’t available anymore, so I really need some recommendations. Where do you guys buy lashes for msd dolls, and what kind of lashes you like to use on them?
I use normal human false lashes (the ones that come in smaller bunches) on all sizes of my dolls. For 1/4 or MSD, I just poke the lashes further into the head so they look shorter. Fake lashes that are made for the lower lashline are a bit shorter and thinner and great for dolls as well.
I also use human-meant faux eyelashes. I just trim them to the width of the eye opening; then glue them further back into the eye-well. I use them on dolls as small as 28cm in height. Here's my Myou Bettina mature tiny, wearing some human lashes, I just cut the width. I struggle to glue them in perfectly, but I just learned by trial and error, that if you cut them into even shorter pieces (width-wise), you have a bit more control on how long you want the inner-corner-of-the-eye-lashes to be, and how long you want the outer comer ones to be, without all the struggle! I've been using human lashes since the beginning of the dark ages. I purchased my first hybrid of this kind from Volks, and I used their lashes first, but I can't say I found doll meant lashes any more useful than human ones. I kind of prefer the human ones, because you can find extremely inexpensive ones in drugstores here in the USA, and even multiple pairs for under 2USD at the Dollar Tree. I'm stingy when it comes to lashes. I do reuse them as often as possible, but I find them too fragile to be spending more than a few bucks on them. I wouldn't recommend trimming them lengthwise, unless you have a super sharp X-acto knife and know what you're doing. I have attempted trimming the length out of necessity, but they don't usually look that great. This is a Fairyland Chic Line Rou, who is 41cm tall, but has tinier eye-openings and overall eye-size than the doll above (kind of an odd-sized doll; a bit short for a mini-sized doll, a bit too tall for tiny-sized doll). I trimmed the lashes in length and width for the closed eyed face plate, but they kind of look terrible. I'm stuck with them, however, because I am not a fan of bald-eyed looking dolls. DX I need to readjust these inside his wells, because they cast weird shadows on his eyes, but they are all human-sized faux-lashes, trimmed to width. (: Hope that's helpful, and good luck! (:
So if you head to your local retail establishment where cosmetics are sold, or if you peruse online, there are individual lashes for sale in varying sizes. I'm talking 2-3 hairs in a teeny tiny clump. They are a bit fiddly to put on, but you have a ton of flexibility in length and amount of lashes you apply. Something like these: imPRESS Falsies Long Lasting Holiday Lashes - Demi Bold A tip I saw and now use religiously is to apply a layer of white glue (Elmer's) directly to the doll's eyelid, and then wait until it gets tacky but not dry. (This takes about 5 minutes and is agonizing for squirrel brain.) Once the glue is tacky, dab a little on the end of the lashes, and they'll stay in place when you apply. Tweezers highly recommended - the kind that end in a sharp point like these: ESD Safe Tweezer Set S-25214 - ULINE But you can find them much cheaper.
I would also like to know where to find doll sized eyelashes- I find the human ones look too chunky and disproportional. I got a pair of lovely doll-sized eyelashes with a head and I have no idea where they came from!!
I have a mix of human size and doll specific lashes. For human scale ones, I look for thin bands and lashes with polished tips so they don't look too chunky and out of scale. I've had luck finding lashes like this at my local Daiso. When applying them, I will sometimes cut them into smaller segments if the eye openings are very small. I also stack lashes on top of one another if I want them fuller, usually just at the outer corners. I always do the gluing method mentioned above as that's how I always did lashes on myself - sticking two tacky surfaces together makes a tighter faster bond. I apply a thin coat of white glue to the inside of the socket, use a toothpick to get a good bead of glue along the lash edge, wait for them to both get tacky and use a pair of bent tip tweezers to apply. I've bought doll lashes from the following: Luts Volks (they usually have more?) Dollmore Nomyens (etsy shop) if I think of any other places I've bought from that are still around I'll update my post~
