Knitting Knit - Clover Cardigan for Mini

Feb 15, 2012

    1. MSD Cardigan Pattern

      Clover

This cardigan was knit with a medium weight yarn so it creates a bulkier, heavier sweater. For a plain cardigan, eliminate the lace pattern and complete the pattern in stocking stitch.

      Needles:
      3.75 mm

      Measurements:
Approximately 11cm wide and 17cm long.

      Abbreviations:

      K – Knit
      P – Purl
YO – Yarn over, bring the yarn to the front of work.
Skpo - Slip one stitch knitways, knit one stitch, pass slipped stitch over the knit stitch.
SK2togpo - Slip one stitch knitways, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over K2tog.

Lace pattern (over a multiple of 7 stitches):

Row 1: (and all wrong side rows) Purl
      Row 2: *K1, yo, skpo, k1, K2tog, yo, k1, repeat from *
Row 3 to Row 10: Repeat Row 1 and Row 2 four more times.
      Row 12: *K2, yo, sk2togpo, yo, k2, repeat from *
      Row 14: *K1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skpo, k1, repeat from *
Row 16: *K2tog, yo, k3, yo, skpo, repeat from *

      Back

      Cast on 27 stitches.
Work 4 rows in K1, P1 rib. (I use a twisted rib – knit into back of stitch, purl 1).
      Knit 1 row.
Row 1: Work 1st row of pattern.
Row 2: Knit 3 sts, pattern across 21 sts, Knit 3.
Work the remaining 14 rows of the lace pattern, knitting 3 stitches at each end of right side rows and completing the pattern on the middle 21 sts. These 3 stitches at each end will be purled on the wrong side rows.
Continue in pattern until desired length (approx. 15cm - 7cm)
Cut yarn and put stitches on holder.

      Left Front

      Cast on 13 stitches.
Work 4 rows in K1, P1 rib as for back.
      Knit 1 row.
      Row 1: Purl
      Row 2: K3, pattern across 7 sts, K3.
Continue in pattern as for back but only on center 7 sts, to 10 rows less than back, ending with right side facing.
Keeping continuity of pattern, cast off 2 sts at beginning of next row (11sts).
      Purl 1 row.
Decrease by working 2 stitches together on next and every alternate row until 7 sts remain.
Cut yarn and put stitches on holder.

      Right Front

Complete as for Left Front reversing shaping at neck edge, (i.e. work one less row before starting shaping).

      Joining Shoulder Seams

I use a three needle cast off to join the shoulder seams as I find it leaves a neater seam.
Put the 7 stitches from one front on a needle with wrong side facing, and put the corresponding 7 sts from the back on a needle with the right side facing. Holding these two needles together with the right sides of the pieces facing each other, with a third needle knit together a stitch from each of the two left hand needles. Continue in this manner across the row, casting off the stitches as normal. Complete for the other shoulder seam in the same manner. There are lots of web sites with videos of this method if you find my explanation confusing! If you prefer, you can cast off the stitches from the back and front and sew together. Sew across 7 stitches for each shoulder and leave the center 14 stitches for the neck band.

      Neck Band

Pick up and knit 9 sts up the right neck shaping, knit across the 14 sts from the back, pick up and knit 9 sts up the left neck shaping (32sts). Work 4 rows in K1, P1 rib.
      Cast off in rib.

      Buttonhole Band

Pick up and knit 37 stitches along right front from the bottom of the rib to the top of the neck band. Work 2 rows in K1, P1 rib.
Buttonhole row: work 3sts in rib, yo, k2tog, work 8 sts in rib, yo, k2tog, work 8 sts in rib, yo, k2tog, work 8 sts in rib, yo, k2tog, work 2 sts in rib.
      Work 2 rows in rib.
      Cast off in rib.

      Button Band

Repeat along the left front edge as for buttonhole band eliminating the buttonhole row and replacing this row with a row of K1, P1 rib.

      Sleeves

Pick up and knit 24 stitches along the outside edge of the front and back (12 sts before shoulder seam and 12 stitches after).Row 1: Purl
      Row 2: K5, pattern across 14 sts, K5.
Continue in pattern in this manner to 10cm, decreasing 4sts evenly spaced on last wrong side row.
Work in K1, P1 rib for 5 rows.
Cast off in rib.Repeat for the other sleeve.Sew side and Sleeve seams.
Sew on buttons corresponding to the buttonholes.

Please feel free to contact me if you find any errors in the pattern or if there is anything you need clarifying. :)

      Thank you, MurisDesigns

I'm fairly new to these forums and have only been lurking for the time I have been here! I design hand-knit BJD clothing and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a couple of free patterns? If I get enough interest I'll take the time to write them up and post them here!:)
