Console games, anime... 1/6 dolls and then BJD. I like collecting plushies too. I learned tarot myself for hobby. It is good for telling advice to someone.
I’ve started collecting Disney dolls. And accidentally find out about BJDs. I also collect Funkos and Amiibos and mugs
BJD is my new hobby. I am also in love with kimono collection, anime figure/statue collection, anime, DIY, etc. they keep me busy and occupied which is a good thing. I will consider them equally weighted for me.
my whole bjd thing started becuse i got into anime growing up (i grew up in japan so it's hard to escape) but i got really into it and that soon turned into cosplay that turned into anime figure collecting that turned into anime dollfie dreams and now resin characters. i did get a porcelain bjd as a kid when i was 7 and i ended up drawing dolls a lot but i didnt really jump into the world of bjd till i was head deep in the con scene and found the doll sections
This thread really opened my eyes to what the term "hobby" can mean. I apparently have had a very narrow perception of the concept my entire life, and whatever silly things I do never fit into it so when I'd be asked about it in the past my reply was always "I don't have any". In retrospect that explains why people always thought I was weird. I guess they assumed I just didn't like anything (though I wasn't, and still am not, the type to actively volunteer information on things I enjoy IRL so it's a fair assumption). On topic, I doodle compulsively and tend to channel that into roleplaying shenanigans, mostly for tumblr blogs. That definitely came first haha.
I actually only bought my first BJD this Spring, I'm very new to the hobby! I've got quite a few other hobbies and have most of my life, but non-BJD doll collecting has been a big part of my life for a while, I especially like Monster High, Lalaloopsy, and Pullip.
I've loved dolls since childhood. I grew up with severe asthma and health issues, so a lot of things could set my asthma off: pets, furry toys like bears, plants, anything! So, dolls were my go to. Now, I collect Reborn Dolls, Blythe dolls, and BJDs! I'd also like to start collecting Kikipop dolls too they are uber cute! Aside from doll particular collections, I also collect tarot card decks, crystals and Lolita dresses. =^_^=
Transformers and miscellaneous action figures are my secondary 'collecting' hobbies. I like to support small artist toys, like Onell Design's Glyos System, or Love And A Sandwich, and similar plush/art doll designers. And I'll pick up the occasional Lego set or Furby. Otherwise I'm an artist. I draw, compose music, write fiction and parodies, and goof with animation and photo editing. I am currently taking singing lessons. Acting is my primary passion. Once in a great while, I will sculpt or paint something, usually figure-related.
I have very little hobbies because I do not have time to invest so much. I adopted bjd as my hobby two years ago because they were too pleasing to my eyes that i couldn't resist the temptation to buy one for myself. Well besides having bjd being added to my life, I have been a muay thai practitioner for 5 years and still going strong. I'm a male and have my feminine and masculine side.
I think yes, dolls, Resin, and otherwise are my only hobby with all that it encompasses. Though, I am rather fond of Fae, and Elves, all things mystical, magical, fantasy. Have a nice collection of Resin Faeries, Angels, and Gnomes. Entering the Resin bjd world began for me years ago, when they popped up in a Google Search, unrelated to what I was searching for. (Thanks Google) So beautiful. One doll became two, then three, and so on until I had a rather large collection of beautiful dolls. Mostly from ResinSoul, Bobobie, Fantasy Doll, Impldoll, I also love resin bjd pets/companions. (Have mystic kids bunny) and recently Luca from AlicesCollections.
I wandered over toward resin from Blythe, which I discovered in a crafting community.. So I am also into arts/crafts, especially swapping artist trading cards.
I have wayyyy to many hobbies but the specific hobby that got me into bjds was cosplay. When I was looking for cosplay wigs I came across wigs for dolls. I thought the dolls were cool, did some research, and the rest is history lol.
I've been a collector all my life it seems. I used to collect the W.I.T.C.H and Wendy comics as well as vintage porcelain dolls, Bratz, Betty Spaghetti and Lego Bionicle... and also My Little Ponies now that I think about it. I never understood why my mother wouldn't let me collect Polly Pocket and Hamtaro toys as well, but looking back I'm amazed how much she did let me collect general I slowly graduated from and got rid of most of it, and then got into kpop. I've been collecting CDs, DVDs and merchandise ever since and now that I've got my first BJD I'm most likely going to be hoarding myself into needing yet another shelving unit my mother is just happy it's out of my own wallet now.
Omg excellent question... For me bjd is new for participating, but I've had hobbies all my life .... Drawing mainly (tho I don't get to so much anymore), archery, MTG, pokemon go/games, vidya games is a new hobby, I have a sewing machine I swear I will learn to sew... I read a lot... anime/manga aaahh but most hobbies are on the back burner right now ... I guess you could say my hobby is hobbies ? hahaha... when I have time for them that is...time is a precious thing for me these days...
I had three beautiful Blythe dolls. They were difficult to pose. I gifted them to a friend who is new to the Resin bjd world.
I write, read, embroider, knit, and I love cooking. I collect postcards, Christmas ornaments, porcelain clown dolls, and BJDs!
Collecting anime figures were my first hobby which only was a few.. so maybe its not collecting at that point... but i did have a bunch of barbies that i really liked and even a couple from Japan back when i was in highschool. during that time or shortly afterwards i found the "momoko" dolls that having some moveable joints. once i got into that size of dolls and clothing then the momoko totally took over where i found obitsus in the same size. I was at a con and seen BJDs so i looked into that size and found one i liked that was a parabox doll (vinyl) then things got crazy after that with other dolls i started to get and slowly got away from the smaller ones like barbie/momoko/obitsu (this was around 2004, 2006 and later at this point)
Playing The Sims is probably my biggest hobby. I started when TS1 came out, so I must've been about 9. Owning BJDs is like having real life Sims, only I'm nicer to the dolls than my Sims
Drawing came first. I got into drawing because of the creation process; I just really enjoy creating characters and world building. I also love the process of looking things up and researching to make the world I'm building more grounded, or the characters/animals more realistic and believable. I got into computers after drawing, and I like to putter around with codes and stuff. My need to create things is probably what led me to BJD. My hobby is creating stuff. I just love to sit down and write ideas down, and then sharpen the ones that stick before I transfer them to drawings, and now BJDs too. ;w;
I have had a few hobbies. I used to compete in running, but then I went to a school with very bad air (they hid it for over a decade before the school was forced to be torn down) and it terminated my ability to do hard sports for a couple of years, and when I started feeling better I no longer felt good about running because my cardio had gone down a lot. I tried to start swimming but quit soon. My mom was an artist, and I am also a good painter and an artist without much practice, so I do that sometimes. My number one hobby is writing however, I have written over 4000 pages and want to publish a book some day. I used to have aquariums too but I had to sell them since my new flat had too weak floor. I collect plants (mostly those that don't bloom) also, it's a recently new hobby. I'd like to learn how to knit, but I'm too busy currently.
I actually collect transformers I've been collecting them for about 11 years now, but then I really began to get into my anime, so I collect figures and manga too what got me into dolls was the idea that I could customise them into the anime characters I loved so much
I've been into drawing and cartoons for as long as I can remember! BJDs are definitely a new hobby that lets me explore a different artistic form of creative expression. I also got more into makeup recently which kind of made me more passionate about bjds because faceups are basically doing a doll's makeup lol. I also like collecting lots of random stuff that spark my interest, especially toys and Halloween decorations. I have an Armada Megatron that lives on my desk (cool to see other people in this thread also brought up Transformers!). It just makes me really happy to decorate my living space with things I enjoy!
I’ve been collecting video games and consoles for around 19 years. My collection has been halved as I decided a few years back to only keep what I really want to play but at its peak I had close to 500 games. Back in the day it was a lot of fun just to track down games and consoles at garage sales, flea markets, small video game shops, and thrift stores. I feel like because a few games are worth a lot now everyone thinks their random sports nes carts are worth a markup. I do have other small collections like figures and plushies but some of those were sold in order to enter the bjd hobby.
My hobby aside from BJD is my creative work as a florist, I adore beautiful bouquets and fresh flowers. My second hobby is sewing doll clothes.
Funnily enough I used draw dolls alot!! Wasn't until years later I was introduced to the world of bjds
BJDs were first for me, but customizing Monster High dolls is another big hobby of mine, I love using them to make OOAK dolls, especially since I’m a huge fan of modding dolls, and BJD are way too expensive to do the heavy mods I like doing on MH dolls lol
For hobbies apart from drawing and writing and RP which I've pretty much always done, a big hobby of mine is repainting Monster High dolls. It came before I was able to afford BJDs. It was a great, cheaper way to shell my characters. I still do it but I've been a bit disenchanted with it ever since I completed all my major characters and have turned a handful into BJDs. It was wonderful practice for doing faceups though.
Hey Wes! It’s iNyyx! For me it was the opposite, I started BJD faceups first, and they were a big help when I started with Monster High repaints, then my practice with those made my BJD faceups better. Though now I feel like I have to redo one of my favorite older faceups
Nope. I also collect anime figures and J-pop music. All of my hobbies seem to be based around collecting of some sort xD
I have a lot of hobbies before the bjd one. I cosplay and sew, both are like a complementary set if you ask me. I also listen to music, play video games, watch anime, read manga, collect figures, and play DnD. All of them came before this hobby and I enjoy them all. Some I don't do as often as others but meh, such is life.
In terms of toy hobbies, I actually started out with teddy bears when I was a kid thanks to a teddy collectors' magazine series I picked up in England. Once I moved to the States, Monster High was having its heyday and I fell hard into that and fashion dolls in general. BJDs always felt like the final frontier: the apex in terms of quality... and cost XD Glad I finally got here!
Same here! I had tons of Barbies and lots of Barbie related stuff. Then my other two big big biiiiig passions are figure skating (which I practice twice a week) and civil aviation - but that’s basically in my genes with 4 uncles and 5 cousins pilots in the family (I also went to flight attendant and flight safety school).
Oil painting, drawing, and writing. The first has been only in the last couple of years, the other two for much, much longer.
Sewing, crochet, and knitting came first. Bjds seem to appreciate those hobbies so they fit in nicely
Ah...good question. So many hobbies..bjd collecting is my newest hobby. I play console and PC games, mostly rpg/ mmorpg. I collected comic books as a kid in the 80's, and then started collecting action figures in the 80's, 90's, and still....I play music and sing, I love to draw comic book style art, i like to read fantasy and horror novels, I LOVE anime, I love sci- fi, fantasy, and horror movies and TV, and I cosplay. I have more hobbies than a full time employee in the veterinary field should have time for, but I live to play!
I have a lot of different hobbies that all came before: drawing and painting, playing and writing music, and sewing (both cosplay and regular clothes) for the creative part. Reading, and (the odd one out) going to the gym for the non-creating category. BJD definitely fall into the creative area, much like most people in this thread seem to combine the hobby with various creative pursuits.
I personally have always loved dolls. It carried over from childhood. Other hobbies include writing stories and making art dolls. Writing came first for me. I've done that since I was able to hold a pencil and before I could spell. I remember always bugging my mom about how to spell words. Sculpting with clay came a few years ago, before BJDs.
I had barbies and polly pockets when I was little, I loved dressing them up. When I was a little older I started collecting build-a-bears and monster high and ever after high dolls. When I was in pre-school I used to sew and I've taught myself how to sew quite a few different things now. I love to write, and I have a really vivid imagination so I can see how I want things to look quite easily, that makes getting clothing and wigs that I think look good together quite easy. I got into photography a few years ago, I always loved taking photos but now I have a proper camera. I also game a lot and like customising characters in games like World of Warcraft, Skyrim and Dragon age. I am pretty new to BJD collecting but I think a lot of my other hobbies compliment this one. The fact I can really customise them to my liking is very appealing to me.
I have many hobbies. Many are related to art such as drawing and sculpting. I also collect anime figures, vinyl figures, and rocks and minerals. Art has been something I’ve always done, so this was probably my first hobby. I also enjoy gaming and reading. BJDs are something more new, but I’ve been admiring them for several months and finally decided to get into it. I’m very excited to pick up sewing and create my own characters.
I love drawing since forever! My current profile picture is actually drawn by me a long time ago but I use it everywhere I am online so if you see the picture anywhere, you can be pretty sure that's me despite the difference in names
I personally have so so many hobbies! its honestly probably unhealthy! i draw, i paint, i sculpt, i needle felt, i sew.. i think i need to slow down! So far bjds have been great for me though as i can use my basic knowledge of all these things into one c:
I was a very creative child and I was always working on some kind of project or another. My grandmother was a big doll collector and she got me started on collecting dolls at a very young age. By the time I was about six she had gotten me my own sewing machine and by seven I could sew my own doll clothes. As I got a little older I started to draw and sculpt more. I liked building little doll houses and furniture. When I got into middle school I started drawing more and sculpting less. And in high school I was looking for the dolls I saw in a kerli music video and I discovered bjds. I found the face up artist and the blank dolls, that was when I realized what this hobby was and how it was an amalgamation of most of my hobby’s all in one. I was not able to get my first bjd until I was in college away from my dad several years later. My dad never supported my doll hobby he preferred me play video games or board games. I tend to bounce around between all my hobbies but I always have some kind of doll project in the works in the background. Many doll related projects take a very long time so I work on other hobbies while I wait.
I'm not sure if I had already answered this thread before but here goes xD I have this awful habit of jumping from one hobby to another so I have a lot. I like doodling, playing musical instruments (I play the guitar, bass, cello and ukulele 'cause I'm all for strings) singing, collecting magical girl wands, (mostly Sailor Moon) playing both computer and console games as well.
First it was the anime, then the video games, then cosplay, photography, anime figure collecting, and now I'm stuck in BJD paradise
I actually HATED dolls as a kid! I legitimately HATED them, my parents tried to get them for me but it NEVER worked out lol. I guess I've gone full circle... I have many many hobbies, I'm part of the furry community (since I was a young kid), I love video games, anime conventions, and I've just recently started getting into BJD'S! I have a bad habit of fully thrusting myself into new obsessions and then getting bored of it... My solution? MANY HOBBIES! I've told myself it was okay to take a break from things from time to time. But I've thoroughly enjoyed BJD'S, I hope I can continue to *slowly* how my collection!
I've dabbled in a variety of hobbies over the years—some of which I'm still active with to some degree, while others were a phase I've since moved on from. I casually collected some fashion dolls (Bratz, Winx Club, random Disney dolls, etc), used to be an avid My Little Pony collector in late high school (the G1s I had growing up, and ones I acquired through trades and sales). I've since moved on from those. As for ones I'm still at least somewhat active in: video games, drawing, painting, sketching, character design (that's what brought me back into bjds after a long hiatus), writing, fanart/fiction, collecting cat stuff, Pullip/Taeyang/Dal customization/collecting, action figures/physical media for favorite TV/movies/book/etc. (especially Avatar/Korra related stuff), and also a bit of sewing, wig-making, resin eye creating and experimenting with other creative ventures that were somehow tied to the hobby. I also have gotten into fishkeeping and the freshwater aquarium hobby over the past year or so. I have kept fish several times in the past (mostly a couple of bettas, and usually just one tank), but I've invested more time in having a variety of different fish (many of which I've never kept before), as well as decorating the tanks with natural rock, substrate, driftwood, and live plants. I currently have three tanks going—a 10g tall, 10g long, and a 20g tall. I pretty much divide my spare time between fishkeeping, bjd-related creative projects, gaming and sketching almost equally these days. That, and bingeing YouTube videos while I work on something
I also collect statues from video games and various franchises on the side. I used to collect Pullips and Disney dolls, but stopped doing so to have more funds for BJDs.
Oh, how could I count... I have had some many hobbies all through the years. I have a shift in every 3-5 years, but that doesn't mean I give up on a hobby altogether, I am just switching focus. I used to be in role-playing-game, manga and anime, scrapbooking and other creative hobbies, photography (thanks to BJD - I started taking photography more seriously because I wanted to take good photos of my dolls), coloring... now I am into fountain pens. But except of RPG, I did not quit any of these for good, I just don't spend as much time with them as I used to.
I only have room from my one 15g betta tank with our living situation right now, but I used to have a lot of fun keeping swordtails (so. many. babies.) and other small, chill species when I had a little more room. Multiple Tank Syndrome is so real! What are you keeping, if you feel like sharing?
Multiple Tank Syndrome did indeed get a grip on me As for the fish I'm currently keeping: a halfmoon male betta, female betta, 1 honey gourami, 1 panda garra, 7 kuhli loaches, 2 male fancy guppies, 2 sparkling gouramis, 2 bumblebee gobis, a bristlenose pleco, 7 celestial rasboras/danios, 9 strawberry rasboras, and 6 panda corys. I have my 20g tall beside one of my bjd displays, and I've currently got my girl Tauli sitting in a chair watching the fish swim around. That's one way to link two unrelated hobbies together.
Oooh, there's some there I've never kept! And kuhli loaches and cory cats are some of the cutest fish in the hobby, imo. Love watching them snuffle through the sand and cuddle together. If I wasn't sure my betta would bully them I'd get a little school of one or the other for my 15g. A 20 tall makes for a pretty epic doll prop!
Bjds are definitely one of my newer hobbies, with me receiving my first doll about a year ago. My main hobby though is dnd and has been since my last year of high school. I currently play three times a week with friends and (try to) keep up with Critical Role. I would love to one day make Jester into a doll. I've always liked drawing and recently bought a graphics tablet. I also watch a lot of movies and do some gaming.
First came handmade art projects since I was a little girl, then came videogames and books, later I fall in love with writing and a kind of D&D when I finally found bjds The one that envolve all of my old hobbies
Definitely not my only hobby! I'm also into Dungeons and Dragons, singing, video games, virtual pet sites, k-pop, etc. I've always stuffed my brain with as many hyperfixations as possible. BJDs are also a newer hobby for me - I'm coming up on one year in the hobby.
I always liked fashion dolls as a kid. I loved paper dolls as well! Anything I could customise. I don’t really consider BJDs a hobby as much as other people do, as I don’t make clothes for them or take them out on photoshoots. I just put them on display and enjoy them as decoration. I think of myself as more of a collector. I would say my main hobbies are reading, drawing and writing. I also like scrapbooking/journaling and writing cute PenPal letters. ❤️
I have a few hobbies. I collect Manga, playing video games, go to swim, but my biggest and most expensive hobby are my 3 Maine coon cats
