Beans to Knit by Margie Robison Made with Pretty Punch Acrylic yarn and 000 needles. You can use a smaller needle if you like but a larger one will give too loose a knit. Using larger needles and 4 ply threads will make a larger scale Bean. Once you have the basic pattern set you can change it to whatever stitch you like. Try the body in moss stitch, stockinette or garter stitch. Ribbing creates a very snug body and you may want to reduce the size of the needles to knit the face if you use a ribbing stitch. Garter and moss stitches make great bodies for the animals. If you can knit in the round then go for it! No back seams! CO 12 Row 1: knit across Row 2: k3 p1 k3 p1 across change color repeat row one and two for each color 12 rows for body Change color to flesh for face Knit in Stockinette stitch for 6 rows beginning with Row 13: Knit across. leave a fairly long tail (5 or 6 inches) to stitch the back of the head closed. Change color for hat: Knit in Stockinette stitch for 5 or 6 rows beginning with Row 19: Knit across To end off - clip yarn leaving a generous tail to sew bean closed. Thread onto tapestry needle and slip stitches from knitting needle to tapestry needle beginning with the end opposite where the yarn is. This creates a loop. Snug the stitches closely together to make the top of the hat and fasten in place with an additional stitch close the back seam with a ladder stitch. Change color to flesh to sew head shut with and tuck extra yarn into the head for stuffing. Finish stitching up the back and then stuff loosely with yarn scraps or a bit of poly stuffing. Gather the bottom row of the bean onto the needle and draw stitches into loop at the base fasten thread and bury into the bean. Clip close to stitching to end. Use embroidery thread or yarn to add eyes and mouth.
