So I've been wanting to make some harem jewelry for Esme, inspired by some of the threads here. There was a decent sale at work (mind you, I get the same percentage off using my employee discount, but whatever) and they FINALLY set the POG for some very beautiful chains, so I was finally able to start working on this. I was sick yesterday and as the day went by, decided to at least do something productive. I've got this so far: Close-up The big picture! (and an excuse to show off him being sexy? I dunno) It's not much, but it's a start. It's not PERFECT, but I'm kinda feeling around in the dark here. I've got some beautiful metal accents, but since work is a bit low on the beads I'd like to use, I have to go make a trip up to the Heights and visit the local independent bead store. Any suggestions on colors? I was thinking some amber or gold tones might look nice with his skin tone and either blue or red to pick up the color of his eyes or the streak in his hair, just for some pop. Maybe all three? I'm not sure. I'd take him with me, but it's hard to look at beads with an armful of dollfie. I usually need both hands for that. Plus, I've seemed to have temporarily misplaced his travel blanket... hrm...
It is very cute. But with necklaces, I worry that the sharp edges created when you cut the wires will scratch the resin >_< (How do you get around it?)
I worry about that too, to be honest XD But, I just make sure that everything is completely closed. I don't know about anyone else. It'd be a paint to solder everything shut. >.o But really... if it doesn't scratch human skin at all, I'd think that resin would be safe from. But what little I have done hasn't scratched him yet, so maybe that's a good sign? ^.^
Oh yes... I know. XD I have that site favorited... but for this first venture I thought I'd buy stuff I found around here... I save that place for when I get more serious about it. *nods* Mostly because I'm afraid I won't know when to stop. XD
Finished a bit more. ^.^ It's a bit tangled, but there it is! I just want to add a couple more strands and I'll have it set.. just need to add beads to it and some other accents. Still a bit stumped on what colors I want though, any suggestions?
Finished! After staying up all night cursing at it, I've got most of it done! I just need to add a couple of details, but there it is! ^.^ It's obviously not perfect, but uh... not too bad for not knowing what I'm doing? ^.^;;;
It takes practice when working on items that small. It will get easier the more you do. If you are planning on making them to sell invest in quality pliers with rubberized hand grips. You have better control with them. I'd go with amber and copper colored beads, to me they are more exotic.
oh wow, that's gorgeous. If you're asking for suggestions on bead colours I'd say either blue to go with his eyes, or else some amber and red beads. He looks great in that though.
Beautiful! As for beads, I'd go with red, blue, or green. Amber seems like it'd blend too much with the chains. But I wouldn't know for certain. If you think it'd look good then go for it :3
Thanks for the suggestions! ^.^ Oh.. I always loved the colors of peacock feathers I think I'll keep that in mind for maybe not this one.. but another, if I make one. *nods*
I finally got to the bead store today and was able to add one last finishing touch! Sadly, the pictures do no justice to either of the beads, both are absolutely gorgeous in real life. I may end up making a belt out of the other supplies, since I still have plenty of beads and chains left. It certainly isn't perfect, the eye pin gave me some issues. I still have plenty to learn, but I'm still quite proud of it. ^.^
Very very nice. If you ever do another piece, and looking for reds or ambers, I might suggest using Tiger-eye, either the gold or red variety depending on which way you wanna go.
Worked on another piece inspired by some of the asymmetrical necklaces that seem to be rather popular as of late. Simpler than my first piece, just to try a different style. Used some pieces I already owned and two different kinds of chains just to see how it would look.
Oooh, that's interesting! I really like the pearl on it :3 What's the other thing hanging down, between the pretty stone and pearl? *feels like an idiot for not being able to figure out*
I like the different chains being used (at least from what I can tell). Is it pre-made chain, or links you've put together?
both chains are premade.. I don't have the patience to make my own . I actually waited about a month for work to set the endcap those chains were suppose to be on (I work at a craft store). It felt forever.
Heh. Cool - was asking because I do chainmail, so actual chain ends up looking a bit different. Nice contrast though, makes you take a second look, which can hopefully only be to the good.
Thanks? XD I have a couple of friends who do chainmail. Personally, I don't think I have the patience. I barely have the patience for what I do. XD I liked the outcome of mixing the two chains together though. I think they turned out well.
Heh. Definately meant as a compliment, even if I can't spell. And patience need to apply. Insanity and patience required. Oy.
File the end of the wire and/or place a small bead of epoxy at the end of the wire. If it was precious metal, then you could flame the end into a small bead with a torch or join wire ends with solder. Take off the sharps, because they will scratch resin. Trying to scratch your skin is not a valid test. HTH Jeff blackicepond.deviantart.com
Thanks for the advice! I actually haven't had any of the jewelry scratch him yet (trust me, if it was going to, it would by now, that stuff has slid across his skin enough with just moving him around), and there really isn't any wire I've cut.. just premade chains and jump rings that I make sure are fully closed and even. Only thing I've cut are the eye pins, which are also completely closed. Mind you, I could still be wrong. I'll look into it. ^.^
Here's a couple of hasty pictures of my newest piece. It's a bit more complicated than the last. Currently undergoing some reorganization of things, so I'll be quiet for a little while. If this piece is sold, I'd be selling it at a discount due to a flaw in the pearl. When working on the eye pin, I accidentally chipped it. ^.^; But other than that, I really like how it turned out.
Pretty! I like the contrast of the pearl standing out from the rest and blue/pink bead blending with the rest :3
Your stuff is gorgeous! I like your most recent one best. Almost makes me want a boy so he could run around shirtless with chains. XD
Thanks! I hope to at least get a third piece finished and ready to sell. I don't have a usable Paypal account just yet, so that's slowing me up too... if i were to sell this stuff now I could only take check, or money order (cash if the person is reeeeally brave).
I would stay away from too much brown in the neclace... he has so much brown in him between the faceup and tanning skin.
