Keid - completed(first cast pic on pg 4)

    1. Okay, so while I was into the casting phase of Ain, I decided to keep going in the sculpting department and started a new boy...Keid. Thought he could get his own thread. Here is the roughed out version with some initial sanding done.

      I'm not sure about his ears yet, why I haven't done the inside yet...and I'm still trying at the teeth in his mouth. But it's a start anyway!

    11. his mouth looks scaringly much like mine XD but I like it! I dont like his eye shape so much... maybe a bit to asian for me... but further i really like him so far :D I'm curious to see how his teeth will work out

    13. Oh my goodness, thanks for all the great comments! I'm going to have to give his mouth some thought, I'm a bit stumped as to what to do next :sweat , but it's something I really wanted to try. I'll let that part rest for a while and work on his headcap and ears. I'll post more WIP pics when I can (have 3 Ains cast that need drilling, sanding, blah,blah all that neat stuff...I wonder if he's a bit ticked that I've moved on to someone new already ;) ).

    15. I was wondering...should the teeth be separate pieces that are inserted (like eyes) or should they be part of the sculpt? I'm just wondering what would be best. Any thoughts?

    17. I would make them removable, just like the eyes, then you have the option of giving him a gold tooth or a diamond on it :)

      If you want, I found this tutorial on LJ that posted interesting instructions on teeth, but it seems to have been deleted o: But I saved it, so here it is uploaded on imageshack if you like :)

      I'm love your sculpts so far!! I can't wait to see how this one turns out :D

    19. Some of my dolls have molded in teeth, (look at Volks' Megu, Mimi) and I didn't have any problem doing the faceups, I vote for molded in!

    21. Thanks for the feedback! Okay, so I've hollowed out where his teeth will go...I was worried at first thinking I would screw it up but things went okay. I'm working on the teeth today and I think they're kinda cute. I loved your comment, penguu, that he looks like he's trying to be tough:lol: ! I'm naming the dolls after stars and Keid is in the River constellation and means "broken eggshells" and I thought something's broken, crying a river....Keid.

      I'm going to get his dentures worked out and his ears roughed in and then post some pics!

    22. ^^ Oh he's cute too! I like so much his mouth, will you do it in separate piece? i think in separate piece teeth will look too deep, or maybe not ^^u

    33. Thanks everybody! I'm working on finishing up the teeth insert and then it will be minor tweaking before I make his mold. I really like this guy, personally, and can't wait to move past the clay stage!

    39. When I discovered Dollstown I was so inspired, that's one of the major reasons why I started Adam, and I went over and over and over the in-progress pics to try to help me figure out how I should build my doll. I loved how realistic the proportions were, and the level of detail in the anatomy just blew me away.

    42. Thanks! It's been fun sculpting his mouth and I think the next one will have a closed mouth but with the fuller lips (compared to Ain, who has thinner lips...they get that way from dealing with me ;) ).

    48. Oh man, I really hope you sell him with Ain's body. I honestly, honestly, truly, how many times can I repeat this?, want him. He does remind me of Dollstown Estella, except I like your boy even better. I'd love to see your next heads. You just sculpt so beautifully.

      Auugh, and now you've got me gushing. X3

      EDIT: Just wanted to mention that I truly wanted to buy your Ain, but, as you can see, I still haven't sold my doll yet, so I didn't have the funds, unfortunately.

Oh, and about Ain, there's another one that will be ready soon and in the next batch I'm going to try a white skin version so that might be neat to see. Personally I think I'm going to make myself a white skin Keid (yeah, if I get around to it :lol: )!

      I think I'll work on different mouth pieces...I like him without the teeth, he has a nice open mouth look, but if it's just dark in there it might look strange. But first I want to get the regular teeth in right so they're not a pain to deal with!

      The type I've been using is extremely brittle, hard to shape, and it dries so quickly you end up having to carve any detail you actually wanted, but then it actually breaks off in little pieces, needing more sanding.. ^^;
      I will give premier clay a chance, I'm still searching for the perfecting working material~
