Faceups Iplehouse Face-Ups: Promo/Custom design Pictures vs. Actual Face-Ups

So basically lighting in a photographs makes the difference so take or give a few shades and it's what buyers should receive, is this correct

Okay I think I understand now ppl weren't complaining about what they doll didn't resemble but it was very close to Iplehouse promotional photos shown on Website, is this about right milady?

 

That's right. Most of the slight differences come from resin tone. If the doll has darker resin, the colours will be suited to that of a darker resin doll.

 

I can't show it with any of my Iple dols but a have a pair of 'omg wow what a difference' pics of my Soul Doll. it ilustrates a sample of with and without flash. Without it's a nice soft gentle picture... WITH a flash the poor guy looks like a deer in headlights >< I'll give a link to the photo stream they are side by side in the stream and the difference is painfully obvious.
Enyu & Marauder - 20140123 (4) and Enyu & Marauder - 20140123 (5) show it best (big guy and tiger boy pics) the only difference is 'the flash'.

Lady Tiku, me so poor compare to your huge collection milady what a beautiful collection I have only have 5 Iplehouse dolls and hand full of Monster high, which doesn't count. I have a very very very long time to go before I have reach the level of your collection. I hate to know what that collection of beauties cost you. But I know from what I spent so far you probably was able to buy a small village...hehe

Well now I'm feeling a tab better, I felt so far behind when I took a pick at Lady Tiku vast collection, but I'm around the rate I need to be then only a few a year..hehe. Which ones you like collectimg EID, SID,JID, Or Just KID Hun.. I prefer the bigger girls myself EID, SID & JID are my favs

 

I love the bigger sizes too! Ember and Alex are both SIDs and my 3rd one will be an nYID boy. I plan on getting an nYID girl next after that. What Iples do you have?

 

Oh haven't seen Ember love to see a picture, that name is new to me but I've been only collecting for a little over a year..hehe. As far as my small collection it includes Vincent, Aria, Stella, Lahela and recently added Violet. Have coming Amy, Violet and Mari, which is my Grail Doll. Soon ill be looking to trade Aria off for another

 

Oh cool! I plan on getting a Mari on the nYID body later this year. I posted a photo of Ember in this thread, she's an Eva with a B faceup.

 

... I only have 2 Iples (and a spare EID body and a floating head for a nYID). Technically I only have in my posession 4 full dolls O_O... It will be 6 by March but only 3 will be Iple's.... That spare body throws ppl I think lol... I wanted Dex to be able to do either body even if I couldn't have 2 full dolls at the time. I will either get an extra head somehow or sell the body and just 'get' a full doll later. But until then I have options for body type. ^^

I am dying to see what Dexter's "special edition face lookes like in person though... his hair or hat was in the way in most shot of his eyes. His 'basic' seemed to have too much of an orange tint compared to the SE pics. ^^ I have an okay camera now so I will try to get some 'bald shots' of it. Any tips for getting accurate colors with no special lights (only whats hanging from the ceilings here ><) and it's to frigid to take any outside... not to mention the fact that only the side walk has no snow... everything else is pile 3 feet high by now -_- god I hate winter ><

It surely looked like alot more you had there, by the way do a EID head look weird when place on YID Body I here of ppl doing it and I know YID is alot smaller then EID dolls so how does one fit the other. I've always been curious about this detail.


Dexter must be a new Special Edition coming soon because it's my first time hearing of him. I only have Vincent from the Special Forces. Wish they added a female to the group as well it would be nice, unless they have and I've miss quite alot somehow which is very possible. But if you have a picture of Dexter please show Sooo interested in seeing him.

The weather been very harsh here lately as well ad even covers the sidewalk so it want be no outdoor pictures for me Either...lol. I recently upgraded to Nikon or similar with Wifi Camera not a good one but yes better than my iPhone which is what I was using before this Nikon camera which only cost $119.00 at Walmart so nothing fancy. Hopefully ill get a better camera because I've became more addicted to taking Iplehouse photos than just collecting Iplehouse dolls, not really but you get my drift its fun...lol

The only difference is his lips are a tad less orange-y and more brown in person, it shows a little in the pic.

 

UGH I can't see them on mobile. When I get home I'll fix it.

 

In my humble opinion, my Rex with A Faceup in realskin looks exactly as he is pictured on Iple's site...

 

Here is Doria, special edition faceup B. Shown on a peach gold model on the site, which is what my girl is as well.

Although the different eyecolor may make them look dissimilar, I can't detect any noticeable differences in the faceup itself.

 

Are they showing up now? I think I fixed it because I can see them.

I have a whole other computer since making the mocks for this face up back in 2010, but they really nailed this custom face up on Jessica.
I asked for smokey eyes and blushing. If I ever find the mocks I shall post them. They really captured the tenderness to her eyebrow. Natural looking but glossed lips.

Scott has a custom but the only thing different from Coco's defaults is the colouring and I asked them to add blush with freckles. They did a great job. His eyebrows are blonde and not brown as the defaults are but I asked that his lips be default.

I have to agree with Rex's default. I've never seen anything so spot on, every freckle is in exactly the same place on his forehead just about his right eyebrow and cheek just as the promo pictures are! The side whiskers are awesome and his nose has blush with very subtle freckles. I still can't stop staring at him 5 months later. It's the most detailed face up I own or have ever seen in person.

I have to agree about the Rex faces even with my sight I can see how dead on they are O_o... I need to get a good shot of my girls (Luna & I) are dead on too in my opinion. "I" had her default face with the 'eyes' from a different JID but the difference is so subtle it's hard to tell^^ which was exactly what I wanted. If I could get Luna's wig to style up I'm sure I could copy the promo pic (sans teddie)

I very rarely go with default company face-ups for my dolls, so it's a testament to Iple's skill that the majority of my IH dolls still have their defaults!

I don't have an example of custom make-up to show yet, but whenever my Ashanti ships, I'll be able to show an example of another doll's limited face-up (Stella's white-skin, red-lips face-up for her original release) on a different sculpt and skin color (Light Brown.)

First, I'll give you the one Iple face-up that I was DISsatisfied with, because I didn't like the thicker eyebrows and not-fully-painted lips (it changed her expression from a seductive, welcoming smile to kind of a distant look, and I almost sold her before deciding to get her repainted. Iple, BTW, would not refund me any portion of the face-up fee or allow me to send her head back to repainted -- I was unhappy with their customer service over this one issue.)

Rootedinvanity, I love your makeup suggestions, and I think they did a good job with her! Would love to see her in a wig with pulled-back hair someday, to get the full effect of the brows -- also, wow, LOVE that brow reference, I'm saving it!

Princesspink, your dolls are lovely! Are they all default IpleHouse face-ups? Were they from the special-edition or basic release? Are any of them custom? (Since this thread is to compare the Iple photos promising what the face-ups will look like to the actual result, that would be useful info.)

And, yeah -- I just could NOT get past that lower lip, it totally changed the expression for me. I'm really pleased with the repaint that Lyn did -- I just wish Iple had been willing to refund the $70 I paid for the face-up that got wiped, since it was clearly different from the promo pics. It's the one time I've ever been utterly furious with their customer service :/

(Several other people got face-ups that they were displeased with, right around the same time in 2011 -- so I think they may have changed artists, or may have had a junior artist who wasn't quite there yet working on the dolls for customers. Thankfully, since then, I think everyone has been pretty happy!)

Here is a custom faceup that Iplehouse did for me that I was VERY pleased with. Here is Zuko (a Shane!)

I supplied them the picture (from a deviantart artist's picture of a cartoon character drawn realistically). I asked though that the scar not cover quite as much space on his face and that he have both eyebrows. They even added texture to the burn scar. Of course I had to pay more for this special custom faceup, it was about double the cost of the basic ones but was worth it!

saw this before but I say it again... this was a freaking awesome job! And the texturing was such a great idea the THEY sugested! (yes I know they did) ^^. I can't help think who ever did this... knows the show. I really love this one

 

@Lady Tiku: I think using non-resin models as pegs work quite well for IH dolls since they are probably as close to real people as BJDs can get!

@Ashbet: We'll work on that for you!

 

Thanks - I am just so happy with him. I think some of the animators for the show were from a Korean animation studio so it is possible they were familiar with the show.

It seems that face-up is the same but the skin is different from promo (lighter and less yellow). I'm still thinking about skin - RS or LB

I can't seem to grab my IH pics.... but this is as close as it gets to dead on... the hair color makes it seem a bit different is all. This is also her new out of the box first days pics, I am still trying to come up with the wig and baby-doll from the IH site ><.

The only thing is that I thought Bibiane's eyebrows were more reddish, I should have chosen Bianca's eyebrow color instead. In the end it was fine, because my girl wears both red and blond wigs. I think Iplehouse did a great job with her, I'm very happy

In real life, the face-up is almost identical to the promo -- the only difference is that the eyeshadow is slightly more visible in person (it's like a bit of gold/green shimmer), but I think that it's less "different from the photo" and more "I didn't really notice it in the promo, but it's there when I go back to look."

OMG Your Victor really is stunning! I've ordered him with make up A and in RS, so I hope mine looks as good as yours

 

I brought my Addiction Stella.
She has grey tone and human faceup B. They are quite smiliar, the 2 big difference is that she has metalic blue eyeshadow over metalic silver. And her lips are more pinkish/magenta tone. Still, it was a huge surprise for me how great her faceup is. Originally i thought that the official faceup will be temporary, but now i think she will stay for this for a little while longer.

 

I think Iplehouse is very good at matching their faceups to their photos.

Here is my SF Rex in Light Brown Skin with B Makeup... my lighting is crappy, which accounts for the color shift from the official photo...

Only bit of surprise was my Basic Carina, whose lips looked pinker than the photos... I think I posted that here before. But the style was the same as photos, and her skin color was different, so I think that accounted for the color-shift.

Most doll companies seem to be pretty good at matching faceups. There are a few that aren't so great (I've heard Ringdoll can vary a little), but I never hear complaints of that about Iplehouse.

Iplehouse does seem to use some very shiny gloss that I don't really see in the official photos... It's probably my lighting, again, but I always get a lot of shine off the lips and eyelids on my guys--particularly my NC Tedros... But that's not a horrible thing... and if really bothers me, it's an easy fix.

 

Oh man I can already totally see a trip back to Iplehouse for a custom faceup happening sometime in the future, and I haven't even gotten my first doll yet haha (just ordered).

I got my Eddie today. He has a custom faceup. It's his basic option B with Bianca's freckles and redder eyebrows. They got it spot on.

I'm now seriously considering ordering the two I want with faceups! Or my Erzulie, at least, since I really like the two default faces available for Erzulie. Their faceups are beautiful.

 

While cruising the Iplehouse website I came across a story for step by step face-up painting for Bliss. You need to be a member to view it, but if you sign in then go to Iple Talk, then Editors Story, then Bliss's Special Real Skin Makeup you can see the Iplehouse process and towards the end it explains that some of their faceup artists have more experience and don't take as much time to do a faceup, and also how Rex takes longer because ofmore detail.

I enjoyed seeing the process and am glad they shared it.
