Knitting Knitting Circle V8

Mar 27, 2016

    1. That’s a wonderful pattern, it looks very complicated. And the color compliments your girl very well.

    2. Thank you) But in real the color is more deep then on photo

    3. @Natawik
      I love this pretty sweater!

    4. Thats just too gorgeous. I have not been able to find knitting needles smaller than 2 mm... so amazed at your tiny ones. Idk if I’d have the patience for a whole sweater so I really admire this so much.

    5. I've been watching pukipuki for a long time.
pukipuki is so tiny and cute!!
The hat and dress colror are so beautiful and well suited!

    6. You can find very small diameter knitting needles online. I've found knitting needles down to #00000000 (#8/0) U.S. online.

1.25 mm is about #0000 U.S. and about #16 or #18 Canadian, depending on which chart you believe! Japanese knitting needles use a different metric system.

If you get into tiny knitting, I recommend getting a caliper to physically measure your needle diameter. Needle diameters on this scale vary greatly among brands. The size variations make a noticeable difference in stitch gauge. I use a plastic caliper to keep my needles separated by their actual diameter and not their labeled size. Calipers range from $2 for plastic ones to spendier versions with digital readouts.
      Happy Knitting!

    7. , thank you)))
, I have needles smaller than 2 mm, but i love to use 1,25mm) Thank you)

    8. Imagine it's a hot August afternoon and your littlest ones need a quiet place for a nice nap...

The book below has a great pea pod pattern (and other quick and cool knitting projects). With just a few extra rows and stitches, the pattern makes a great bed for 4" Realpuki and 4.4" Pukipuki. (The alterations are too minor for me to publish the pattern in good conscience.)
      Stay cool and have fun!

    10. Thank you, @Jany and @Lelycat! It was so fun to knit those pea pods!

I just posted a Pukifee-sized knit coat and a pumpkin hat pattern in Workshop: Patterns: Knitting.
It took me forever to get the pattern right but it actually knits up very fast due to the small size!

    14. @Lelycat NICE, fine knitting and I love your color combination!

    15. Thank you @Answer42 Only wished I had a better camera though as it is much nicer in reality

    16. Now it's September and a good nap needs an afghan.
I knitted a traditional ripple afghan for my 10" Littlefee.

I used #0 U.S. needles and 2 strands of 2/20 rayon thread (12 sts/inch in stockinette stitch, blocked). The rayon gave me the drape I wanted for this scale.

I had just started on the 8" by 11.5" afghan when I wondered how many stitches the afghan would take. I foolishly did the math: 18,837 stitches! What had I gotten myself into?! To make it bearable, I figured out that just 2 rows was over 1% of the project. If I did 10 rows a day, the afghan would be done in 20 days. And it took about that long to complete. Whew! Glad I'm done!

    24. @Lelycat WONDERFUL cardi! I especially like the collar/neckline treatment! And buttons that are worthy of your knitting!

BTW, what size are those buttons? The scale is awesome!

    25. Thanks so much @Answer42 These buttons are 4 mm and are black with gold.

    26. Posting in here for the first time with my MSD lace pullover from @MurisDesigns!!

Its intended recipient is still in pieces while I restore her, but it's good to know she'll have something to wear once she's back together. There are a few things I would do differently next time (plan the yarn pooling better, for one). I knit this with Lion Brand Amazing in the Olympia colorway, on US 4 needles.
I've never knit a sweater before (for dolls or people) and now I've got the bug! I want to make more!

    27. @Ferret-hime Very impressive sweater! Fancy stitches! I love the color variations.
What would you do differently next time?

    28. I would plan my use of the yarn a little better so I'd have the sleeves in similar tones, instead of vastly different. I was a little sloppy while I was seaming everything up, so the seams are kind of bulky. Plus....I kind of hate moss stitch, so I'd just switch to k1p1 rib for the hem and neckline. But I'm glad it at least looks impressive! :sweat

    29. Autumn in Sweden
Yarn: TeeTeeElegant and pins: 1.5 mm Doll: Little Monica Cloe SD
The raglan is made top-down. I have just finished a pattern generator for raglan sweaters like this for dolls and tested it by generating the pattern for this sweater. The coloured part is plain fantasy and not part of the pattern. I would be very happy if anyone like to use the generator. It is a hobby project of mine, You can find it a kerstinjenny.com

    30. That sweater is gorgeous! I love the colors you chose

    31. @JennyM I'll definitely be using that pattern generator! I love knitting top down raglan sweaters - this generator will help a lot figuring everything out, thank you!

    32. @JennyM Wow! What a fine sweater!

    33. Thank you all for your encouraging comments! This Knitting Circle is always so inspiring to look at. So many fantastic items! I admire the fantasy you all show. It is also great if my calculations at kerstinjenny.com will help some of you to focus on your design as it helps me. I also use diagrams at kerstinjenny.com created from the gauge to make necklines and intarsia patterns. There are other free programs for this but I like to develop things myself. The page is a hobby project that hopefully evolves.

    35. Wonderful work, Lelycat!

I recently got both 1m and ,75m circs but haven't tried them out yet. They could start an intravenous, they're so sharp! My 1.25m stainless steel dpns made my fingers bleed for a time, eep! But now I also have a bunch of thread for knitting with them, so one day, I'll have to give it a go!

    36.
    37. @Lelycat FABULOUS knitting! The little plaid skirt really shows off the snowman sweater nicely!

@El BJD Those tiny knitting needles are sharp! I gotta keep up on my tetanus shots with those things! (I keep poking myself in the leg trying to move the stitches on the needle.) I need to glue beads on some of my needles: I need to keep some of them as double-pointed needles for things like I-cord.

      • x 1
    38. I also use the thin sock needles that have points on both ends. When knitting something wider, like the body of a sweater, I will tightly wrap a tiny elastic around one end, basically turning it into a one-pointed needle, but it's not permanent.

    39. Whew!
After a lot of work (5 versions of the acorn hat and agonizing over the fit of the coat!), I've posted new Realfee patterns in the Workshop for both hat and coat. I could use some chocolate to celebrate!
