Katie Blair's Wig dye used on doll wigs! with pictures!

May 12, 2005

    1. Tonight I took three wigs and dyed them with Katie Blair's wig dye.

IMPORTANT: I rinsed these suckers like there was no tomorrow. When I thought they were clean I put them in a white sink with a little water stopped in it. I put the wig in and swished it. If the water was discolored I kept on rinsing!

Then I noticed that some of the wigs felt super dry. I had a combination wig conditioner and shampoo- I couldn't find my spray in stuff. So... I dumped the wigs in a sink full of shampoo-conditioner. ALL THE EXCESS COLOR RINSED OUT!!! It was like magic! o_o;; THe wigs rinsed perfectly clean after that. The stuff I had was generic... so I don't know how it'll work on anything else. I got it at Sally's... :S Who knows if this will work again, I'm certainly not swearing by it... but just so you know. :3

      Here are the results!

Wig #1: Blonde Shiwoo Elf Default wig so Luts? brand?

      Hair type: Very dry

This wig took the the dye like a MAGNET. I used the cherry red on it and it turned out a lovely shade of pinkish cherry. The wig is still soft too, and less dry! The wig was really beat up, it was Ghaleon's first wig and got totally trashed from that.

Wig #2: Poshdolls? Copper blonde crimped mix

hair type: Very silky and nice!

I'm not sure if this is a poshdolls wig or not. It sure looks like it, but the person I bought it from wasn't sure. It was a really nice wig, but the color makes it look very dry? I don't know how to describe it. Anyway, I decided to experiment on it because of the mix of different hair colors. I actually sprayed both the cherry red and the grey in the hair. WOW. What a difference it made! You can't tell as well here, but the wig has a lot of pop to it that it didn't have before. It's still silky soft too! BTW- use a detangler comb on curly wigs when dying them... else you're going to have a hard time getting the comb through.

      Wig #3

      Volks Wig, milk/white color

      Hair type: Dry and fried

This was another person's first default wig. It was lovingly cared for, but it was pretty messy. I got it for an experiment wig. Notice that there's no picture? That's because IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! I used the grey-black dye and at first it was just a streaky grey. Then I did the whole blow dry thing, still grey-black. Then I rinsed it in plain cold water... It turned PINK! PINK! HUGE sections didn't turn any color at all but rinsed clean! Then the underside was a nice shade of dark grey. After the final rinse in the wig conditioner/shampoo... it turned a delightful shade of... extremely light pink- but mostly white. I'm not even going to bother with the picture because my camera wouldn't even pick up the color!

      End Results?

Satisfied. I love the way the cherry wig and the curly one turned out. Especially the curly one. I wish I'd done a better job of cutting the cherry one, but hey, it was my first time cutting a wig at that point!

I don't know why the volks wig did what it did. I can't afford a fresh new perfect volks wig to try anything on them. I am thinking it partly may have been the black dye- someone else said that they'd gotten a dye from Katie that hadn't worked at all. Maybe I didn't shake it well enough? I don't know. It seemed to work fine on the coppery wig tho. There are patches that are definately darker.
