Lacing...lace? Or whatever it's called?

Jul 25, 2005

    1. I am so incompetant about sewing terminology. xD I'm looking for the kind of lace that has small loops in it, which you would use to lace ribbon through... anyone know where to find it?

Perhaps Hangcock or something? Or should I get it online?

Thanks, I just didn't know what to call it...

    2. I think it is called Beading Lace.

    3. I found some at jo ann fabrics in the frilly lace and ribbon section. You should be able to find it at any fabric store though. Just ask someone at the store and let them know exactly what you're looking for. ^_^ They're usually happy to help and extactic a person under 60 (as I assume you are) is looking for sewing supplies!

    4. Alrighty. :D I've also heard it called 'eyelet lace'... Sewing things are so confusing *_*

    5. Not all eyelet lace is beading lace nor all beading lace is eyelet lace.
Though I guess you could try to thread ribbon through the eyelets but it might not lay right and look funny.
Oh I know. Go to www.cheeptrims.com and put in the terms in the search and you can see the difference and get familiar with terms for other types of trimmings. :)

    6. They also call it 'insertion lace'. Run a search for that on eBay and you'll generally come up with quite a bit of lovely lace you can use. ^_^ I'd recommend going for more solid looking lace, rather than the nylon lace (which has the possibility of breaking easily).

    7. Ain't that the truth! Every time I go into Hancock Fabrics (and I'm there quite often) I get some of the oddest looks from the little old ladies shopping there. *laughs*

Not that I mind though. I'm pretty used to the odd stares.

    8. Lace w/ 1 scalloped edge and 1 straight edge is called "edging"
      2 straight edges is "insertion"
      2 scalloped edges is "galloon"
if you can run ribbon in and out it is "beading".
Some beading is an insertion; some is a galloon. beading edging is not very common.

Eyelet is "lace" that is made of fabric that has embroidered holes and scallops
There are lots of kinds of thread laces. Most common is "Val" or Valenciennes. "Bridal" lace w/ a heavy thread around each flower is Alençon.

Actually, just go look at this link if you want to get totally overwhelmed :?
