Knitting Knit - Wrap Sweater

Nov 21, 2011

3mm needles and some melange yarn. There were 3 stitches per 1cm of knit.

      Cast on 65 stitches.
Knit 10 rows of pearl pattern.
11th row - knit the first 5 stitches in pearl pattern to get a pearl border. Knit in stockinette.
Knit 30 rows of pearl border&stockinette.
First decrease - knit two stitches together just after the pearl border; make 6 decreases in total, with 8 stitches between them
Knit 3 rows of pearl border&stockinette.
Second decrease - like the first decrease, but there should be 7 stitches between them.
Knit 18 rows of pearl border&stockinette.
Divide the stitches remaining on your needle by two. The part with the pearl border is your front, the rest is your back. Mark the centre or transfer the back stitches to another needle.

Knit the front, decreasing once at each edge.
Knit 7 rows of pearl border&stockinette.
Decrease once at each edge. Knit 7 rows of pearl border&stockinette.
Decrease for the third time. Now you have decreased three times, with 7 rows of stockinette between.
Knit another couple of rows and bind off.

The back is the same as the front - minus the pearl border - and you can skip one decrease.
Knit it a row or two longer than the front and bind off.

      Sleeves - make two.
      Cast on 27 stitches.
Knit 10 rows of pearl pattern.
      Knit 32 rows of stockinette.
33th row - follow the decrease pattern for the front, but on the last decrease, knit every two stitches together. This cuts the amount of stitches in half.

Sew the seam on both sleeves. Attach the first sleeve to the armhole - where the is no side seam. It's easier to work from the collar.
Attach the second sleeve. You sew only the back and the sleeve together, dong go to the front except for stitch or two.

      Collar.
Pick up stitches all around the front, the back and both sleeves. Pull a stitch through seams too, you'll need this thing to be even.
Knit 20 rows of pearl patters. Bind off.

Sew the side seam of the dress. Don't attach the sleeve to the front, you'll need the gap to fit the dress onto your doll.

Sew in some small snap or other closure of choice.

      Edit

I have a question on this part, since it's sort of tricky:

So does that mean some parts will be knitted before the others?

    6. You may have already figured this out, but yes, the simplest way to knit this is to put the stitches for the back on a holder (a spare needle, waste yarn, or my favourite: one or more safety pins) while you knit the front to the end of the pattern, then start on the back. If you think you're up to the challenge, though, you can knit both parts at the same time. Use the other end of your ball of yarn, or a second ball if you have it, for the back, while continuing to use the end you already have on the front. You will knit one row of the front, drop your front yarn, pick up your back yarn, and knit one row of the back. Then you'll turn your work, and purl one row of the back, drop your back yarn, pick up your front yarn, and purl one row of the front.

One big piece of advice I have with this is, DON'T PUT YOUR WORK DOWN WHEN YOU'VE WORKED A ROW OF THE FRONT BUT NOT THE BACK (or vice versa)! It's *very* hard to tell whether you were working on a right-side (knit) row or wrong-side (purl) row because of the position the yarn will finish in, and you can end up with front and back being a different length! So either stop at the end of a complete row (when you've knit or purled across both front and back) or in the middle of one of the pieces; then it's always easy to figure out which way you're going!

    7. Thank you for your kindly :aheartbea That is the nice dress!!

    8. Thank you for the pattern! I have couple of questions: is this for an MSD doll? And what kind of yarn did you use - fingering (sock) yarn?
      Thanks!
