a BJD in a MOVIE or VIDEO?

Apr 16, 2007

    1. I was watching an Asian Horror movie called Cinderella, and in one of the scenes a girl was having a birthday party and she got a doll for her birthday, it looked like it belonged to the Dream of Doll line up. His eyes were like that of Homme Duncan and Kirill.

I'm going to go to a friends house as soon as possible, so he can capture the images.

Have you ever seen a BJD in a movie?

    3. I don't know about movies, but the super dollfie is one of the main features of the manga Fairy Cube by Kaori Yuki, one of the characters, a man, has one and uses it to disguise the fairy of the title
she's shown on the cover of book 2

    4. I actually started a thread a whille ago on here about BJDs in the live action Death Note movie. They were artist made dolls I believe, but Misa Misa had a bunch all over her bedroom.

    5. There's a Korean horror film (I.. guess it was horror? It wasn't very scary. xD) called "Bunshinsaba," and one of the characters had a Dollmore doll sitting on her desk. You couldn't really tell what doll it was, because it was only shown from afar in one scene, but it was there. ;>

    6. WARNING~~~ SPOILERS on some threads

So I was watching this really sick and twisted chinese.. or maybe japanese movie with my brother and his friend the other day. (Honestly I dont think too many of you will be interested in watching this movie. Its.. disturbing.. Hostel, Saw 3, The Hills Have eyes, type of disturbing.) Although I dont think anyone will want to watch this movie, at least the first 2 segments, I do think that people will be happy to know that BJDs are making their way out into the movie world after doll master.

Anyways the movie is made up of 3 different stories, which deals with Irony. The first segment I think alot of people will be disturbed so just skip that one if you want. It deals with eating.. really creepy things and I assure you wont want to eat meet for a very long time. The second one, is disturbing as well, and makes you think a bit, theres lots of blood in this one.

BUT, keep skipping and skipping until you get to the last episode. I really enjoyed this one and theres No Blood, or anything gory. This has to do with twins, and a circus. This is where the BJD makes its appearance. This doll doesnt look like any doll that I know of, but I can tell it is indeed a BJD. Its only like 5mins worth of seeing her too, but hey shes in it, heheh. I think alot of you will like the last episode. Its a bit scary so if you cant handle scariness, hehe this is most definately not the movie. The movie isnt about the BJD, so I dont want to give any false hope now. heh.

Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that yay I saw another BJD in a movie. YAY! Not that too many of you will want to see it hahaha. Just saying is all.

The movie is called The 3 Extremes for those who are interested, and have the stomach for gore, ghost, and demons.

    7. I love movies like that (I'm a big time horror fan and movies that get under your skin are way better than movies that just make you jump a little due to loud sudden music). I'm going to have to see if I can find it and spot the doll!

    8. I believe it's a collaboration of Korean, Japanese and Chinese work. The Japanese section is probably the one with the doll in.

    9. hehe, in the 'Death note" live action movie (part2) there are BJD's in Misa's bedroom, although they are just in the background, i thought it was cool.

    10. 3 Extremes has a BJD in it? XD

Wellhey, more excuse for me to see it.

      [/Extreme Asian Cinema fan.]

    11. There's another Chinese movie called "Spider Lilies". I didn't think the movie was good though, but Raine Yang has a BJD:

Movie Plot (taken from Yahoo!): ***spoilers alert***
Jade (Rainie Yang) is a webcam exhibitionist who visits a tattoo parlour looking for a sexy decoration to excite her clients. She requests for a spider-lily tattoo similar to the one framed at the tattoo parlour but the female tattoo artist, Takeko [Isabella Leong], is reluctant to accede to her request. Visiting Jade's website, Takeko finds out that they knew each other 10 years ago when Jade had a crush on her.

    12. I saw Cinderella it was an interesting movie and Spider lilies!

    13. Haha i want to see all these horror movies but Im a chiken...my best friend is a pillow :)

And theres a BJD in Death Note I got to re watch that XD

    14. Along time ago, I rented a movie from blockbuster, and it was a really B-rated japanese movie, and it was about a young couple, and there were these dolls that would make them go crazy.

I'm not POSITIVE they were bjds because I didn't even know what a bjd was back then, but when I think about it, they were about the same size, and looks alot like em.

    15. So this past weekend I attended Anime Expo (lots of fun at the meets...thanks guys!), But on saturday I wasted the entire day watching both of the Death Note movies. (Both amazing..wasted like....6 hours though. XD)

In one scene, Misa is in her bedroom writing in the deathnote I think...Or on the phone. Anyway, there's a chair in the background with two 60-70 cm girls sitting on it. In another scene when she's on her bed, there was another one sitting on her windowsill. Anyone get screenshots?

    16. Man it's kind of a bummer when BJDs/Dolls are featured in movies, they almost always end up the "bad guys"...scaring people, murdering, etc... (like the "Chucky" movies). I can't get my one niece to like the BJDs I have because she's been scared by the Scary Doll movies LOL

I think it's neat when dolls/bjds would be the heroes or help the heroes in movies. Why can't there be more "heroic" dolls in movies than "scary" ones??

    17. I haven't seen any movies with BJDs, but I know in the PV tremolo by Plastic Tree, they used a mix of a BJD and a real child to be the singer Ryutarou's 'younger self' it was creepy watching it move o_O go go stop animation.

    18. I watched a Korean horror called Wishing Stairs... it had a couple artist made bjds.. and alot of other dolls (baby dolls and such) but there was two big bjd... maybe sd sized? but I believe they were artist made because their faces didn't look like any other type of mold I know of.

    19. the other day I saw a film q is called to SPIDER LILIES and the protagonist has one bjd and one blythe

    20. Yesterday for Friday the 13th they were showing a movie that makes fun of the movie "Scream" called "Shriek" and throughout the movie I noticed that the giant doll they were talking to was a life-size BJD. PaperMoon perhaps?

    21. haha i was just about to post about the doll master movie! im in korea right now with my friend and im watching it right now X_X !! so freaky!! but seriously some of the people ask for it XD !!

edit: i repeat again the main character is an idiot! the end made me cry.

    22. Im now watching the deathnote movies to try and find them xD; their in the first movie? or second?

    23. I own 2 movies containing BJD's
The one is Three extremes - which has been mention - it's a custommade doll so no brand on that one, but it was there x'P
Wishing Stairs 1 - I think - also contains scene with BJD's made to look like one of the characters, I wasen't able to see if it was custommade or a brand.

Yeah I'm a horrorfreak -especially when it comes to Asian movies haha, and often they contain BJD's in the forground or background

    24. There's also a BJD in the Korean movie starring Super Junior. It's something like Attack on the Pin Up Boys or some similiar title. It's at the very beginning and this really pretty boy gets all these presents from his fangirls, one of which is a BJD that looks just like him.

So, it's not a horror and there's BJDs!

    25. wow... i almost bought cinderella a few weeks ago... now i'm definitely a lot more interested. :)

    26. Wow im watching this movie (Cinderella) right now and just saw him so i was gonna go post on DoA... lmao.. but yeah. i was pretty suprised i was like "Woah!"
anyone know what doll it was?

xD theres starting to pop up all over now xD

      i also just watched Super Junior movie, the other day.. but i didnt like the movie D;
still dunno what doll that was xD

    27. Yeah, I'm not much of a Super Junior fan either, but one of my best friends LOVES them, and is now planning to buy the movie; so I'll try to check the credits when ever she gets it. :3

    28. Ooh, ooh, ooh! I HAVE that movie :o
I've never seen very far into it, but now I have to watch it. and then I'll probably scream and call my sister and yell into the reciever :D "OMG JESS!!! THERE ARE ASIAN BALL JOINTED DOLLS IN DEATHNOTE!!!!!!!!!" and then she'll watch it and scream and scare her boyfriend. Or get annoyed at me for yelling into the reciever.:...(

      Yay!!!

    29. I've seen them in The Wishing Stairs and Death Note... and this other TERRIBLE movie my mother rented one time. I think it was a Japanese film. It looked promising, but boy, was I wrong. I actually cried at the end simply because I was devestated at how stupid it was.

It was about this crazy man who made real people into BJDs. See? Sounds like a cool idea, but... god, it's only an hour long, but honestly, I felt like I had been watching it for three hours. I wish I could remember the title...

    30. I did some photo comparisons (naver.movies refuses to let me link images tho).

      Conclusion:
The bjd in Cinderella is DoD's Wi
The one in Super Junior's Attack on the Pin-up Boys is Volks' Isao Nanjou.

    31. XD I had just started a thread on this, didn't know about this one. Anyways, my favorite manga artist, Junji Ito, did a horror manga called Marronnier where a guy created an invention that turns women into BJDs that he controls and uses them to kill people with. Kind of a Japanese Chucky without the humor. And it was made into a movie.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n4atHO-OlI

    32. are BJDs ever not in horror films? XD cant they be in some cute movie ; ;

    33. There is: Attack on the Pin-up Boys, starring every member of the Korean band Super Junior (minus Kyuhyun, who was still recovering from a car accident some were in). They're even wearing matching outfits! :D

      :hamster:
      Tacti

    34. >o> That concludes it, I'm going to try my hardest to make a CUTE FLUFFY BJD story.

      • x 1
    35. XD There's a couple episodes of Midori Days involving dolls, figures and character puppets. One guy mistakes Midori at first for an Obitsu type doll.

    36. What ever happened to the american version of Dollmaster? Did that ever come out and if so did they use bjds or lol american girl dolls?
I liked dollmaster since bjds has such a huge part in the movie but another korean film called "WISHING STAIRS" has a Bjd cameo in it.

    37. Hmm, I saw one movie with a really freaky looking BJD, it was called "Reincarnation." I don't remember it all that much, but I remember it was really good. And the creepy little girl and her doll added a good touch, let me see if I can get a picture of the doll. I couldn't tell what type of BJD it was on the other hand...seeing that the face was destroyed...and I am still learning...

    38. I had forgotten about that doll. I saw the movie in the theatre.

    39. Here's one that isn't a movie - but it isn't scary either:

In the Korean drama 'hardtack teacher and sugar candy' one of the students owns a bjd and is in most of the episodes. :)

    40. I'm pretty sure that was a porcelain doll.

    41. If it's not porcelain it's definitely an artists one. Her body proportions aren't really like most BJDs.

    42. Well, I don't think it was porcelain, I can't remember her very well in the movie, but she IS meant to be a BJD, but I think it is an artist one due to, hey, movie budget, making one is probably cheaper than buying one from a name brand company.

    43. BJDs don't usually come with sound boxes. I have the movie and watch it regularly, it was a play doll for a little girl, it may have not been porcelain, but it wasn't a BJD. It was more of a baby doll than anything else.

    44. The movie is Japanese, not Korean; or at least, it takes place in Japan, and is directed by the same man that directed the Grudge and Grudge 2; Takashi Shimizu. I don't think a Japanese film-maker would make a Korean film in Japan.

The movie is also very far from low budget; camera work and effects were very well done. The doll speaks, just like an American baby doll would. The only thing that could possibly classify it as a ball jointed doll is the scene in which it walks, at which point the doll is posessed.

    45. Some good movies mentioned here! Dollmaster, I love it. Seeing all those dolls makes me melt in a puddle of resin goodness.
3 extremes I have wanted to see for ages and now even more. I love blood and gore and dolls. Cinderella, I will be finding too. Looks interesting.
Death Note movie great! I will watch it, I have a vcd of it.

    46. I would love to know more movies that aren't horror that the dolls may be seen in >.< im never sitting through any of the horror ones even if it is to see a doll >.<

    47. I just noticed Reincarnation there I loved that film xD.

    48. It may not have been a brand bjd, but it was constructed like a bjd, ball and socket joints and strung from what I remember.

    49. That's awesome! I wanna see that movie! XD

lol I wouldn't say those were bjds. They looked more like regular western babydolls. XD Ugly puffed cheeks and puckered lips like they'd been stung in the face by a few bees.

Can we get this thread back on topic please?

I don't know where you could just watch or download, sorry. I bought it and that's how I stumbled upon the whole BJD thing. You can buy it, however, at amazon.com.

    50. Another horror movie, but, Wishing Stairs has one of indeterminable(at least to me) origin.

    51. BJDs showed up in the anime Paprika; one of the characters was into them. It was sort of neat to see.

    52. Jade and I watched Reincarnation not even two weeks ago, making the film fresh in the mind.

The doll is never once shown disassembled; it always has the same outfit on. So exactly what proof or "special" copy of the movie did you see where the doll is shown taken apart? The closest you see to the inside of the doll is when the eye is smashed in, and the eye still rests in the crater.

I will admit that it did have joints; it had joints along the same line that a Barbie doll has joints. The arms and legs could move; but so can those on a $5.00 Spider Man action figure. Are those BJDs, according to your judgements?

Just for clarification, the movie you're talking about is Reincarnation, or Rinne, right? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0456630/

    53. My god, no need to get so snappy. My dolls never wear anything different and I've never taken them apart. You don't have to see a doll in pieces to know it's a BJD. Maybe I just misremembered, I saw the damn movie in November of 2006 in the theatre for Christ's sake.
I mostly just recall thinking back then "OMG, BJD". Her face at the very least looks like a bjd's.
I was just looking back over it on Youtube. Roughly 13 minutes into the film you can see a part where the little girl picks the doll up, you can see the jointed wrist and the arm bends at the elbow when she lifts it and it creaks like a resin doll, NOT a soft plastic baby doll. The facial sculpt is a bit odd and it's big for little kid proportions, but it IS a strung doll, you can tell if you look at the different signs.

    54. Alright, the arguing in this thread is off-topic, and furthermore we have discussed this point enough, so please. No more about it and let's move on to other movies that have BJDs in them, please.

Also, NecrochildK, I mean no offence, but I'd apprieciate it if you wouldn't be so negative to the other people posting their findings, or opinions in this thread.

That should go for everyone without saying, though.

    55. ohhhh that's soo cool! those dollies must have an exciting life! OH, and i just watched death note live part 2, and there's most def. bjd's in misa's room like the other said, i'm pretty sure their artist made, but nevertheless, cool! their just hanging around different spots, too awesome. :)
