Here is my pattern for my Ribbed Band Beanie for MSD all the way up to 72cm SD. The ribbing helps it to fit various sizes so modding the pattern isn't necessary. I worked it up pretty loosely but didn't measure my gauge. I wanted something a little open looking. sorry for the bad pic, poor lighting. I will try to update with a better picture when I get the chance. Materials used US size D3 (3.25mm) hook Sport weight yarn (I used Red Heart Soft Baby in white) Pattern Pattern is worked from the bottom up. All rows are joined with a slipstitch. The chain stitches at the beginning of each row counts as the first stitch. Loosely Ch44 Join with slst being careful not to twist. R1 – ch 3, dc around, join (44 sts) R2 – R3 - ch 3, *fpdc, bpdc* repeat ** around, join (44 sts) R4 – R9 – ch1, sc around, join (44 sts) R10 – ch1 *sc2tog, sc 7* repeat ** around, join (39 sts) R11 - ch1 *sc 6, sc2tog* repeat ** around, join (35 sts) R12 - ch1 *sc2tog, sc 5* repeat ** around, join (30 sts) R13 - ch1 *sc 4, sc2tog* repeat ** around, join (26 sts) R14 - ch1 *sc2tog, sc 3* repeat ** around, join (21 sts) R15 - ch1 *sc 2, sc2tog* repeat ** around, join (16 sts) R16 - ch1 *sc2tog, sc 1* repeat ** around, join (11 sts) R17 - ch1 sc2tog around, join (7 sts) Tie off leaving at least 6” tail. Finishing Off From the inside weave the tail in and out of the stitches and pull tight; this will neatly close the hole at the top of the head. Tie off and weave in all ends.
I just used you pattern. I'm a beginnerish....been doing the same stitch for a while, but am now learning new stitches and patterns...I missed a few counts in places, but it looks nice: If you're making this hat for a smaller doll you might want to use a smaller yarn or smaller stitch or something because it came out big for my 60cm SD! A note, instead of weaving away the rest of that 6" tail at the top you could make a pom-pom to go on top of the cap. (cut a bunch of small ish pieces and tie 'em with the tail) on a side note, does anyone have more crochet patterns for 60 cm SD boys?
well Gal darnit. You are correct about the smaller dolls. I will make a new one for MSD. I tried it on a friends doll thinking hers was MSD. Don't ask me why I had that stuck in my head since her doll is the same size as my Renee. Pom Pom's would look super cute for an MSD as well thanks for the idea. HHHMMM perhaps I should include the guage I used in the instructions. I could be wrong but your guage looks a bit off. Pictures are soo hard to tell though so I will post my guage in the pattern posting and that way you can check for yourself. I would really be interested in knowing if it is off or what. Renee wears the hat too and it isn't much bigger on her. But then the different companies do make their heads slightly larger or smaller than each other so that would account for some of the size. Anyhow Thanks so much for the feedback I really appreciate it.
