Long, long ago, there were some wonderful patterns posted to the original DoA Yahoogroup, and then imported over to this forum when it got started. As DoA grew and servers changed, those patterns became harder and harder to find. My dear friend SillyDog and I made a project of saving the pattern archive, with the idea of someday adding it to the Wiki or some other part of the forum. As we have time, we'll post those patterns so everyone can use them! Here's the fourth one, contributed by the marvelous Laura Gilkey (halfesperl), exactly as she wrote it and with her original pictures included. If you use this pattern, please give Laura Gilkey the credit for it! Knit Underwear set for Mini Super Dollfie consisting of panties and bra in normal and sultry versions by Laura Gilkey (halfesperl) Permission is granted for members of Den of Angels to make by any means or commission as many garments from this pattern as they wish for their own enjoyment. Permission is also granted for members to sell as many garments from this pattern as they wish, provided that they themselves make by hand those garments intended for sale. Fingering weight yarn on #2 US (2.75mm) needles. Gauge: 7 stitches x 9 rows = 1 inch You will also need elastic thread for the panties, and it does show, so get it to match the yarn if possible. And you will need a stitch holder and may want to use a crochet hook (I used size D) on the bra. Normal Panties: Cast on 23, leaving a long tail at the start for sewing. Pick up elastic thread, and continue with yarn and elastic held together. Row 1-7: K1, p1 rib ---(K1, p1) across odd numbered rows, (p1,k1) across even numbered rows. Break off elastic thread and continue with yarn only. Row 8-16: Stockinette stitch ---K across odd numbered rows, p across even numbered rows. Row 17: Cast off 5 stitches LOOSELY, k across. (18 sts) Row 18: Cast off 5 stitches LOOSELY, p across. (13 sts) Row 19: (S1, k1, psso) twice, k until 4 sts remain, k2tog twice. (9 sts) Row 20: P across. Row 21: S1, k1, psso, k until 2 sts remain, k2tog. (7 sts) Row 22: P across. Row 23: K1, m1, k until 1 st remains, m1, k1. (9 sts) Row 24: P across. Row 25: K1, m1, k1, m1, k until 2 sts remain, m1, k1, m1, k1. (13 sts) Row 26: Cast on 5 sts LOOSELY, p across. (18 sts) Row 27: Cast on 5 sts LOOSELY, k across. (23 sts) Row 28-36: Stockinette stitch. Pick up elastic thread. Row 37-43: K1, p1, rib. Break off elastic thread. Bind off in pattern, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold so that the cast-on and cast-off edges meet; the narrow part that will be folded is the crotch. There should be one yarn tail on each side of the top edge; use them to sew the side seams. Weave in ends of yarn and elastic. These just slip on from the bottom like any panties. The leg openings may be snug going over the thighs; this is why it's important to cast on/off loosely at rows 17, 18, 26, and 27. The waistband will also be a bit loose, but the elastic will keep it from getting sloppy, and the simple design of the top looked best; I don't think shaping would give enough advantage in fit to be worth it. Normal Bra: Cast on 40 Row 1-4: K1, p1 rib ---(K1, p1) across every row. Row 5: (K1, p1) 7 times, k12, (K1, p1) 7 times. Row 6: (K1, p1) 6 times, p16, (K1, p1) 6 times. Row 7: (K1, p1) 5 times, k20, (K1, p1) 5 times. Row 8: (K1, p1) 5 times, p20, (K1, p1) 5 times. Row 9: Cast off 10 loosely in pattern, k20, (K1, p1) 5 times. (30 sts) Row 10: Cast off 10 loosely in pattern, p20. (20 sts) Row 11A: k10, slip remaining sts to a holder. (10 sts) Row 12A: P2 together, p until 1 st remains, s1. (9 sts) Row 13A: S2, pass first st over, k1, pass previous stitch over (see below). K unti 2 sts remain, k2tog. (6 sts) Row 14A: Repeat row 12A. (5 sts) Row 15A: S2, pass first st over, k1, pass previous stitch over, K2 tog, pass previous st over and tie off, leaving a long tail for a crochet chain strap. Pick up sts from holder (10 sts) Row 11B: K across. Row 12B-15B: Repeat rows 12A-15A. Sew the back edges together, or add closures if preferred. Pick up the tails at the top points with a crochet hook, pull up a loop through the tip of the knitting, and chain enough for a strap going over the shoulder to the back of the bra (I used a size D crochet hook and chained 14). Attach the ends of the two chains to two points equidistant from the center back. Weave in ends. My prototype is sewn together in back and the straps are fixed at both ends; I can slip it on her from the bottom, but it's a little troublesome to get her hands through the straps. A few ideas to avoid this problem (I haven't tried these, but they should work): -Add closures at the back of the bra instead of sewing it together. -Make the chains longer and tie them behind her neck instead of attaching them to the back of the bra (or start chains from the back as well as the top points in front and tie them where you want them) -For each strap, take a length of yarn or ribbon, fold it in half, pull the folded end through the back of the bra, pass the ends through the loop and pull it tight (lark's head knot), then bring the ends over her shoulder and pass them through the tip of the knitting at two points, close to each other, but not through the same hole. Now you can tie the ends in a bow to hold the strap, and you can untie the bow and get some slack when putting the bra on. Regarding "S2, pass first st over, k1, pass previous stitch over": this awkward little maneuver acts as a "S1, k1, psso" on the previous row and then another one on the current row. It was the only way I could think of to make a leftward-slanting decrease on a purl row. (continued in the next post!)
Sultry Panties: Cast on 19 Row 1-5: Seed Stitch. ---(K1, p1) across every row. Row 6-12: (K1, p1) twice, work 11 sts in stockinette (k on odd numbered rows, p on even numbered rows), (p1, k1) twice. Row 13: Cast off 3, k 12, (p1, k1) twice. (16 sts) Row 14: Cast off 3, p across. (13 sts) Row 15: (S1, k1, psso) twice, k until 4 sts remain, k2tog twice. (9 sts) Row 16: P across. Row 17: S1, k1, psso, k until 2 sts remain, k2tog. (7 sts) Row 18: P across. Row 19: K1, m1, k until 1 st remains, m1, k1. (9 sts) Row 20: P across. Row 21: K1, m1, k1, m1, k until 2 sts remain, m1, k1, m1, k1. (13 sts) Row 22: Cast on 3, (k1, p1) twice, p across. (16 sts) Row 23: Cast on 3, (k1, p1) twice, k 11, (p1, k1) twice. (19 sts) Row 24-30: (K1, p1) twice, work 11 sts in stockinette (k on odd numbered rows, p on even numbered rows), (p1, k1) twice. Row 31-35: Seed Stitch. ---(K1, p1) across every row. Cast off. Weave in ends. Insert 4 metal eyelets in each side edge (16 eyelets total) and lace up with ribbon. When putting it on, you can get slack in the ribbon, so on this one it isn't so important to cast on/off loosely. Sultry Bra: Cast on 37 Row 1-4 Seed Stitch. ---(K1, p1) across every row. Row 5: K6, work seed stitch (k1, p1) for 25 sts, k6. Row 6: P8, work seed stitch (k1, p1) for 21 sts, p8. Row 7: K10, work seed stitch (k1, p1) for 17 sts, k10. Row 8: P10, work seed stitch (k1, p1) for 17 sts, p10. Row 9A: K10, slip remaining sts to holder. (10 sts) Row 10A: P2 together, p until 1 st remains, s1. (9 sts) Row 11A: S2, pass first st over, k1, pass previous stitch over (see below). K unti 2 sts remain, k2tog. (6 sts) Row 12A: Repeat row 12A. (5 sts) Row 13A: S2, pass first st over, k1, pass previous stitch over, K2 tog, pass previous st over and tie off. Pick up left off sts. (27 sts) Row 9B: Cast off 17 sts loosely in pattern, k10. (10 sts) Row 10B-13B: Repeat rows 10A-13A. Weave in ends. Insert 3 metal eyelets in each front edge (the short ends), one metal eyelet in each front tip, and one each at two points equidistant from center back. Lace up the front edges with ribbon. For each shoulder strap, fold a length of ribbon in half and pass the folded end through the eyelet in the front tip, from outside to inside. Pass the ends through the resulting loop and adjust it so that it lays snug and nice. Pass the ends through the matching eyelet in the back of the bra from outside to inside, and bring the ends up and out from inside the bra, one on each side of the entering ribbon. Adjust the strap to the desired length, then tie the ribbon ends in a bow over the ribbon strap. (On the prototype, the bra straps have the bows in front, but this made the front of the bra look too busy, so I changed it to put them in back.) And now, admire your Mini SD in their new hand-knit underwear! Enjoy!
