I have just been blown away by this collaboration since it first started. The dolls thus far they are just amazing. The only thing I can think of that I would wish for if I could change anything about them is for them have inset eyes like most other fashion resin BJD's do. Some of the JamieShow dolls do but the Odom dolls theirs are painted for some reason. The dolls themselves are all hand painted individually. They just had a convention and this was the Odom collection. It's called Hollywood Canteen and I have say I'm just drooling. I'd buy the whole bunch if I could afford them. I am a long time collector of these dolls in vinyl and I've been seriously coveting the resin ones but I always told myself "No" when it came to actually buying one. As you guys know from reading my posts I don't casually spend $500 plus on one doll. That's like 2 SD sized resin dolls for me. Maybe 3 if we are talking Miro dolls. I usually consider dolls at that level beyond my budget, period, no matter how much I might admire them. I have a couple of heads off dolls like that but I've done hybrids to keep them from costing that. I've seriously drooled over some doll like this, the Chic dolls, the Dollmore 16" dolls and yes, some of JamieShow's own fashion dolls. I never thought I'd pop for one though. But then I saw this collection and I just fell like a ton of bricks for HC Madra. She reminds me a lot of Color Deal Madra, an IT Madra I really love and own only she's even more darling, she's a BJD, she's resin. I've always wondered even before JS teamed up with Mel Odom what a resin Madra would look like. So far the dolls of her they have done have been stunning, but I still wasn't prepared to pay the equivalent of a month's rent for one. Hollywood Canteen Madra though, she got me. I put her on my credit card and I'm making payments it looks like for at least the rest of the year on her. I don't plan on doing this one again. No matter how magnificent the new JS Odom dolls are my budget can't hack buying $500 plus dolls regularly. But I am not sorry I bought this Madra. She is just a dolly work of art, she really is... This is the whole gang. I think this whole collection it's just really outstanding design work. As a group I think they are just all wonderful dolls but in this collection I think the Madra doll really is the best. She totally stands out this girl and I am so glad I found out about her in time to get her this way. She's going to go up in value the minute she sells out definitely. A year from now I won't be able to afford her at all probably. It won't be long either. These dolls usually don't last long, even at these prices... There are more pics on the JamieShow site if you want to look. The new Violet dolls are just lovely and I really like this Trent too. They did Cary Grant too just for this collection. They have a Marlene Dietrich inspired doll as well and she's just WOW. JS makes me wish I was rich, lol. I think I'd buy every doll they make if I was able to. I'm going to have to invest in a nice case for Madra too. This doll deserves one of her own, I think.... Welcome to JAMIEshow Doll USA -
They are beautiful, my mom used to collect the regular vinyl , but these dolls are way over her budget also
I am going to have to go check these out~ I was mostly collecting Mel Odom vinyls in the 90s before I got into BJDs and my favorite was one of my Madras. She was a Turbulence and I just happened to get #1 in the series. We had this great FAO Schwartz downtown that had the best fashion doll department. Memories~
I decided this was a once in a lifetime thing for me and I actually put Trent on my card too. I've got the limit available and I like the idea of the pair. Madra and Trent was always my favorite pairing. He's supposed to be a big playboy and has romanced several of Mel's ladies, but his first pairing was with Madra and I always liked how they looked together. I thought they were all beautiful and if I could I'd buy the whole lot. Madra AND Trend is pushing it, but I want to be able to so some serious photo work with these dolls and having a vinyl Trent with a resin Madra would look rather weird. The resin dolls are a whole other thing and they look quite different when paired with their older non-resin counterparts. I do like Trent in vinyl, have two a blond and a brunette, but I think he's really dreamy in resin. In this material you get why he was supposed this big male movie star. He's got such a nice look to him and of course the articulation totally kicks it compared to AD and IT's versions of Trent. The body is about 100% better from what I've seen. Overall the JS version is a lot nicer. I've got somebody offering me like $300 for their outfits. I am seriously considering selling them as it would pay a good chunk of the bill off for them. They are just lovely outfits but they're going for a rather nice sum and I guess I don't need to keep them that bad....
I hope they changed how they do the stuff. I have older first run dolls, look for less expensive nudes to pop up if you feel like sewing, and the Gene has discolored terribly. Trent and Madra are hanging in there. The few official outfits I have aren't as good as they could be, snaps and straps fall off, anything rubbery has crumbled. The best part on my end was finding my 1/4 Orientdoll could fit Trent and Tonner boy clothes.
For anybody out there that has one of these resin Genes (or friend), do they fit all the classic outfits just fine? Are the swappable wig caps as great as they seem? I purchased a Bimong Shahti a few years ago to wear my Gene and Franklin Mint fashions, but she swims in them. Since the resin Gene came out, I've been thinking that is the way to go (and maybe sand down the bust a few mms to fit Franklin Mint). Thanks for any feedback you can offer!
