Kyoto Dolpa 6 (March 22, 2009)

Jan 15, 2009

    1. Scissorhand, I don't see the smaller version of the boy Yo, what do you mean?

I love the way that Ayanami Rei looks with the painted eyes. She actually looks like Rei this time. Is she for sale or is it just the outfit?

It's a pity the Lucky Star uniforms are only for DD, they would be so cute in SD!

    2. omg! I am in Osaka then! YAY I can go there, but I have no idea how it all works..
      Please someone help me.. :s

I love the YoSD's how can you buy them there.. damn I am such a noob!

    3. Oh good grief. I went back and looked again and realized that what I was looking at was the closeup of the Yos but there was an inset photo of the Yo outfits on top of the closeups. I do apologize. I am a middle aged woman with bad eyesight.

You may all point and laugh. :D

    4. I'm going too! :)

There is a lot of info on attending a Dolpa on DoA but just to give a fast overview:

Generally around 7000-20,000 people (maybe more!) attend a Dolpa so they can't fit all those people at Sato. The Kyoto Hometown Dolpa is being held at the Pulse Plaza. The nearest station is Takeda which is off one of the subway lines in Kyoto.

If you want a LE item you must have a guidebook before the date of the Dolpa. They're on sale at any Volks branch or can be ordered on-line.

Volks has used several different methods for the LE lottery and there is no telling which method they're going to use at this event.

      Method 1 is:

When you arrive at Pulse there are 3 lines, one for Sumika items, one for the Dealer's Room and one for LE dolls. You must pick a line to wait in and the Volks staff will only let you wait in a line if you have your guide. For the LE line you wait until the lottery starts and then you draw a # telling you your actual place in line and then go to that space. I believe they only let you draw #s until 9 am with that method. People will come to start lining up REALLY early I know in Tokyo they often get there around 6 am.

      Method 2 is:

When you arrive at Pulse you immediately draw a lottery #. if you want to try for a LE doll, then you line up based on your lottery # otherwise you join a general line for the Dealer's room and Sumika Items. I personally hate this method since if your first choice is a Sumika or Dealer's Room item you're at a huge disadvantage. Again you must have your guide ahead of time or you can not draw a lottery #. Again people get there very early.

It is a lottery so there are no guarantees even if you are there you will get a good # It can be very exhausting but it can also be really exciting if you get your doll at the actual event!

      Good luck!

    5. ohh oke thank you soo much!!

one the page where you can order the guide book they write this:
"we recommend you to buy this guidebook(entree fee included) at the entrance since we cannot grantee the delivery time"

but then I won't be able to enter the loterij right?

could the books get sold out? if not then I probably can try to get the book in osaka befor the event.

    6. If you want to enter the lottery, you have to buy the guidebook before the event because when they sell the guidebook at the event it's after the lottery line has started. It's only sold when they open the Dolpa to the general public.

I do recommend buying the book beforehand if you can, but sometimes even then it may sell out in the stores if you look right before the event. If someone is nice enough to buy it for you, and you pay them back, you could do it that way but yes, if you want to enter the lottery you need the guidebook before the event.

    7. ohw oke, thnx..

Maybe I should order it online then anyway, because I don't know anyone willing to go to a volks store for me in Osaka :p

For just the dealerroom, I guess no other YoSD's will be sold there right?

    8. The dealer room is for hand-made goods being sold by individual non-Volks seamstresses/craftsmen. There are no dolls sold there, so no, the only Yos will be the limiteds and, while very unlikely, one-offs.

    9. aha oke thnx!

    10. No problem, I hope you have a great time and feel free to ask any questions because there are lots of people that can help. :)

    11. thnx again lol! yeah this is my 3th time in Japan and now there finaly is also a dolpa when I am there :D yeah I am so happy that this exists!

    12. She's for sale, but it's the 1/6 Dollfie version, not DD or anything.

    13. How long are you going to be in Japan before the event? A lot depends on how many Volks branches you can try as well. (Kansai isn't as good as Tokyo for # of stores, but it is not so expensive or hard to get from Osaka to Kobe to check out that store as well.) I've personally never seen the guide sell out but it might vary by branch and some might stop carrying in advance of the date. I know for other events the guides stop being sold a week before the event.

But yeah, you must have the guide when you go to line up. In the case of the lottery, they stamp the back of the book to show you've already drawn a lottery # so you can't just get back in line and try to get a better one. I might have an old guide I can scan.

I tend to try to plan my trips to Japan so I can attend events I want to go to. It makes trips much more fun.

    14. Actually, according to the description, she's a School B head. :sweat

    15. Lots of DD items for this Dollpa!!

Lucky Star sailor fuku sets blue and red :

      Tenshi no Koromo dresses:
Doki Doki Live Debut set & Band Girl Holiday set
      [IMG]

      Underwear sets:

New Animetic eyes type I :
      Finally some new color choices!
Also, all eyes from type A to I will be available in 24mm as well.

All of these seems DD size (too small to actually read what it says...) Notice how Volks used a lot of their MDD heads on DD bodies for these promo pics? Pretty cute. Looks like there is nothing for the DDdy this time around. Mmmm I'm looking forward to this stuff!!

    16. thanks chibiusa, the lucky star sets look really cute! do they come with the shoes as well?

    17. The Lucky Star sets do not come with the shoes.

    18. I arrive the 18th, but I orderd the book online yesterday and today I already got a email that it is shipped, so I guess I get it in time!
ah oke, but with the loterij you can try out for more then 1 doll, since I like both the girl and the boy yosd.
ah that is cool, I am with my BF so we have to go when he can take days of from work.. also I am worried that he will get terible bored at the event lol, but he could always go outside and explore around there..
is it allowed to take pictures inside?

      thnx!

    19. If you arrive the 22nd, are you arriving very early in the morning? To get to the event, you can use this website to find the quickest train route:

      http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi

As for pictures, you can take pictures but it is nice to ask. No offense to other people who don't, but I find it very rude. So, if you say "Picture OK-deska?" then hold up your camera at the individual booths they generally nod or say "Hai" then go ahead. Sometimes, they will even hold up a background for you. You can also take pictures of the limiteds on display, the One-offs and the other display dolls.

I have to say, though, that there isn't much to "explore" outside the venue. It's not very touristy with regards to temples and seems very urbanized from what I recall.

    20. sorry I ment the 18th lol...
I emailed voks and they said you should join the line befor 9:45, But I try to be there around 8u.

oke, I always ask befor I take a pic ^^

hmzz ok, well then he has to enjoy him selve in the venue..

    21. You and your boyfriend will each need your own admission as well. ^^; They won't let him in without one and I'm not even sure if they would let him wait in line with you without one. However on the bright side that second book means a chance to draw a second lottery #.

You can buy 1 of each type of doll (assuming everything is available which is a huge assumption!) So if you say drew #20, you could buy Irvin, Kaelin, Remi, Colin, and the new DD/MDD. Volks never says how many of each doll is available and most dolls have pre-orders as well but you will need a Japanese mailing addy to pre-order. Personally, if you draw a # over 1500 your chances of getting a doll are pretty slim unless you can do a pre-order. If you draw above 2000 I would pretty much give up hope, I don't know of anyone who drew 2000+ and got a doll at a Dolpa.

Personally, I would go a lot earlier than 8 am. (And I am planning to) If they're using a method where everyone draws a # there will be a lot of people in front of you should you draw an awful # where there is no chance of getting a LE. (Like 5000 which is what I drew last GW.)

If you and your boyfriend have cell phones that work in Japan he could go sightseeing, but there is nothing at the same subway station as Pulse Plaza. However not so far away is Todai-ji.

A Dolpa is really an all day event. There are generally around 300+ dealers.

    22. ofcourse I have also orderd a book for him ;)

yeah both our phones work in Japan and last time we also somethimes spit up, me going to a meet up he sightseeing LOL.

About the pre-order, I do have a Japanese friend but she lives in Tokyo, could she pre-order for me or does she still need to pick up the item her selve then?

      thnx for all the help.

    23. As long as you know her mailing addy and she is willing to accept the package for you, she does not need to be physically at the Dolpa. Not all Dolpa dolls have pre-orders but I think all the Yos in the past have, except maybe HinaIchigo. The # of pre-orders is limited so again, if you draw a # like 5000, which can happen, just give up hope, spending hours standing in line when there is no hope really sucks and it might be hours. In 2007, my husband drew a good #, 421 and it took over an hour after Dolpa started for him to be able to pay!

If you are lucky enough to get a doll or pre-order slip, you will just need to pay for the doll and fill out her mailing addy for Volks to deliver the doll to her.

If you don't mind splitting up, there is a lot of sightseeing he can do in Kyoto near the station. I've walked from the station to Todai-ji, Kiyomizu-dera and Sanjusangendo. All 3 are really interesting and could easily keep him entertained.

    24. My train of thoughts while looking through the thread:
Lucky star outfits?! The Doki Doki debut?! Is that a reference to Escalayer and her Doki Doki meter? I'm so happy I finally get to buy those cute DD outfits!

Seriously though, those are some cute outfits :)

    25. Lucky Star cosplays FTW, although the "Konata"-like model for the summer version creeps me out. :sweat

This may be a silly question, but do they always have an online lottery for the limited DD and MDD for this kind of event or not?

    26. Maybe you mean To-ji? Todai-ji is in Nara. :sweat

I usually aim to get to the Dolpa location by 7:30. It's usually fine to take photos, but if you are taking photos of dealers' goods or someone else's dolls, you MUST ask first. Not asking is a violation of Dolpa guidelines.

    27. Yeah, that is the one I meant. :sweat The one right near the station. It's really interesting.

Though technically he could go to Nara since it's only about 45 minutes from Kyoto :P

    28. I could just be completely off my rocker with this, but does anyone else think that Colin and Remy have the same face but slightly different eye shapes?

It's bothered me since they came out since there was something that looked off between them and I can't put my finger on it.

Remy is the left half of the face, Colin is the right.

I'm definitely not a photoshop wizard, but Colin's eyes just look like they are open more to me no matter how I look at them.

    29. I keep thinking that the Remi has a more pronounced upper lip and more pursed mouth than Colin. I can't tell if it is the face-ups or an actual difference. and I have been wondering about the eyes also. Colin's eyes appear wider to me. - Barb

    30. volks loves to use the same head molds. So they are the same head mold.. the yos.

what could be tricking is the angle, lighting, and the faceup

    31. Remi's face looks sliiiiiightly more tilted up in that comparison.
You'd be surprised what a difference a tiny change in angle makes.
And when you factor in hair, face-up, etc., it only makes them look more different from one another.

But yes, as per tradition, the Yo's have always been released as boy and girl twins of the same head.
The exceptions being Hinaichigo and the Yo remakes of standards of course...

    32. I am quite aware of the fact that Yo headmolds are usually the same for boy and girl. I've owned quite a few of them from various releases. At first I thought it was just a difference in faceup that made me think Colin was adorable and Remi had some serious problems, but their noses, mouths, and chins line up perfectly and the eyes still look off.

      *shrugs*

    33. I'm sure they're the same mold. If you don't think faceup and angle make a difference, look at the discussion thread for Soom's Glot and Glati or Volks' Rose and Bianka, they're both pairs of the same mold but people were sure that they were different, just due to faceups and photo angles and the like! It's already been mentioned, but every single release of original YoSDs (i.e. not YO versions of larger dolls or character dolls) has had a boy and girl with the same head mold, I doubt they'd change this tactic, especially with such a very minor difference! :)

    34. I have been thinking the same thing. We all know they love to use the same head molds for the twins and it is obvious it is the same mold, but that doesn't mean the couldn't have opened the eyes a bit more on one head. Not probable, but possible.

    35. I personally just think it's a matter of angles playing tricks on the eyes, but I can definitely see what you're saying.

    36. Here's a cute pic of Remi I found on volks web site.

It looks like she is unaware of the picture being taken. She looks so cute here. I hope it is ok to post it here.

      Briar

    37. I'd love to see them blank, but that will have to wait, hehe.

Anyhoo, I am so going to try for Colin. He's adorable and I have evil plans for him. Or not so evil, since for once, I am planning on owning a Yo who is not a sociopath. :sweat

    38. Aww I wasn't sure I liked her at first but Remi is really starting to grow on me. And my tax return should be coming any day now :doh Will have to think about it :)

    39. I am going for Kaelin and Colin....

    40. Okay I've been trying to resist but I think I'm going to have to try for a Colin, just too cute *squee* I would love to get Kaelin's outfit lol! But I think my Irvin would kill me if I tried to bring home Kaelin since my Irvin already has a twin brother ^^;; Triplets might be too much even for me :sweat

    41. Ok, I've been playing around with translating things again; brace yourself!

Remi & Colin (I think this is told from Colin's POV):
When spring comes along, it's full of fun things! Baby birds & butterflies, & just like the flowers, Remi's fond feelings start to bloom as well.

From this evening on, we two will set up outside, impatiently waiting for spring to come!

From the bottom of my little hat, I welcome you!

    42. Pretty good, but the last line reads to me "I'll put on my favorite hat and wait to greet you/for your greeting."

      They're very cute. :)

*edit* Volks always uses such funky/flowery Japanese *laughs*

    43. I'm gonna try to nab some of the MSD/SDC outfits. The one modeled on SDC Renee would be a nice addition to my girls' waredrobe. =3

    44. You know, that makes so much more sense! I had the hardest time figuring out that last little bit, lol! Thanks for the clarification; I shall continue to ganbatte my way through this crazy language! ;)

    45. You and me too~ I'm going for ni-kyuu now because I figure I might as well. *_*

As for the dolls, I'm so glad as cute and lovely as the Yos are and as gorgeous as Irvin is in person I'm safe because I can prep myself for Golden Week.

... though, Remi's outfit is kinda super adorable.

    46. I have a question regarding the "Designer Collection" clothing. By "designer" are these clothes better quality than the normal Volks clothing? I love Volks dolls, wigs, eyes, but I think the clothing is extremely poor quality for the price. I have ordered many outfits but have been disappointed when they have arrived. There are a couple outfits I like in this Dolpa's Designer collection but I am hesitant to purchase them. Thanks.

    47. ugh... those yos.... they are so cute! like mini pearls! i wonder what the chances would be of getting one....

    48. [IMG]

"Komame Gurumi" (YO size carrying bag) will be sold at Sumika booth.
3,600yen at Dolpa Kyoto 6. 3,780yen with tax. (This item is not limited only for Dolpa Kyoto 6, so you'll have the chance to buy it later.)

    49. Gaaaaaaahhhh!!!! I want it!!!!!!

    50. Why does this not surprise me. :P

Only thing interesting to me is the SD16 girl outfits, which I will probably have no problem getting. The dolls are cute as always, though. :)

    51. why do Yos get all the fun? What about MSD and SD? :(

    52. Seriously! It kinda sad that the MSDs especially are getting little attention. D=

    53. I have noticed the lack of MSDs, especially. SD girls get love, just not boys so much. But hey, only a couple of months till another Dolpa so who knows!

    54. Yeah, why I mentioned MSD first...MSD seems completely forgotten! And such a cute thing only for Yos, I would think all sizes of the carrying bag would sell well. I just don't understand.

    55. I would love a little Komame backpack for my SDs, it would be super heavy though. *_*
