It's been 84 years...

Oct 27, 2022

    1. Actually, I disappeared in 2013, when I had to sell my dolls to make ends meet. But it feels so much longer.

But now that I've returned to the USA and moved back to Colorado, I'm getting back into the hobby! I've missed the doll community so much and look forward to being part of it again locally and online. I used to be very active here as well as in the Colorado community, when Denver Doll Emporium did meet-ups and whatnot! So if any of you were active between 2008-2013 and remember "Summer", that's me!

Anyway, my name is Summer. I'm 33 years old, and I started collecting BJDs when I was 17/18 in 2008. I worked full-time and lived with my parents so I was able to afford the hobby easier (growing up sucks haha :< ) and fell in love with customizing and creating new characters for the dolls. Admittedly I was addicted to Fairyland Minifees, specifically Shiwoos for some reason. Right before I had to sell most of my dolls I got into SOOM (a dangerous brand to love, but they're so beautiful...dangerous due to pricing, I should say. And they come out with dolls often, or at least they used to).

Currently, I have a Bobobie...dragon MSD (I don't remember his name, but he was from 2012 I believe, so not the updated dragon hybrids), and I have a Dream Valley basic Ann 1/6th girl heading my way! (I've been told it takes 6-7 months, but still excited for her!)

I have 2 other dolls that I was gifted from a friend who is leaving the hobby but they're not here yet, so I'll keep them a mystery for now.

Looking forward to meeting new people and actually getting into doing my own faceups and whatnot this time around. Feel free to pop into DMs or reply here to talk! I'm pretty friendly, just maybe a little slow here and there.

    2. Welcome back!! The hobby never truly leaves us :)

    3. Nice to have you back! (I caught your reference lol)

      I'm from Colorado too! :)

    4. LOL insert "I understood that reference!" meme here XD

Welcome back! Your story is fairly similar to mine actually! I was active in the community back from like '07-'09, newly working but living with family lol. Then I had to sell a bunch of my collection later on and fell out of the hobby, and I'm just recently back! It's fun coming back to this hobby after such a long time, though I have to basically re-learn everything it feels like. There's been a lot of changes over the years! It's neat to see which companies are still around vs all the new ones, checking out all the new types of sculpts, etc etc.
I only have four dolls left from back in the day, with a very small wishlist for the future, but I'm enjoying building up their characters again and coming up with ideas. I hope you have fun now that you're back!

    5. Welcome back to the crew.

There are still a few of us around who have Shiwoos. And Soom is still Soom. Which is to say... dangerous.

    6. This is SO TRUE haha, I've been staring at the new dolls coming out for years and pouting over them. I'm hoping to be more involved now as well, so I'm excited!

    7. LOL I think I aged myself with the reference, ngl.

AYEEE coloradan! I love it here. I'm in the Boulder area if you ever come around. My dolls aren't anywhere near presentable since most are naked, nameless and without wigs or makeup...but hopefully they'll start coming together soon!

    8. Yeah it's CRAZY seeing how much everything has changed!! I am sad to see some companies no longer around though. But the new companies are amazing--I've instantly fallen in love with Dream Valley. I've always loved monsters, animals, nekos, those types of things...so they're right up my alley.

I'm also excited to see others dipping into full animal dolls too! and 'hybrids', but SOOM is killing me. The friend who gifted me the two ended up trading some stuff from me for a few more dolls that have been on my wishlist for forever, so now I have a few more to make characters for. It's a little slow-going since I'm hoping to do all the customizations myself, but I'm excited to be here again ^^ If you have any tips and tricks that I need to know...do let me know haha, DMs are always open (For you and anyone else who wants to chat!)

    9. First thing I did was see if Shiwoos were still around...I'll have to get my hands on one to remake my favorite baby from before, though I almost feel guilty 'remaking' him...but I miss him so much.

SOOM is SO DANGEROUS. Especially those hybrid dolls..goodness. There's one (Feny and Necy?) that look like eevee features and I'm not dead set on customizing one into an eevee gijinka of mine. Time to learn to sew and sculpt again!

    10. Hi! Welcome back! Huge Shiwoo fan here, I actually have one of the early Luts MNF Shiwoos from around 2006… he’s so cute ^^
I love Sooms too! Which Soom sculpts do you like?

    11. Hi I’m Jessica, thank you for having me. I’m a homemaker with 3 sweet children. I am saving up for either a Conarium Eve or a Dollmore Trinity dress up Edna doll. I haven’t quite made up my mind but I think I am almost fully leaning towards purchasing the Conarium Eve doll. I really like her design and her face is very pretty,❤️In fact, I probably should just save for Both! I love both dolls‍. I already have been looking for outfits and wigs for my future Conarium Eve doll because I’m so obsessed lol. I’m always looking at the Dollmore website as well checking to see if Edna is still available. I like reading the forums here and seeing pictures. I’m happy to be apart of this community and can’t wait to show a picture of my own big beautiful doll when the time comes❤️
