Iplehouse nYID, SID, EID and hybrids- part 2

May 2, 2014

    1. You know, the way the en manager's answer is phrased, it could simply mean that they plan to release KID, BID or Pixxie dolls this S/S season. Or a JID female. She doesn't say it's a new size, only that it's smaller than the 3 larger sizes. Not trying to burst anyone's bubble, just playing devil's advocate.

      @sidroq: Hobbits! [IMG] [IMG]

    2. Maybe, but seeing that it's the normal English Manager; I think if she'd meant already existing sizes shed probably would've said "new KIDs/BIDs". Especially since she'd already mentioned the other sizes. But time will tell. You never know what's right around the corner with Iple. :-)

    3. Actually BID, KID & JID can exist if one uses them as juveniles (well, if one deals w/the KID/JID girls' busts). I have every intention of getting a KID to be a 8-10 year old child.

    4. I agree that BID, KID, and JID can work as young teens and kids. In my mad little doll world my JID boy is the Greek god of war trapped in the body of a short 13 year and for scale it works just fine.

    5. 2 of my new guys..............EID Leonard (painted by Lyn Raftis) with nYID Justin head on an SID body (painted by Pepstar)

    6. Oh my, your guys are absolutely gorgeous :love. Thanks to you I found Outlander series and started to read it .

    7. Thank you boudica! I hope you enjoy Outlander! It's become one of my favorite series since I first discovered it earlier this year.

    8. [IMG]
My Chris named Terra.. she's on EIDW body, has nothing own.. just borrowing a wig and clothes and eyes and need to put sealant and gloss.. I'm just trying to recognize my character but I can't see her before a blue long wig..

    9. Oh, JinCity, your guys are gorgeous :aheartbea I'd never have imagined Leonard as a readhead, but he looks great with that wig!

And Adalwolf, Terra looks fantastic even with short black hair - I can't wait to see her with the long blue, too. (I also find it pretty hilarious that your girl kinda looks more manly than my boy. )

    10. Hahaha thanks Smaug XD yes.. I don't know how to make pretty Terra because she's very boy-ish but I will add some silver pearl powder on her face up if it gives some pretty feeling lol.. and her hair is more girly than this short, maybe then it's more like SHE than he XD but she's like me that way hehe

    11. Damn! Terra looks fantastic, Adalwolf!

    12. Adalwolf, I do so love Terra already! She looks something fierce~

JinCIncy, Gorgeous men you have there!

I was only able to take a few (badly lit because nighttime!) photos of Sierra in Tokyo due to a busy schedule, but I'm glad I was able to squeeze some photo time in.

    13. Adalwolf - she looks fantastic already! Can't wait to see her in her proper wig, she'll be even more amazing :D

    14. The story in Outlander is great, I am glad I discovered it too :).

Adalwolf Wow, even though Terra does not have her final look yet, she looks marvelous. I wish I was able to imprint the character to my dolls like you do. I will certainly try with Lawrence when he arrives :sweat (4 months from now - urgh, the wait will be long :sigh).

      Sierra looks great rootedinvanity ;).

    15. Thank you so much guys! ;__; I had hard time with her face.. I always need the right wig and eyes so I could see the look before sealing the paint or adding more.. but now I can't, so tomorrow I can borrow a blue wig from my gf's doll and I can see is she Terra finally! at least her expression is perfect, that smirk is awesome though I miss her elf ears.. but fang-head and her own body is in my wishlist next purchase! She's eyeing me here like "Hey.. I am here, what's wrong ? gimme some attentioooon.." and I'm like "ugh that emo kid wig but it's better than a pink princess curl wig.. or is it.."

      Rootedinvanity: Stylish Sierra <3 :D

    16. Adalwolf, Terra is looking AWESOME so far!! I love her face-up -- she looks kick-ass and a little androgynous, but still is obviously all woman! The sculpt is really versatile when it comes to gender, it seems :)

(Something about the hair and eyes reminds me of Adam Lambert a little bit -- but I *love* his look and kind of want to adopt him and borrow his eye makeup, hehe! He always has great smoky eyes, so it's a compliment for Terra, in my estimation -- and she'll probably look more femme with gloss and a non-black wig. Trust me, though, I *wish* I was as good with makeup as he is, and I'm a Goth who *loves* eye makeup!)

Speaking of eye makeup, OH MY DEAR GODS am I in love with Pamela's!! It's gorgeous and metallic in person, and I adore everything about it. Am I the first person to have had the non-red-lips version arrive?

(Just a quickie teaser, because the lighting for these turned out ALL WRONG, so I'm going to have to go back and re-take them.)

Blanca Oleander by Ashbet, on Flickr

At some point, I'm going to have to put together some little character profiles for the crew of the (not so) good ship Demogorgon . . . in the meanwhile, the ship's doctor, Blanca Oleander, suggests that laudanum makes a *delightful* sleep tonic.

From the logbooks of the Demogorgon, written in a spidery, crabbed hand:

A word of advice -- I'm not sure that's her real name. And she really doesn't like to go on shore for any amount of time, and will only leave the ship if draped in mourning veils -- it's like she's afraid someone is going to recognize her.

None of the rest of us have any idea where she keeps those outfits, either. There's surely no room in the little cupboard of the sawbones' cabin -- but, honestly, we try not to question her too much, if we don't have to.

Saves us from a pinch of strychnine, if we were to unwisely wind up on her bad side!

      * * *
Outfit by IpleHouse, AMAZING hat by Nightshade Dolls.

And, yes -- her name is a play on "white oleander," and like the plant, she is a poisoner ;)

      -- A :aheartbea

    17. Adalwolf , Terra looks great, very motorcycle chic

    18. Oh wow I really do not see Chris anymore in her. She looks very beautiful :)

    19. I'm crying. She's gorgeous.
Chris faceupped like this (with the sexy smirk oh so visible) makes me reconsider selling my own (company faceup) Chris so quickly - I should have wiped him and let him receive a faceup by a talented artist *SIGHS*.

Please share many pictures of her - I hope she finds a body of her own, soon!

    20. I hope this isn't a silly question, I'm seeing a lot of mixed answers on what can and can't be swapped and such, but does anyone know if it would be possible to put a EID Carina head on a YID body? I'm thinking that 70cm is gonna be way, way too big for me to handle.

    21. if the option is there in the Doll Choice it can "TECHNICALLY" be done. Other than that it becomes a matter of what you will accept. some will accept a slight bobble that can be hidden by hair, some don't want anything other than a perfect fit. Some think a head will be too big/small for a particular body... it's not can/can't but like/not like... you can ask in the head swap forum if someone can show you and decide from that?

    22. There is actually a comparison of various head sizes on the nYID body its all on a male body but it should give you a good guess on how the head sizes work against that body height
      http://iplehouse.com/home/bbs/board.php?bo_table=iple_review_en&wr_id=46&nhn1=en
*you might need to be logged in to see it.

I derped, the girl body comparison is about 3 links down
      http://iplehouse.com/home/bbs/board.php?bo_table=iple_review_en&wr_id=45&nhn1=en
and EID head actually fits the nYID body rather well from those pictures.

And as far as it being possible, they do offer the EID Carina head on the DC page for the nYID body (although all the DC options are listed as sold out right now because of the time limit each month) so I'd go so far as assume that if they are offering it for the package they are compatible!

    23. Scarlett's up. (And a super sekreet surprise doll along with her that everyone's been waiting for...)

Another day, another unsavoury damsel in distress story. I really shouldn't be surprised at this point.

I guess her story seems to closely resemble Ching Shih, which is a step in the right direction (missing the sexy super young adopted son/lover though). More people need to know about the awesome/terrifying force that was Ching Shih. (Though I'm still holding out for an actual appearance by this lady)

    24. Scarlet's story isn't the best out of them (for instance, it doesn't make sense how *spoiler* the pirate crew hate her for making their captain "soft" but then immediately accept her as their new captain). But OH MY GOSH HER FACE AND HER PIRATE OUTFIT. I'm kind of a little smitten with her (sort of like everyone else in her story, lol). AND THAT WHITE DRESS TOO. AND LEONARD'S OUTFIT. :aheartbea

And teehee, little Bliss poking out from behind Leonard in that last shot, too adorable!

    25. Did they give Kamau romantic eyes? Something's different about him.

So she needs to avenge her father....
Just hoping that her uncle isn't Lawrence's dad.
Then they'll just end up killing each other.

    26. I saw that too, but I'm wondering how much gets lost in translation.
While the translations they do tend to be mostly correct in grammar, composition etc. if the original story is from and was told by some one who isn't a native English speaker some things could have been conveyed to the translator in less than optimal terms.

I know often times there are words in other languages that convey much more than simply what its English translation conveys.

I too love her pirate outfit and the details on every part of her accessories!. I'm not super in love with the red dress though I think the black skirt part could be toned down a bit, it seems a little over the top and child-like. too lolita petticoat and not enough stylized refined upper class lady

Speaking of RED clothes did any one see the new lingerie!? wow. I love it!
      http://iplehouse.com/home/shop/item.php?it_id=1611453763&nhn1=en

    27. I like Scarlet's sculpt, but to me, neither of the faceups are doing her face justice. I would totally get her blank, I think... *prays for a split*

I do love her pirate outfit, though! I just wish she had a kickass coat to go with it.

    28. Ah, didn't know! just discovered IH this month (and got into the hobby)
Its lovely none the less, I might have to grab it.

    29. No problem. :) And welcome to the world of bjds. :)
The outfit has just now become available for regular purchase. Probably because now all the Pamela orders have shipped.

    30. Danger zone! I've been wanting that set for awhile now.

    31. I think I like Scarlet but something just annoys me too much.. Maybe her lips, they're somehow so cartoon like and looks like she's trying very hard to make that smile.. and it looks weird because she took so much botox XD I don't know, she's a little bit derpy (sorry sorry sorry..). But maybe some owner faceups help, I want to see some home made faces ;) it may change my opinion, that happened with Rebecca!

But I will keep my Bibiane plan even though Scarlet could make that character too, but I love Bibi's different unique face, Scarlet is just like all their recent ladies.. Older ones inspire me more this time..

    32. Very pretty! Do you know if it would fit SID women too?

    33. [IMG]
I made her faceup three times because each time it looked too heavy or angry or old or just like a grumpy old man but.. now suddenly she looks like my Terra.. Young/teenager and happy.. like a prettyface boy she wants to be. So much hard work, even tears almost XD But now.. that smile makes me smile with her :aheartbea

It's interesting that if she was a male-body doll I would kick "him" out of my house immediately but as long as I can get females/male looking females, I'm like love love love and love hahaha.. yes these characters are females and they must be all called "she" no matter how boy-ish they look o.o

    34. That red lingerie is beautiful! There should be a disclaimer. Nipple slips may occur if you have large breasts. xD

    35. Eeeeek, Adalwolf, I'm so excited to see her! Please post more photos of her. <3

Haha, I'm actually kinda relieved about your complaint that she kept looking too angry or old. ^^; My eventual FemmeChris is going to be a 60-year-old silver fox who is very grumpy and arrogant. An incredibly some-science-rejuvination-magic-and-time-dilation-effects-there-60, but she's definitely not youthful. So... yay, picked out the right head!

Scarlett has a Bliss lip. The lower lip that really sticks out kinda far. But, I actually kinda like her sans the face-up. She's really manly-looking, I think. If I ever win a lottery (because this character is very minor), I'd get her to be Tank, Joan's (FemmeChris) confidante and subordinate with a long history. She's got the right sort of attitude and smirk (but I'd need to find a short and muscular lady body for her. I can't even get Joan settled - who is no Jessica Rabbit, but she's still got a feminine body compared to Tank who... well... lives up to that name).

    36. It's absolutely technically possible to do. Whether or not you think she's proportionate would be another story.

I find Carina to have a larger head (specifically, larger features) than some other EIDs. I put my Asa on an SID body, because it seemed to fit her better, but Carina, to me, is scaled as an EID.

If you look at this line-up of my Iple girls (older photo, my collection grew!), you can see what I'm talking about -- it's EID/SID/EID/SID in the picture.

The nice thing about Doll Choice is that it really lets you customize your dream doll, though -- a longer-than-shoulder-length wig, or something that has pieces around the face, is going to soften a strong jaw and reduce the contrast between a larger head and a smaller shoulder breadth. It's absolutely do-able, the question is just what appeals to you aesthetically :)

I am thankfully (for my wallet) safe from Scarlet. I really wanted a lady pirate captain, but the two things I'd want most in that outfit would be an amazing coat and a fitted/flowing white shirt, and she has neither.

(Also, honestly, I wish they'd left off the steampunk bits and bobs -- I'm into pirate stuff and fantasy stuff, and putting random gears on things isn't really my style. I like the weapons, but I wish that the hat and glove trim was full-on pirate-y, not airship-pirate-y.)

Also, LOL at "Parrot Haven" island :D

If a damsel has to be put into distress, I'm okay with her coming out of it by becoming the captain of her own ship by merit of her skilled business acumen :)

Stories like these are always going to have various moments of distress (Edan had one, at gunpoint!), although I agree that it's frustrating that the women's stories seem to have more sexualized threats than the men do -- I'd be okay with NEITHER having sexualized threats, frankly. But at least Scarlet is a self-rescuing damsel, unlike Bliss' original storyline ;)

Scarlet reminds me of a grown-up, pissed-off Narae N412, hehe!! Not that it's an issue of originality, I'm just amused at the idea.

I do wish that the boots were *boots* rather than boot covers, because they're both awesome and I'd buy them separately if they were available.

But, yeah. Awesome character idea, thankfully my wallet is safe this time around, really wish they'd make a Pirate Queen outfit that had an amazing long brocade coat and hat with metal trim -- the storyline is begging for it!

      -- A <3

    37. Yeah, but Edan's moment was fleeting and no one needed to kindly rescue him out of that situation (Although when you think about it, Scarlett and eventually Bliss did rescue themselves with wits, which is cool, and infinitely more of a character arc than what any of the male dolls got. Except maybe Lawrence). I just don't really... understand this continuous fascination with slave markets and creepy skeevy dudes in shadows. o.O

      But man, I reaaaallllllyyyyyy want Scarlett's metal bits and bobs. My hoarding crow of a character needs that metal chain dangling off of her belt. ;_;

    38. Apologies for the double-post, but I think I fixed Scarlett's problem. Her eyes are wayyyyyy too big in the promo photos. (Someone in the WR mentioned that she looked cross-eyed, and that's probably because the too-big eyes had too-high domes)

So much sharper with smaller eyes.

    39. She does look much better, although she does still look a little heavy on the brow ridge side, but that may just be the faceup

    40. She does look a lot better. I think with those eye wells of hers, she might need those oval shaped eyes to fit properly

    41. Yeah I noticed the eye size as well. Way too big.

Have to disagree on the plastic face thing - true, it would be nice to see a female with some facial lines/muscles (a la Roger), but Scarlet has very interesting features and a comparatively strong jawline. Iple's faceups don't do her any justice. I'm twitching to paint her, she could be so versatile.

    42. I so agree...she could be amazing, and they absolutely fell flat with the faceups. It's really a pity.

    43. Finally got a chance to pour over Scarlet's sales page - is it odd that I'm actually *more* excited about the re-release of Kamau than I am about any aspect of Scarlet herself? :sweat I think they accentuated his cheekbones! *flails* I am SO not going to be safe from him once he's actually for sale - Kamau's been on my wishlist for ages!

    44. I have to disagree slightly....... her face is all round edges... for her jaw to be considered strong to me (or for her to look masculine like some people have been saying), she needs less curved features. The thing that bothers me is that ALL of her face is soft curves and rounded off... there is no defined areas. It could be partly because of the faceup... but her jaw is just slightly different from their normal oval faced roundness... I'd really like to see them go full throttle on an actual square female jawline or another face shape. They've gotten sooo close to it with Rebecca, Carina, Aaliyah (who I think was the closest...) etc... and now Scarlet... but it just seems like they are too scared to actually go with that strong look. I dont know if its because they dont think it is feminine or is appealing or what... but I'd really like to see them do a sculpt that has Mariska Hargitay's, penelope cruz's, or even emily deschanel's bone structure and face shape.

    45. Actually, I think she looks manly because she has a relatively long chin and nose (operating word being "relatively" - compared to the other female faces). I agree that her face is pretty narrow and rounded, but I think there's a reason for it. The necks on the female bodies are reeaaalllllyyyyyy scrawny, compared to realistic proportions. If you try to put a female head with strong jowls on it, it'll just look like a bobble-head even if the head is the same size as the others. So in order for them to make a woman with a strong face, they'd have to thicken the neck. Which I, by the way, am 100% behind. I like strong faces and bodies. But I doubt we'll see a female head with actual strong features without a body redesign (and that's honestly starting to look less and less likely). (Oh and then there's the little thing where DoA deemed a doll from a small Korean company (Angelsdoll, now defunct) "off-topic" because she looked "too western"... you guessed it, she had a strong jaw).

That being said, I'd love to see some more definition in the female faces. I think I'm so smitten with Doria and FemmeChris because they have such things like little folds under the eyes, and subtle muscle definition around the mouth. Makes them look more mature and, well... real.

    46. I dont necessarily agree that they'd need a thicker neck... I think it just all depends on how they make the faces size wise. The girls have had pretty big eyes in comparison to their other facial features lately and most just needed the thickest part of the jaw to be a bit lower and the chin to be a little less in length/a little less pointy to pull off the squarer jaw look without being super duper realistic. So I think it can be done... look at Zera... if her chin was shaped just slightly different, she'd be pretty spot on. I understand the bobble headed thing though since that has been a concern with Carina on the smaller bodies... but I still dont think she looks too bad on the YID and have that combo planned for down the road. I really hope they make that female muscle body we all have been dying for... then maybe a thicker neck can come into play there.

And that is exactly why I like Chris as a girl and Doria... I didnt like Chris as a male because he looked too feminine/animesque... but as a girl? OMFG! lol.

    47. Just did some reading up on female pirates (thank you Wikipedia!). Scarlet seems more like Anne Bonny than Ching Shih to me - especially the detail about her "red hair": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Bonny

    48. Yeah, it's a bit of a mix. The part about the pirate captain husband being madly in love, then dying and the wife taking over after him despite antagonism from the crew really reminded me of Ching Shih, because that must have taken some ridiculously clever maneuvering on her part (and I think defines exactly why she was so dangerous).

Howeeeever, if it is Anne.... Maybe we'll see something like her famous lover Mary Read? There's a reason for very "masculine" lady pirate clothes if I ever saw one. :D

    49. Thank you XD and actually s/he didn't look like female at all with my first second faceups, like OLD ANGRY DRAG QUEEN MAN instead of strong female.. but at least it's easy to make an old looking character XD I needed young, but it's also possible, I think Chris default looks very young so I decide to give this head for my young character! Can't wait to see yours! :)

    50. Oh she's amazing! An awesome girl. The faceup really is wonderful.

    51. Adalwolf, I really, really like her! You did such an awesome job. <3

My Felix, Nil, stayed over at a friend's place while I was away in Japan with Sierra. Here's a photo taken by my friend, dollstars, of Nil with her EID Luna, Diva.

    52. Yeah -- I don't know what it is, but Scarlet's face just doesn't have the same level of expressiveness and character than many other Iple sculpts have.

I know that Pamela's face got compared to Stella's, but honestly, it's a passing resemblance -- I'll have to take a photo of them together (I've seen one, where they have similar face-ups and look like sisters, but mine are very different.)

Pamela has those half-lidded sloe eyes, like a Venetian courtesan, and that lovely curled upper lip that gives her just a hint of disdain, scorn, or wickedness. She's really sultry and gorgeous -- and I feel like her jaw and nose are reasonably strong/angled, compared to Scarlet's.

Blanca Oleander by Ashbet, on Flickr

Meh, hard to say. Looking forward to seeing what Iple does with her re-release -- and I can hope for a proper lady-pirate outfit with a COAT and a HAT and actual breeches or a skirt, not booty shorts!

      -- A :aheartbea

    53. yessssssss a thousand times!

    54. I posted this over in the arrival thread because we'd already seen a few mockups, and frankly its more OT, here than there.

A lot of people seem to be of the consensus that they love her nose and eyes as they are (although smaller iris/pupil would be better)
So I did a mockup with those two things in mind.
What I was going for was strong female type w/ the smirk the originally seem to have been going for.
Its not by any means perfect and who knows what IH ends up doing with her.. But I agree with @Lelite a more masculine-strong faced female is MUCH more suited for a pirate than what was currently there.
And as I stated over in the arrival thread, for her face to truly carry a smirk and look "correct" she'd need some definition in her laugh line area.. nothing extreme but.. something. otherwise she looks flat. this wasn't something I added to my mockup because sleep..

I really do love her nose.. I hope even if they were to completely redo her whole face they'd leave the nose as is. Its very refreshing to see a nose that isn't something super small.
Just going to post it as a link rather than image spam.

      *changes made*
      Characters right brow lowered.
Characters Left brow arched and raised.
      Lower lip slightly thinned.
      Lips closed.
      Smirk defined.
      Jaw squared off.
      Chin rounded and squared.
      Cheekbones raised ever so slightly.
      Iris/pupil shrunk.

    55. Jaw that you made - omg it's perfect ^^

    56. okay dumb question time for those who know Doria's addiction 'rose' pattern dress.....

is Edan's vest and the SID Dark Garnet vest made of the same fabric??? I can't get my eye focused enough atm to tell ><

    57. Looks to be on the Doria/SID dark vest.
they are taken in different lighting settings so Doria's dress is MUCH more vibrant but the patterning is the same.
      checking Edan's vest now.
      His *might* be different.

    58. I have the Doria outfit and the Dark Garnet is the same fabric but the rose pattern is not so easy to see on the Edan vest.

    59. Here they are all side by side. Doria/Dark vest definitely a match Edans looks more like faux distressed marbled leather for the pattern... you know the kind they make with crumpled paper dipped in paint
