IpleHouse JiD Mini Discussion Part 17

Apr 10, 2015

    1. omg too cute ... and LOL your decorations! Brilliant idea lol

    2. I love what everyone in here has done with their JID's! I may have to break out the camera to take some holiday pictures of Ren and join in on the fun.

    3. Thanks @vikulya and @lady tiku- - I had so much fun with the photoshoot yesterday! Totally going to take some more photos today.

Lady Tiku - the little tree is awesome! It's more suited for tinies, but couldn't resist having it in the photo.

    4. Here is my Iple House Amy and Benny enjoying their x-mas gifts! Violet (Amy) got headphones and a boom box and Sky (Benny) got a clipboard, paper and some pencils. The other girl is a Dollzone Annie, Astrid is just looking at her favorite Mark Ryden book.

    5. Benny looks as if she was listening to some good old hair metal :)

    6. Yeah, she probably has some pretty eclectic tastes! I plan on actually getting her scene kid clothing eventually.

    7. I haven't been on here in a while. Did you ever decide about the KDF head and Iplehouse body? I actually have a Winter 13 KDF head and a NS Iplehouse body from last year if you need comparison shots. I'm not a good photographer (and that's not me being modest), but I don't mind taking pictures Monday or Tuesday if you still need them.

    8. I was curious about how the head would look on a JID body originally, but it was very bobble-headed on my Owen. I still don't know if the Normal Skin for IH and Luts work at all since my only IH is SRS.

    9. Anyone know what size wig Owen wears (mine rarely wears a wig....and the one he has I made so I have no idea what size to actually buy)?? Is he a 7/8 or 6/7?

    10. According to Iplehouse, Owen wears a 6-7 /7-8 inch wig, guess it depends on if it is a loose fitting wig or tight fitting wig.

    11. My Owen wears size 6/7 Monique wigs.

    12. :D Thank you!! Not only info, but the info I was hoping lol the wig I want is Monique and I don't think they make it in 7/8.
      Thanks again!

    13. Let's talk about pants. ;) All I want are some nice casual jeans for my Daniel. NOT skinny jeans, but regular blue (or black) jeans that will fall over his cute black boots. I've bought 3 different pair now, and they are all too tight and/or too short. My budget is under $25. Suggestions?

    14. Iple makes black jeans that are slim-fit but not skinny-skinny, and those are only $29. They used to make the ultimate perfect relaxed-fit stonewashed or distressed blue denim jeans too, but sadly I don't see those on the website anymore. (Iplehouse are positively cruel about providing JID boy clothes.)

I've never bothered to even try buying non-Iplehouse pants for these guys, because the size of their butts is just in another stadium entirely from the rest of the normal BJD world. If you know any tailors, throw $25 at 'em and see what happens!

Just because now I've got those awesome bluejeans on my mind. <3

    15. I bought a pair of stretch jeans from Forever Virginia (I believe) and they fit my Owen like a dream. However, they do have a stretch waistband and the leg bottoms weren't hemmed (easy enough to fix).

    16. Heh my biggest pair of jeans are from TTYA, they're huge on everyone else, and don't go halfway up the thighs of my Owen.

He doesn't need jeans tho, just a nice suit. I can't even find a button down shirt that fits! Until I find one, he'll be in the Batcave or working out in sweats and a tee....(hopefully with a new wig!)

And barefoot because I don't have sneakers either!! Ha ha!

    17. I'm a very basic sewer. I can follow a pattern with instructions. ;)

    18. There are some on my blog, but I am afraid they don't come with very detailed instructions. Another suggestion would be to try BFC ink club doll pants from walmart. I have some brownish jeans from a set called pretty preppy or something, and they do fit the JID boys as well as the girls (bit on the tight side with the boys, though). But the quality is not that great. And I don't know if pants from other sets for these dolls fit. Maybe somebody else has some and could try if they do.

    19. Just popping in to share Roan (Sierra) as she deserves some love. She was painted by the incredibly talented Ban Sidhe. :) She's wearing 8mm glass eyes right now, as the ones she came with almost filled her entire eye. I think these make her look a little beady eyed, so I might order new ones. What do you guys think?

    20. oh thanks @ResinRapture ! I'll have to check your patterns out. I bet I could figure it out. :)

    21. If you find cheap pants that fit but are poor quality, take them apart carefully at the seams and use them as a pattern. Or check out pixiefaire.com. They have inexpensive, downloadable patterns for BFC Ink Dolls. Some of their basic patterns, like T-shirts and tank tops, are free. I would get one to try out, but it won't do me any good until I replace my printer.

    22. I have a question! Does anyone know if J.I.D. girls and Minifee girls can share shoes?

    23. @vermont chick I've tried them. If you use jersey for shirts they're huge for the girls.

    24. @littlegreycoconut, JIDs are decided larger than MNFs in every aspect. My JID and MNF boys can't share anything.....

    25. Thanks so much Kirahfaye, that helps a lot. :)

    26. Some knits are tighter than others. Have you tried a 4-way stretch knit (with Lycra added)? I find I get a nice snug fit with that for other patterns.

Do the jersey shirts work for the boys?

    27. They actually can share shoes! At least for flat feet. :) JID girls are bigger than Minifee girls pretty much overall, but their feet are about the same size. In fact, Minifee toes are actually just a little bit longer!

    28. Thanks Quirked, that's awesome! :)

    29. @vermont chick They are probably too short. I just tried the pattern once and maybe I really picked a jersey that was too stretchy.

    30. A last picture of Roan before things get busy for the weekend.

    35. I already saw Roan on fb, she's something special @littlegreycoconut. Somehow the sculpt is very different from the other JIDs. Maybe it's her eyes.
@Blablette Nice present and great model! I love the wig.

    36. Thank you, @ResinRapture ! ^_^ The wig is from Monique and perfect for Benny!

    38. I love the Leona sculpt.:love I think I need one in my life--or at least in my doll family.

    39. Wonderful girls and boys, everyone :)

    40. I love Leona as well. She's next on my Iplehouse list...

    41. "I want just one Iple. Alex we'll be the only one." -Equine-aurora, 2014.

      Well....OPPS.....these Ladies had other ideas.

(so tired of Photobucket messing up the quality when I shrink the pic, it didn't used to do this)

P.S. YES, Calanthe finally has her own body! No, it's not Iplehouse, and no it's not a Perfect match, but i'm hoping her head can be blushed to match better. I love her body. Also, skinner body means she can borrow clothes from dolls besides Fedora!

    42. @Ashemanu Candy looks much more mature like this, but a bit softer.

@equine-aurora haha.. I know the feeling. Me 2013. Now I have ..some.

    43. I got Soa the other day and I'm having a little issue with her. Her head is very floppy and it kinda seems like it's too small for her head? I'll show some pictures tomorrow but has anyone had problems with floppy heads and know what I can do to make it better?

    44. There are apparently issues known for floppy heads on JID girls at least. I've only really noticed it on my Asa, but it isn't too excessive so I barely notice it most of the time. Others would probably be able to advice more on whether there is a particular problem with Soa though.

If you can share some images, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you whether it is an overall JID issue or just your girl. Hoping it's something that can be fixed for you.

    45. The indent in my Violet's head is too shallow, so her head kind of sits atop her neck instead of the neck extending in some. It makes it hard to keep her head straight. It doesn't feel loose though. If yours keeps pulling to the left or right instead of falling left or right, that could be the cause. I'd like to add a picture, but photobucket is being a pain. The KID heads I have, you can't see the rounded top of the neck at all. My JID Violet you can see the edges of it . Do you think that might be your issue?

    46. @Forever I have Asa too and her head is a little floppy but not like Soa. Soa has a smaller head then Asa which might be making it worse?

@bluepita I think Soa definitely has the same problem as your Violet. Her head sits on top which Is probably causing her head to be so floppy and you can see the edges of the neck more then my Asa.

Here's a link to some photos I took of her and also some comparing her head to Asa. It seems that bluepita is right about the head sitting on the neck. I don't know how I could improve it though?
      Danu Head
      (I called my Soa Danu!)

    47. You certainly do get more mobility when the head sits high on the neck, at least!-- Many of my Iple men have an annoying lack of head-mobility because their heads are firmly on those big necks.

If you wanted to make the head-hole bigger so it sits lower on the neck, you'd have the hole sanded/beveled out. People who are good at modding wouldn't find this to be a huge job.

(Likewise, if I wanted my men's heads to sit higher on the neck, I might have their necks sanded so it had more pronounced rounding on the edges, so the head would rotate more. But they're all colored resin, so I won't be sanding them anytime soon. ^^)

But for a short-term fix-- sueding the head hole would keep the head from flopping around. I wouldn't add a KIPS disk, because they're thick, but a bit of hot-glue or suede should do the trick.

    48. I have been slowly sanding away, a little bit whenever I feel like it. That's not often, lol. I had a friend who brought her Asa to a meet. She swapped the heads, so I can definitely say it is the neck well not the neck.

    49. @JennyNemesis I think i'd rather have a stiff head, Soa's head is contantly flopping forwards and backwards and to the side, her head does not stay still. XD
I haven't done sueding before but i'll have to look into it.

I don't want to do any sanding, I don't really do any modding and wouldn't want to risk damaging her.

    50. If you are not sure about the sueding you could try moleskin or a double-loop of the string around the s-hook. But the sideways head-tilting with smaller heads like Violet, Isar and some others is something of a known head-neck compatibility issue, a floppy head is something different and might be fixed more easily.

    51. @ResinRapture I'll definitely look into sueding and the other things you mentioned as it seems the best fix for me right now.

I did ask iplehouse about this and got this response:

      "Dear Supernova,

Currently some of JID heads are little bit small on JID body.
For instance, Isar, Soa, Cecile, Violet and Sierra have small head so it can be little bit floppy on JID body.
In case of Asa, she has a bigger head compared to Soa so she can be more stable.

Sorry to disappoint you and we will try to find a way to make it more stable."

It's a little disappointing that they've made so many sculpts that are ill suited for the body but hopefully I can make Soa more managable.

    52. one of the problems is that one person designs the body while multiple ppl design heads. But at least we know more in terms of who is worst? ... not happy to see Sierra on the 'bad list ><

    53. Still, you would expect them to test the heads on the bodies before offering them for sale.

    54. Seriously...! How hard could that be?

    55. Glue sueding helped my girls, but what I find annoying is the way the top of the neck bulge shows with the smaller heads when their heads are turned. I find hair can hide it somewhat, but it's annoying to always have to pay attention to it and try and hide it.

    56. That's interesting and I'm glad I came in here to check about the JID girls heads and neck ratios.
Tania was always my favorite and I used to own her, didn't have a problem with any wobblyness.
But I'm disappointed to see Soa on that list, I really like her but I'm not much for quirky wobblyness :-/

    57. Has anyone here tried to add fantasy leg parts to a JID boy or girl? I'm considering making my Owen into a changling, but I don't know if I can add either faun, wolf or bird legs on him. I'm guessing Soom is going to be too small in scale, but I know there's Soul Doll and perhaps some others. I may have to make him into a bird changling and forego the legs since that would be the easiest, but I'm hoping for options.

    58. Thanks Resin Rapture. :) I agree there's something really special about this sculpt. I was also really blessed to have Ban Sidhe do her face up; she really brought Roan to life.
