20–39cm Dolls Kabbit! - My first BJD 4 years in the making!

    1. You may have seen my design around as I've been posting it on Instagram and such since last year... but..

      I've FINALLY been able to 3D Print my Kabbit! in resin instead of PLA and they look SO COOL....! I plan on making lots lots more, I know there are a lot of folks here who make BJDs, if you ever need help with elbows/knees or other parts, lmk! I'm happy to share the joints I've developed to save you time! :) Do you like the smaller hands, or larger hands better?

    2. Such a cutie!
      A genuine curious question from a traditional artist: How do you create well enginered joint when working digitally? What I mean is, when I make a joint I will test string and make adjustments as needed while sculpting. Some joints are strung, restrung and adjusted a large number of times and since it's all physical parts right there it's not a separate step or anything, it's fully integrated in the process and I can test for friction, weight, pivot point placement and everything as I go. But how do you do it when sculpting without the physical parts? Like, is there a trick to it or do you just develop a feel for it with enough experience?
      I've seen a lot of digital sculpters who seem to just make the pretty shapes and hope for the best, but most of those projects never gets finished and to be fair, I've seen the same optimistic approach to engineering from traditional sculptors plenty of times. And I have seen very nice examples of finished projects with good engineering from both mediums so it's clearly possible. I just can't wrap my head around what the process looks like.

      It honestly depends on the medium you’re printing in. Resin prints have some shrinkage, PLA doesnt really.

      I’ve just kind of learned it from Experience as well as Donn Kinneys tutorials on his patreon!
      When I sculpt I’ll rotate the joint from a pivot point to test it and make sure there’s enough range of motion! I honestly just got REALLY lucky with my 4th knee joint and struck gold. It fits and works perfectly, it’s highly inspired by VOLKS and Dollpamm, but has a peg.

      I just reuse that knee joint for ALL my models now! ((I even sell the joint for like $2 for other digital artists to use))

      I’m happy to share the things I’ve developed to inspire and encourage more BJDs! :D

      I’ll test print the knees obviously as well, and decide if it needs to be wider, taller, etc. I went through 3 knee variations for Kabbit before finally making one that works perfectly!

      but mostly it’s guess work and test prints!
