@Answer42 Love the hat ánd the outfit, I really ought to take my knitting needles out again. Been awhile.
Oh, dear! What's your favorite, go-to yarn or thread to knit with for bjds? I'm always on the hunt for great yarns!
Huge fan of Valley Yarns - 2/14 Alpaca Silk and 2/10 Merino Tencel (Colrain Lace) Zitron Filisilk RedFish Dyeworks Silk/CashMerino MadelineTosh laceweight and Malabrigo laceweight to name a few of my favorites. My mom also spins, so sometimes I get small skeins of yarn from her
So glad the sweater matches with Xun’s wig. Sweater is coral pink and white with a same color wig with blue shades.
I feel a little bad about using so many yarns with silk (we half jokingly call it "murder fiber") but aside from its high affinity for dyes, it adds a lot of needed strength to super thin yarns. I knit a sweater for one of my big boys with 100% yak down laceweight (mYak baby yak lace), and it was like working with wet tissue paper - the yarn kept pulling apart while I was knitting!
@Girrl Yes, I'm amazed how strong silk fiber is in super thin yarns. It's fabulous for our bjds. Sorry to hear about yak yarn pulling apart. Was it wonderful to handle, though?
The final knit fabric is lovely, although I fulled it slightly before assembling the final sweater because I was concerned about it's strength. Not the best picture, but a good close shot of the final texture. Altaïr is kind of my go to sweater model (because he is the most likely to be wearing actual pants) but this one was actually expressly made for him
@Girrl What delicious shades of color in your sweater! The set-in sleeve is nicely done and it looks like a great fit on your guy!
Thanks! It should be a great fit on him, I wrote the sloper pattern I used for that sweater specifically for the body he's on. I have 6 big LoongSoul dudes, so the sloper kind of wrote itself as I keep knitting sweaters for them. I really should get it cleaned up enough for other people be able to use it, but it's pretty specifically tailored to a now discontinued body, so I'm not sure how useful it would actually be
I hate that my eyesight is worsening due to taking Prednison for month for my kidney desease. Now cataract but fortunately not bad enough for surgery. Anyway I better had chosen a lighter blue for Ralphs sweater in combination with the white cause this dark blue is harder to see with these thin knitting needles (000- 1.5) but well I will see how it goes.
I'm sorry to hear about your eye troubles A lighter blue would look nice (and be easier to see) but that dark blue is really lovely!
@Lelycat Sorry about your eyesight issues. I wish something could be done to help. I really appreciate you posting a photo of your knitting progress! Looks like a very fine workshop area, too! Sending good thoughts. @Girrl I'd love to see you post your sweater pattern, if you feel like it. Knits can be forgiving on fit. Would your pattern be useful for other male BJD bodies?
Rather happy with this silk mohair to knit for Kiki because it was suitable for needles 2.5 so better for me at this moment to knit with. Although Kiki has a nice wig she prefers to be bold.
The shirt and shoes that I made for Iple Ralph will probably be for my new doll when he arrives. (Xaga doll ) Now I am knitting a warm V-neck sweater/vest for him. What kind of trousers would look nice besides jeans?? Maybe cargo pants??
The vest sweater is ready. When the new boy arrives I can't use Ralph's shoes cause those are about 5 mm longer. Just checked the measurements. So by then I'll make him new ones. There are various ways to close a V-neck but for this one I chose the cross-over method.
@nancy_schroeder_ca it is a cotton with silky feel when blocked. I was given several balls years ago and still use them. No label though.
Finally finished knitting this sweater! it's a mink/cashmere blend laceweight by the now defunct Great Northern Yarns on 4/0 needles (1.2mm) and I love how soft and smooshy it is, but it's a little bulky for the pattern I used (probably should have used a mohair laceweight, but I absolutely DETEST mohair soo...)
Th This is absolutely lovely and that shade of pink is pretty! I really like V neck sweaters, though I've never knitted that kind of collar before. When knitting such tiny stitches, how do you go about picking up stitches on the edge? Are you still able to see where each row is clearly enough? I'm attempting to knit a small cardigan but don't know how I'd go about finishing the edges since the stitches are too fuzzy for me to distinguish from each other. D:
Thank you! Are you referring to the surplice collar? I intentionally did that to keep the sweater reversible (the front and back are exactly the same) I didn't have any issues picking up stitches along the edge for the collar, but I'm only picking them up at the end of every other row - more like how one does an applied i-cord edging, rather than the usual PUK 380 stitches along the neck edge and hope your bind off is even and pretty (mine almost never are, the other benefit of the surplice neckline is that my fugly bound off edge is always stealthily hidden, always ) You could always knit the edgings for your sweater separately, then sew them on afterwards, which is sometimes necessary if you're using contrasting colors and are worried about the dyes bleeding when/if you wet block Thank you! I wanted a big boxy 80's-ish sweatshirt vibe, but, you know, not an actual big boxy 80's sweatshirt more glamour, less... that other thing (glam?) I grew up in the 80's and I didn't like most 80's fashion as a kid, and don't like it much now either
No fancy stitches involved so the back is a bit boring to knit but my girl wants a sweater with elephant. Front ready so far. Cotton with silky feel needles 1.5mm
honestly, I don't know how your stitches are so perfect and even while working with cotton yarn! I need the elasticity of wool to even out my sometimes erratic gauge
For me wool doesn't work at all. I have always knitted with cotton, but special cotton like Venne colcoton brand that comes in various thickness.
I guess we all work best with what we're used to I think I'll leave the jaw-dropping cotton knits to you
yay, knitting! I just finished a jumper for my Yo-SD. It's a tad big for her, but it's the first time in years I've knit something doll sized. It's not a great picturre, but it's the Feline Phantom, but I shrunk it down and simplified the colourwork to doll size (56 sts on 2mm needles, wouldve needed smaller needles and probs lace weight yearn tho). I have one in similar colours in me-human-size haha. (messy wig and stuff, sorry >-< )
Thank you @Lelycat ! I think it'd fit a slightly bigger doll a bit better, but I'm quite pleased with it ^w^
Just 1 front is ready at this point but is nice to knit this long and colorful cardigan for my Souldoll Yeonsoo. It will get matching buttons.
The complete outfit I made for her is now finished: underwear, leggings, shoes and the knitted cardigan.
I've just got into knitting for my girls and have been really enjoying all the help and advice on the knitting threads. I only seem to be able to see from version 4 onwards and wonder if there is any way of accessing versions 1,2 & 3 or if they are gone forever.
I am kind of lazy when it comes to recalculating pattern design for different sizes and gauge, so I made a computor program for this some time ago. Now I have added one more "generator". This makes cardigan patterns with raglan sleeves. It would please me a lot if it can be found useful for others as well.- It is for free and can be found at my non comercial page KerstinJenny – Diverse hjälp för stickning och virkning – Some help for knitting and crocheting - select Generate knitting instructions (Eng). I have tried to make it "English" but I am Swedish, so .. The yarn is DROPS Kid-Silk. I used two 2 mm needles. The doll is LittleMonica Cloe.
oh my gosh these generators look like such great resources, thank you so much for sharing! I've also admired your patterns on ravelry before, you make such beautiful things. I'll definitely be using this to work out the instructions for my next cardigan!
Will the 8th try be the charm? For months, I've been working on a knit pants pattern for Realpukis using 1 ply of DMC embroidery floss and U.S. size #00 000 needles. (I know - I'm crazy!) Starting from the left, the pants looked okay but the loose fit is not how people wear pants these days. The 2nd try looked more modern but still not quite right. On the 3rd try, I used rayon floss for the yellow side and found it's a pain to knit, thicker than DMC cotton and the glossy finish doesn't even show up in the photo! On the 4th try, I saved some time by knitting board shorts. On the 5th try, the back looks too high up on Obi. On the 6th try, I saved time by making short shorts. And on the 7th try, the pants are a little low on Kaka. With seven tries, I've found I have to choose between pants that look a little too low or a little too high in the back. Any thoughts?
Goodness, Answer42! 7 tries! #6 looks good from the front! Maybe add a few rows to the top of Kaka's pants, or just pu stitches and do a few rows of ribbing? Overall, they're all probably quite happy with each slightly different pair of pants!
@Answer42 - higher backs means easier sitting without flashing butt cleavage, so I usually err on the side of higher
@El BJD Your idea of a few more rows sounds great! @Girrl Higher back = no butt cleavage! I should've thought of that! Good point! @kobbi A vote for #5 is a vote for more coverage! To all, THANK YOU so much! I should've asked y'all sooner in the process. I will write the pattern with the better coverage!
Hello, I'm new here, and while I'm waiting for my dolls to arrive, am trying my hand on clothes for them. I saw a lot of beautiful knitted items on this thread, and thought I would show you a sweater I made for my Souldoll Zenith Boy. It's a tiny bit on the oversized side, and I am making a second one, but I still like it. 20211203_145530 by Amber Connor, sur Flickr
