Kaye Wiggs Annabella Mini discussion Part 1

Oct 31, 2009

    1. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=333412

I just saw this news thread, and thought I could find other Kaye Wiggs admirers here. Grael has started a mailing list for those interested in this adorable girl, in elf and human versions. I was quite thrilled to see that she comes with a body! I don't know where Kaye is having her or her body cast, but I do know that all of her work is always beautifully done.

    2. Hi, its Grace (grael).
On the new cutie, we have a factory that makes many of the very famous bjd dolls you all know and love. Please be assured that although these dolls will be factory painted, they will be to done to Kaye's specs and approved only by Kaye herself. Kaye has never used my factory before, so this is all brand new.

Kaye has sculpted the body and it is gorgeous, a young body, slender, could be little girl or pre-teen. The painting will be Elf, no freckles, Human very light on the nose, pretty much as shown.
If anyone has questions, please feel free to either email or pm me.
I am so HAPPY, because I am getting a dolly too!!!

    3. Hi her body will be about the size of Dollstown 7, which does fit msd normal clothing well, she will just be a bit taller than regular msd's. I have my head currently on a dollstown 7, and she fits volks, Dollheart and Anotherspace very well. I am also making new patterns, all free on my site to fit her for those who sew.

    4. I had PM'd grael about wig size: Annabella will wear a 7-8 (and grael will be listing some new wigs/colors for her soon!).

    5. Hi and on measurements, she will be about the size of Dollstown 7. I will post exact as soon as I have them, but I can tell those of you that are not familiar Narin and Unoa are much smaller dolls. She is truer to an MSD of say Volks girth but taller like DT7 so about 44cm as opposed to 41 or 43.

    6. Hi Everyone,

Thanks gatodelsol for bringing this thread to my attention ;)

Thank you everyone for your wonderful support in buying Annabella. I'm so grateful to Grace for doing this for me and hopefully we can continue with our arrangement for future dolls. I'm positive Grace is an angel.

Here is some body pics of her ..

This is the body that I sent to the factory .. they are presently preparing it for moldmaking and we hope to have sample dolls soon. Then we will be taking heaps of pics of her dressed and undressed :D can't wait!!

      BIG HUGS to everyone :aheartbea
      Kaye

    7. Hi everyone, forgive the lateness here, but I have been swamped.
Here is Annabella on Dollstown 7, similar to Kaye's body. Note how loose the dress is at the waist, the shoulder seam is past the shoulder and it is longish on her too. The dress Annabella is wearing is the next pattern offer, along with the shoe pattern.
Thank you everyone for all of your comments.

      Hugs
      Grace

    9. Hi everyone, so glad you like my photos.

Ok blonde wig is Ciara in 7-8 in light blonde on our site.

On Riz and Annabella size. First of all Riz is actually smaller than a real MSD as defined by Volks. Who by the way has the only actual MSD. So Riz is smaller, see how big that 7-8 wig is on her, she could take one of my 6-7 stretched. So Annabella is not that big, just Riz is smaller. Someone here was asking for comparison.

The brown wig she has on in the photo of here and Riz is my Ashes in Dark Chocolate, I have a small amount of those coming in next week, along with black, autumnmoon, rosegold. I love her in black or brown myself.

Kaye's body is cuter than dollstown in my opinion, but it will be close to the same size, that is what Kaye aimed for. She will however, have a bit chubbier butt, lol. I think I like that. I will keep the photo's coming for all those who are waiting. BTW I am waiting with you, I am getting a human one!

    10. Taking a break from pots and pans.
Gatodelsol, yes they are mine. I was a designer in the 80's, sewed many of my own clothes and of course, dressed my porcelains. I have mountains of fabric, trim, patterns, etc. I will try and get the new pattern up by the weekend.
If I had more time I would get one up a week, but I will try to get several up in the next couple of weeks.

    11. Thank you for explaining, Grael! :) It is great to know that we will hopefully receive the dolls sooner than expected! I wonder if they have 7mm feet? I really want to buy Dollmore shoes for her, but not sure if they will fit. I'm going to check out the Dollstown foot measurement right now!

    12. Gateaux follow your dreams!!! Pull out that maching and create!!

GreenBee: Dollmore shoes tend to be small, not always but many are, they fit the Dollmore dolls which are very thin and small than normal MSD, I have 2 of them and they are closer to Unoa than MSD. Just so you know, they could be a tight fit. Dollheart should work , also there are many sellers on ebay and I have the Cutie KrissKross which are a bit big but really cute.

    13. Just sharing a photo of my elf head in rosegold hair and the outfit that I will have the pattern up for in just a few days.
The outfit will be this one piece dress, underskirt and the shoes.
I made this one from Vintage French Silk, vintage trims on the dress.

    14. Grace, what size eyes do you have in your Annabella?
PS I think that Rose Gold is such a beautiful color...

    15. I love all the pictures. Grace what are the names of the wig in the last 2 pictures? They look like the same wig but just different colors. And do you remember the name of the curly blond wig you put on her when she was sitting in the chair? That was so cute.

    16. 62kitty, these are the ashes wigs in 7-8 on my site, it is my favorite and it can be styled in so many ways. I know, me too, I want at least 12 Annabellas so I can put different wigs and outfits on her, maybe I should give up all my dolls and just have her, lol.

Thank you AnitaS, it is one of my favorite that I ever created, it is just that, rose color mixed with gold strands, it is just so pretty.

Gatodelsol: Please share with us, I would love to see what you make.

I used my 16mm glass eyes on her, I think they fit best.

Thank you Kaye, wish I could quit working and just sew for her, take photos and sew some more. Where is that Billionare I was going to marry, lol.

    17. I so love my little Liam. He is wearing the outfit he got from Sharon and the sweater and hat from a webkinz. Abby{Pip} is now on the dollstown 7 body that Kaye blushed for my Annabella human girl. Annabella is waiting for her new Kaye body that I'm getting. I think he is in love.

    18. So, I finished my first dress for Annabella! And, well, it actually looks like a dress!! ;) And while I wouldn't want any experienced seamstresses inspecting my work, and I won't be quitting my day job, I'm quite happy with it!! I made it sleeveless and collarless - figured if I succeeded at something simple, I'd be more likely to do more! I haven't decided on the closure for the back, but it's complete enough to model. It's being modeled by my DZ girl, who is 44cm tall, so approximately the same height Annabella will be.

    19. Hi All,
Just wanted to pop in and say hi :D
We should have our Annabella samples soon and I am can't wait!!. If all is well with the samples the factory will be ready to start production right away. This is so scary but very exciting:dance

Ruskyles .. my Snoopy is doing well at the moment. Thanks for asking :D Hope he continues to improve.

Rioky .. the human comes with the aquaish glass eyes and the elf comes with the different colours in her eyes .. I'll attach pics so you can see.

      [IMG] [IMG]

    20. SQEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! We are so close to seeing pics of the final product!!! Kaye, what size are the eyes in these pics? grael mentioned she prefers 16mm on her, so I'm assuming the eyes in her pics are 16mm. Maybe it's my imagination, or the angle of the pics, but the eyes in these 2 pics seem a bit smaller (more white showing)?

ruskyles, I haven't had enough experience with different eyes to have a favorite, yet. I've been looking at the Masterpiece eyes, too, though....so many wonderful colors!!

gateaux, hope your fabric arrives soon! Looking forward to seeing what you create!

    21. gatodelsolv ... the eyes are 16mm .. same as Grace uses :D

    22. Wig question for Grace or Kaye -- I know she's a 7-8, but will a 6-7 Monique stretch over her head? I only have one other doll with a 7-8 head and I can get a 6-7 monique on it. It's not fun, but it can be done <g>.

Not that I'd buy a 6-7 for Annabella, but I happen to have several already and wonder if they would go on her head at all.

    23. Hi AnitaS, no 6-7 will not work. Annabella is a true 7-8. She is closer to the 8 than the 7, so 6-7 is way too small. Many of the dolls out there are marked head size in non-stretch wigs, meaning they say a head is 7-8 because it takes that size in wigs that do not stretch.

The second dress pattern is not up yet, my scanner program went crazy and I am replacing it. Then I will scan and put up. At the top of the site (not on the sidebar) there are tabs, it is next to the links tab. You have to make the site full screen depending on your browser.

    24. Here is my girl again to inspire you all, now in a different color. I tell you she can wear anything.

    25. Grace- do you sell eye putty?

It's snowing here. We were only supposed to get 1-3 inches but we have 5 or 6 already. Does it snow in Australia? Liam doesn't seem too uncomfortable taking his little sister Hannah Mary out in the snow. Hope Annabella and Isabella like it too.

    26. Sooooo, I was lucky enough to meet grael today, and to SEE ANNABELLA IN PERSON!!! Not on the Kaye Wiggs body, of course, but I SAW ANNABELLA!!! I can confirm we are, indeed, in for a treat when ours arrive. The pictures we've seen here are gorgeous, we all agree. Well, as gorgeous as she is in the pictures.....pictures just don't do her justice. I was awestruck when I first saw her in person....she really is exquisite. Well worth whatever it took to get her (i.e., selling stuff, cutting back on the lattes, second mortgage on the house....;) ).

      So, sooooo excited!!!!

      :)

(Here she is, looking a bit overwhelmed by the Firefly Faerie reunion taking place on her lap!)

    27. It was so wonderful to meet you Gatodelsol. It is amazing how different your girl looked than mine, these girls are just amazing!
Maybe we can get together for a latte sometime and bring the girls!! Fairy Party at a Starbucks!!

Someone here asked about eye putty. The best stuff in the world is at your local drug store, go to the ear plug section for swimming. I think the name is Macks. They are perfect and stick like nothing else, they are these round putty like things you stick in your ears while swimming. But they hold eyes in perfectly and you can break them apart to use smaller or larger amounts, cheap too!

    28. It really is amazing how different they look - they may be the same mold, but they truly are unique little individuals!! (Ha! A Fairy Party at Starbucks would be great!)

I second the recommendation for the ear plugs as eye putty! The name brand is Mack's (I found a generic store brand on sale for $1.00/pack!) - just look for silicone ear plugs.

    29. I was saving this as a surprise but 'the cat is out of the bag" so to speak. I really don't see why cats should be in bags though, lol,
Everyone, take a read of this article
      http://www.bjdcollectasy.com/

    30. DollZwize, there really are no words - but I know everyone here will experience the same sense of awe when you finally see your Annabellas in person (and I will feel it all over again when I hold my own Annabella in my hands! Yes, I got to hold Grace's!). I walked into the house, met Grace, we were talking and walking towards the jpop display, and I turned and saw Annabella and literally stopped dead in my tracks and said "oh my god!". She will inspire many "oh my god" moments when she arrives! And re: Annabella's body, from everything Grace said about it (raves!), we will be every bit as impressed by it as by her beautiful face!

The trunk show/meet-up was great - I've never been to one, so it was such a fun experience to be in a houseful of people who all share the passion. Lots of cool dolls, lots of cool people, getting to try on wigs, getting to introduce Lyra to the other fireflies (and to Annabella - Lyra is now eagerly awaiting her arrival, too. While she is adamantly opposed to another firefly in the house, she is very excited about other faeries in the house!). And of course, the hightlight of the event, meeting Grace, who is such a wonderful person, and such an inspiration. (And while this is a bit OT here, I'll say it anyway.....I hope at last a handful of the firefly family can make it to the Austin convention....would be so much fun for more of us to meet, and having our own little CCC meet-up at the convention? How cool would that be?!)

I'll leave you with one more shot here.....

    31. Hi, that is Kana in autumnmoon, Kaye cut the bangs a bit.
The others are Reiya (the white) and another kana that is sold out. The elf is wearing Jojo in black, jojo in auburn/blonde and Yuri in blonde
Kaye just restyles them a bit

    32. Ok...since I've only had one BJD before...and I'm pretty new to all this...
Does anyone know if Annabella will come with a stand? Or should I buy one?
Which type is better, saddle stand, waist type...??? Can anyone give me some pointers , pretty please?? :nowords:

    33. Rivermyst, I like both saddle and waist stands. A saddle stand feels more secure, but sometimes it doesn't really work under clothes (fitted dresses, for example), or it bunches up pants if it's on the outside, so I use waist stands then.

I like to have my dolls in natural poses, lounging etc. in groups. If they're standing they are either propped against something or in a stand -- even if they stand rock solid. If they're in a stand, I can also bend a leg and make the pose look like there's more movement.

My old house has floors that sometimes bounce - and I'm a klutz. All it takes is breaking one elf ear to make you a fan of stands forever <g>.

You can spend megabucks on stands but you don't have to. Michael's sells metal waist stands for about $3 that do the job perfectly, if it's a matter of keeping your doll upright. I've also bought stands from Juju's Dolly Mall and All for a Doll.

    34. They are here!!!!!!!! I am really pleased with them. They stand alone very well and pose nicely. Lovely resin and all the seams are sanded :D

      Don't look ^^
      [IMG]
      WHO is the boss? ^^
      [IMG]
      Waving bye-bye ^^
      OK .. measurements ..
      Height .. 45cm
      bust .. 19cm
      waist ... 15.5cm
      hips ... 20.5cm
across shoulder without arms .. 7.5cm
across shoulder including arms .. 10cm
      shoulder to wrist .. 13.5
Side waist to ankle .. 25
      waist to floor .. 27.5
inside leg to ankle .. 18.5
inside leg to floor .. 20.5
      length of foot .. 5.7
      width of foot .. 2.7

She fits the MSD size shoes I have perfectly.

    35. On doll stands, I strongly advise not to use the metal stands from craft shops. Those stands are meant for much lighter weight doll and can tip very easily if the doll slumps or if it is lightly bumped. Metal stand are good for very light weight type dolls. BJD stands that are made for heavier dolls have a heavy base not to tip. So please be careful, this is how I have one doll who has an elf ear missing.

    36. Kaye, thanks so much for the measurements. She'll fit some of my shoes, I hope. All of my other MSDs are 5.5 (or under) and I have shoes that just fit them. But I also have some shoes that are really too big for them, so it will be nice to put them to better use. And I always love an excuse to buy more shoes!

    37. I agree with Grace - I would either get stands from a BJD company, or a seller who makes them specifically for these dolls. There is a very nice girl on Ebay who makes very good and strong, adjustable wooden stands.

    38. Hi Rivermyst, yes the girls have gone into production. Once made each doll will then be hand painted to look like Kaye's dolls. Kaye sent painted heads for them to have a visual. This is very exciting for all of us.

    39. Grael and Kaye - I'm going to voice some paranoia here - do the folks doing the painting understand that the painted heads are more than just a "guide" and they need to be as exact a duplicate as possible?

I ran into a problem not long ago with some dolls I'd ordered from one of the larger, supposedly more reputable companies, where the prototypes were adorable, but the delivered products were painted with a heavier hand. And when I complained, I was told that each artist had their own style and that the company was not responsible if the dolls were a bit different. A bit different I could have lived with, but I got a doll with racoon eyes and about twice as much paint on her as was necessary. We were able to resolve things in the end, more or less, but I will not be ordering face-ups from that company again. I like relatively light soft face-ups and that's just so easy for an artist to mess up.

I know what we all love about Annabella is everything Kaye has done with her, exactly as Kaye has done it. I just want to make sure that the factory doing the face-ups understands this, and doesn't take artistic license with the finished product.

Yes, I admit it's paranoia creeping in. I just want her to be perfect!!

      kat

    40. Hi Kat,
I completely understand and Grace has told the factory the faceups need to be exacty the same ... we have even told then we would prefer them to take a little longer to get them right rather than have them arrive in a rush and not be have them perfect.
      :D Kaye

    41. LOL Gatodelsol LOL!!!!!

Yeah, I mean what is my deal with a tiny needle and ONE piece of thread???! You would think I could do that, but I dont know what it is, I just cant seem to get motivated enough?!

Then there was the saga of the 1 Hitty dress I made on my vintage Singer Featherlight - it took me 12 hours with my husbands help trying to decipher what the pattern might have been meaning, and there was fabric snippets all over our poor host families kitchen when they woke up the next morning and we were still hard at work on opus 1 which was a dress for a 6 inch doll.........???!!!!

Ok so maybe cuffs and poofy sleeves and collars and gathered skirts - OMG, it burnt me out utterly.

My hat is off to all seamstresses! I am in awe of your work every single one of you!

Me and patterns and measure this, and measure that - ARGH!

But for some reason I really do like crochet and knitting, and its very forgiving of my pattern discombobulation.

So ok the knitting and crochet patterns are via this link - I think there is some actual MSD stuff, but for how to adapt, I think we will need to ask on the actual knitting thread

Here is the patterns thread http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124743

Wow and here is the Knitting thread - tons of patterns I never noticed before at the start of this thread!
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283018

    42. Gracefaerie has a new pattern, #44 Seasons for Seola, sized for the Dollstown elf body. I've compared the measurements and they are VERY close, particularly since the pattern isn't fitted at the bottom (DT Elf hip is 2 cm bigger). DT shoulder is only 1 cm bigger.

I suspect the only truly necessary adjustment would be in the length of the dress, because the DT Elf body is 8cm taller. I really like the pattern and it's the first one I'm going to try for Annabella. Info is here: http://www.gracefaerie.com/patterns/pattern44.html . DDE and other stores carry Grace's patterns.

    43. I don't think she is yet, waiting to see if the DT elf one can be adapted. The MSD pattern (which is what Nancie is working on) will be too small and I think she'll be changing the proportions . . . I've lost the note that had the specifics on it but what people wanted was a pattern for a Narae-type mature mini, which would NOT translate well at all to Kaye's body. . .Then after that, an SD version.

I'm going to try the DT Elf pattern on Annabella when she gets here, I'll let you know how it goes. Surely it will be easier than my (ultimately futile) attempts this week to adapt a Planetdoll-specific pattern to a really skinny MSD with boobs, sigh. . .

    44. OH, and PS. Grace, are you going to be posting your pattern for the strapless sundress on Jpop? I really like that one, it shows off her long waist. And it REALLY shows off that beautiful material you had.

    45. Hi, yes I will get my pattern up this weekend. we have been so busy getting packages out as everyone wants their things for the holidays. I have been working weekends and have not even done laundry. You should see what I am wearing, people will start offering me change soon, lol.

Yes Gracefarie is making one for Annabella, I will be shipping a body there before the dolls get here. I will also carry that pattern.

    46. [IMG]

We have 2 feet now that picture was of 18 inches. I wish I was in Australia!

    47. Welcome Nadia, Merry Christmas to you, we have rain here.

Oh BTW; just want to let everyone know that the Cutie Kriss Kross shoes fit her well, and come in loads of colors to match lots of outfits

    48. Thought you would all enjoy my Annabella girls
      [IMG]

    49. Grace, I didn't know you had 3. I do also or at least I will. 2 elf and a human just like you except one elf is a boy. Did anyone else get a boy annabelle or is Liam all by himself? Because he makes a very handsome boy which is truly strange because Annabelle is such a gorgeous girl!

    50. I think Liam may be an only boy, I have Kaye's original head, then the 2 factory pre-production samples.

Yes I will be sharing many patterns for Annabella, I have a lot of them. I will also be making 1 original outfit of each pattern for sale for anyone who does not sew. So once I grab a new scanner ( they are really cheap now) I will get them up and going. And if my webmaster is not available, I will email them to all who ask until she is, Christmas is coming and she may not want to work, lol.

    51. Merry Christmas Everyone,
I will get patterns up over the weekend, but wanted to wish you all blessings and magic of the season.

    52. Grace, I see Sage, Pip, Pepper, Nettle, and 2 of your Annabelles. But who are the 2 elves behind the Annabelles? LOVE the picture. I wish there were more pictures from everyone,(please) it helps the wait. I hope everyone had a safe holiday.

    53. Thank you everyone, I love Kaye's work, can you tell, lol.

62kitty, those are Maya and Matilda by Kaye and oh that is not Pepper (she is human and not in with the elves) That is Poppy by Kaye. It took a long time to get all these girls but I was determined. I have Pepper and Mallory too!

I will post more of Annabella for all those waiting to make the wait easier.

Also just wanted to let all know, so far factory is on time and we are looking good. So it will not be long for everyone now.

    54. Hi everyone, my webmaster Aisy will upload the pattern and instructions tonight, I finally finished it. I had to redo the shoes to fit the Kaye body, so I hope everyone likes it. So it should be up when you all awake in the morning and for our international friends, she should have it up soon. Sorry it took so long. I will have another pattern up in a few more days too. Next is a coat and hat. I will create an entire wardrobe for out girls. Have fun and let's see some of your work!
      Hugs
      Grace

      Here is a photo.

    55. Kissyfacegirl, I believe all the girls are spoken for, but grael can confirm (one human came available a short time ago, but I'm quite certain she was snatched up immediately). Sorry for both you and mojomaca that you missed her! :(

Good news, though, re: future releases from Kaye! Have you read the article at BJDCollectasy re: Annabella? (http://www.bjdcollectasy.com/articles/annabellas-journey.html)
With this new collaboration, KW lovelies should be available more frequently in the future!

    56. Hi, yes all girls are gone now.
For future dolls, please register with jpopdolls.net . Except for the occasional one-off Kaye may want to do for auction, all dolls will be sold through the site. We won't do a mailing list like we did with Annabella, instead the dolls will be offered for pre-order on the site only. Heads up (no pun intended) but a new doll is on the horizon as we speak!!

    57. Abby agreed to model for me
