You need a sock or baby yarn, of course and 2 sets needles, 2 sizes apart (0-2;1-3; 2-4) The finer the needles and yarn, the smaller the mittens. Derry (Dollmore Dry) has the small hands and his mittens were baby yarn but I can't remember the needle sizes! Sorry! With large needle CO 22 sts With small needles work 10 rows 1-1 rib With large needles work 4 rows stockingette stitch, keeping end stitches K on all rows. Now start thumb gusset: R5: K9, K in front and back (Kfb) of next stitch, K1, Kfb, K10 R6: K1, P across, K last stitch R 7: K9, Kfb, K3, Kfb, K10 R8: K1, P across, K last stitch R 9: K9, Kfb, K5, Kfb, K10 R10: K1, P across, K last stitch R 11: K9, Kfb, K7, Kfb, K10 R12: K1, P across, K last stitch R13: K 19, turn R14a: P 8, turn R15a through 18a: repeat R13 and 14 twice, using small needle for R18. Break yarn and pull through the 8 stitches on small needle. Attach yarn to finish R13, turn R14: K1, P across, K last stitch Work stockingette stitch for 10 rows or however long you need Decrease rows: 1] K1, K2tog, K8, sl1, k1, psso, K2tog, K8, sl 1, K1, psso, K1 Even rows: K1, P across, K last stitch 3] K1, K2tog, K6, sl1, k1, psso, K2tog, K6, sl 1, K1, psso, K1 K1, K2tog, K4, sl1, k1, psso, K2tog, K4, sl 1, K1, psso, K1 K1, P across, K last stitch. Weave stitches together and sew side seam and thumb seam. I've used the 'psso' terminology for the decreases. i usually mark them 'dec1L' or 'dec1R' when writing patterns, but the terminology has to be reversed for righties! Just found this post. Thanks! I`ll give it a try. ^^ My only attempt at doll mittens so far was crocheting with my tiniest hook, so trying knitting would be fun!
