2. Some spam for the new thread.....

3. ooooh, brand new thread!!!

Ok, I'll put here a cute Emma with her crocheted blue dress (soon I'll post the new one in lilac I'm making now, slightly modified ^^)

[IMG]Crochet dress for B.I.D. by black_enid, on Flickr

aaaaand I'll take advantage to ask: do the jeans from Dollmore (Dear Doll) fit female BID? As for waist and hips it should be fine, the only doubt I might have is the tight circumference, even if I think they should fit, but if someone has tried them I'd be veeeery grateful ^^

4. Bono spam for the new thread:

5. Lovely photo of Bono, the dragon looks so cute peeking over that book. :)

6. Wonderful photo! I love it!

7. ugh... so many priorities... but I WANT a BID... so cute >< but I 'must' wait. I also love the dark brown... is it the one called Ebony? I seem to recall a shade darker though? But it's ... Okay it looks yummy like a chocolate Easter bunny lol I wish I had a place for a darker doll in my plans... but it will have to wait until I fill the 'plans' first :( But I can get a paler one sooner I hope lol And Bono is growing on me... I need to see some good 'boy' Bono's ... Up to now Bonnie has been my choice for boy face so far...

8. Ebony is Iple's darkest skin tone. Give in and get a BID. Give iiiin! ;)

My Bono is a girl, so I can't help with your request. I don't actually have a boy BID. Maybe I should fix that.

9. LOL I will give in eventually lol... just not until CH2 is done eating my wallet... or to 'help' it.... ie... BID with limited stuff lol... That's how I got my KID Peach lol...

I really wish you could headswap BID's and KID's :( (CDS style that is)

10. Thank you both! The photo is for the time travel story on my blog. I haven't posted this chapter yet because I'm waiting for my Aileen Doll dragon to arrive, which will mean retaking a bunch of photos. Much as I love the little purple dragon, it's a static figure so it can only sit there and look cute. I need for my dragon to do things, which the articulated and poseable AD dragon can do.

Love your girl, clochette! Wish now I had bought my Erzulie in ebony--it's such a rich, luscious color.

11. I dressed my Bono as a boy. I think Bono would make a great boy with a more neutral faceup. Mine is waaaaayyy pink, so it doesn't really work. That's why I went with black and white for the photo.

[IMG]Bono Boy by dancingbeedolls, on Flickr

12. oooh! that does work! A very sweet vulnerable boy (which I can use ^^) Bono goes on my 'boy' list! She is cute as a he! lol and the b&w makes it feel like an early 70's or 60's childhood pic (to me at least ;p)

13. That's the first "boy" Bono I've seen. You're right--a more neutral faceup would really work. The B/W photo is fun!

14. What a beautiful photo. Your Bono does look wonderful as a boy.

I love it when people share photos like this, it's inspirational, thank you Dancing Bee. :)

15. Thanks you guys!! A boy Bono is now on my wishlist. :)

16. Edwin type A face
Oscar type B face
Juan type B face with less arched eyebrows....
and of course the Bonnie Boy style with less pink lips....

I think those would make good boy face ups? even on a BID or KID... it's hard for me to decide make ups lol... (I agonized over my Leo lol) and I know I'll need 'little boys' some time in the future and likely in PG but IH just does not do much in the way of "labeled" boy face ups.... if they do a 'boy' version at all O_o...

I think they should have a make up archive where the 'general' concept is done but not necessarily on a doll but like a color layout & pallet is done on a simple drawing face... >< ugh not sure if that even makes sense...

17. Yeah, that would be super handy, if you could pick the color you wanted on the lips, eyebrows, eyelashes, blush, freckles....probably too complicated a process though. Maybe they will have a more "boy" faceup when they release Bono as a basic? Which I'm assuming they plan to do.

18. when the did the 'Bonnie' page the took down the actual Bonnie as a boy pics and used the 'Blair dress & Garden dress' and both samples are long blonde hair girls O_o... the boy pics wound up under "iple bjd - doll story - style review" ... I think they need both when the doll is no longer under a 'character' driven look .... but I'm anal about this kind of organization lol.

And I'd be happy with a data base of faces they already 'have' done... not just parts...

EDIT:
images like this... line drawings for the face and then the make up design on that... sorry for the size didn't know how to change it ><
[IMG]

19. I can't resist throwing in this photo from my doll group's Easter meet-up. Ringo is the only sculpt I have in both girl and boy form. Both have Iplehouse face-ups. It's hard to see here, but the boy face-up is quite different, i.e., more colorful and grumpier looking. (Although when push comes to shove, I find it's his sister who tends to be the aggressor.)

Sibling rivalry is the name of the game.

20. I love my Ringo too. This morning he went to pick some scillas. "Mmmm...they sure smell nice!"

21. That's so sweet! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I just don't understand why Iple discontinued this sculpt. Are we the only ones who bought Ringo?

22. Even if you were, how much space could a head mold take?

23. Unfortunately I missed out on getting a Ringo, I love his little pout.

Here's a snap of Ebony practicing on her Cello.

24. You rarely see him/her anywhere. To be quite honest, I was never interested in getting Ringo - until they decided to discontinue the sculpt. And even then I waited right past the last second, when he was still up on their site the day after he was supposed to be discontinued.

That's a very good point.

I was worried his pout would be restrictive for photos, but it's not at all. In fact I find with Ringo being so 'expressive', all my other dolls seem rather 'bland'.

Your Ebony looks so cute with her cello.

25. Ringoooooo! Also can't understand why Iple discontinued the little cutie, it's the most unique realistic Tiny sculpt I've ever seen. So glad I snagged a Ringo head, but she's still without a faceup and it will be some time before she gets a body (although she has a cart full of clothes incoming, even without a body....I see how this relationship is going to play out).

As she doesn't have a face or body, all I can offer is a blank sculpt photo:

26. Love this photo, although I must say Ebony looks like she would rather be outdoors playing than stuck inside practicing. Is she an Efreet? I'm always amazed when I see owner photos of this sculpt because it is so cute. I really didn't like Efreet's original debut as an Elemental Guardian, but Ebony is adorable. So is your Efreet, MB Lilac.

Chizzie_shark, your Ringo is full of personality, even without a faceup.

Wouldn't it be nice if Iplehouse held a body-only sale so people could complete their floating heads? They took the trouble of selling off extra heads. If you don't want to hybrid with another company's body, what are you supposed to do?

27. Oh I wouldn't say your other dolls are 'bland', I think they all are rather special in their own way, but Ringo does have that something extra. :)

Ebony thanks you, she has a concert coming up soon.

Thank you. Well you know what kids can be like, they hate to practice sometimes. :) Yes, she's an Efreet, it took me a little while to find her character, but she fits in well now and I'm so pleased I got her.

28. So many serious looking kiddos! I didn't know so many folks owned Ringos, and they're all so unique. MBLilac, that field looks so beautiful, nothing like that here in drought-ridden southern California.

I honestly don't understand why *all* companies don't offer bodies separately, especially those who do event plates/heads or sell heads separately. It makes zero sense to me. I hate having to search on the secondary market.

Thank you! I love the Iple dark brown colors, they're so stable...my Aaron and Cocori are in the old "dark tan/brown" color, which is an amazing shade. I really wish they still offered it as an option. I love Erzulie's color, but she's a bit darker than they are:

29. What to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon...

So many fun pictures in the new thread. Love seeing all the different skin tone colors and "rarer' sculpts.

30. That's such a sweet photo. :thumbup

31. Xanadu Dolls, how sweet musical girl!
clochette , your pair is amazing! Wonderful!
sisen , very nice scene! I love it!

My little Bono:

32. Thanks Xanadu!
Hee hee, she looks like a handful Meotis, โ€‹what a cutie!

33. Meotis - what a cutie! And such a great photo! She looks like a real little girls out watering the plants in spring, especially since the flowers are just the right scale.

34. Yes, sisen , thank you very much, you are right!

MB Lilac , thanks for your so kind words! It is special pleasure for me, because I always admire your dolls and photos.

35. I got a new lens for my camera and was trying it out, so here is Effie:

She's a WS Efreet; I recently gave her a new wig and eyes.

36. pretty girl, those are lovely eyes!

37. Awesome photo, ktk8! And I love the new wig. If I had any sense, I'd have bought a new camera instead of another doll, because I can't get close-ups that sharp and clear.

38. Wow ktk8, she's beautiful, seriously beautiful!

I finished another crocheted dress for Emma and I am quite happy about it ^^

39. ktk8, what a little lovie! Those eyes looks wonderful, sometimes the darker purple eyes overpower these little faces, but your girl looks natural and lovely with them.

Enid, your dress turned out marvelous and your little one looks so pleased to have it!

40. Thanks. :) Effies eyes are actually a little lighter in person than they look here - and they are fairly cheap acrylics as well. But I've been trying some glass and soft-glass, and just haven't liked the results as much as what she's wearing now! Here is another one from that session, this time of Effie and Bojana (LB F.Byuri), who also has new eyes and wig:

41. ktk8, what eyes your Effie has? beautiful.

42. Question for you: I have that same polka dot dress on my Byuri. Is the hem supposed to be lower on one side than the other? Iple no longer has the dress on their website so I can't check there. My dress looks lop-sided. If it's not supposed to be that way, I'll need to make some alterations. I have the JID version as well and its hem is the same length all around. All my photos of Byuri in that dress have her seated so you can't see the hem. I'm recharging my camera battery as we speak. As soon as it's done I'll take a full-length photo.

And here it is. The dress dips noticeably from the left side to the right front. The back (which you can't see) is short.

43. It could one of two things (or both).
First of all the clothes are mass-produced, as quickly as possible, so quality can be inconsistent. On such a small skirt, cutting even a 1/4 inch shorter or longer, or making hems fluctuate in width can make a huge difference.
Secondly, the skirt looks like it's cut as a circle, and those are notoriously difficult to hem nicely. And with a circle cut the same length all the way around, the parts on the bias are apt to stretch and hang longer. But the dress is very small, so I don't know if that would have any effect. In larger skirts with heavier fabrics it's definitely an issue.

44. what martha said ;)... but since you were talking about making alterations i assume you can sew (i'm on so many threads i can't remember which threads i know which people from, so excuse me if i was also just chatting to you recently on the sewing thread! lol) i would say if it bothers you go ahead and fix it whether it was "supposed" to be asymmetrical or not. that way it would match her big sister/mother? or you could decide you like the asymmetrical look and just leave it that way. either way i would make the decision based on what you like rather than what you think it should be.

45. Mine isn't noticiably uneven. It is a circle skirt and as I haven't ironed it yet, it doesn't hang perfectly, but I just looked closely and it's fairly even.

You could try blocking yours - get a piece of board you can push pins into firmly, lay down several layers of plain muslin, soak the dress thoroughly and then gently stretch and pin it into the correct, even shape - it needs to be tight and firm. Leave it to dry naturally; when it has dried, it should now keep it's shape. The technique is used in embroidery and patchwork more than dress making, but works well, although you'll need to iron it afterwards.

46. MB Lilac, auntbear, ktk8: Thanks for your suggestions. I might try blocking it to see if that helps, before I try re-hemming. Another odd thing about it: the seamstress attached one end of the Iplehouse label to the bottom of the zipper and the other end to the bottom of the hem, which makes the back of the dress pucker and pull. The attached slip is caught up in this mishmash, too. If I hadn't bought this dress on sale I'd be hopping mad! I hate paying for something and then having to fix it.

47. cute story and the girls did an amazing job on the cake!

48. MB Lilac, that's a beautiful reproduction of your grandson's cake. Best of all, you can bring it out again next year. (Assuming it's Sculpey and other non-edible stuff.)

49. Thanks! They did, didn't they

Thanks! The 'cake' is styrofoam, drywall compound, paper, and Sculpey bugs. I don't think I'd want to try making something so small edible. I'm going to have a whole bakery's worth by the end of the year.

50. Thanks Meotis. :)

ktk8: I like Effie's eyes, the colour is very pretty. :thumbup

Loved the story and the photos Martha! That cake is to die for, I wouldn't mind a piece of it myself! LOL! :aheartbea

51. Thanks! The 'cake' is a miniature copy of the one my sister and daughter made for my grandson's first birthday back in February. I thought the design would be cute for a toad too.

52. Delightful Martha! Thank you for taking the time and going to all the effort to make this most enjoyable photo story. Someday you'll have to print a compilation book of all your favorite photo stories.

53. MB Lilac this (the story part) soooo deserves to be a 'children s story book'! Something totally original in storytelling ^^. Like a 'little golden book' type ^^ you really could sell this lol

54. Squee! I can finally share pictures of my little Amhar :D...

I'm ashamed to confess that I have had him here for more than six months and never got round to doing anything with him... He came with a face-up by his previous owner, and though it didn't suit the character I had in mind, I never even removed it. I took him out just the once, to get him some basic stuff at a doll fair, where he ended up scoring a pair of underpants. I felt very guilty, neglecting the poor cute thing - but in the meantime I'd moved, taken up art school twice a week... All my dolls were kept waiting.

Now, last week somehow I couldn't stand it anymore. I wiped my boy's old face-up, gave him a new one that really looks like him (and he was such a joy to paint, too! I love that old Real Skin), and made him a set of clothes. And here he is: my Efreet, called Amhar.

[IMG]Amhar by severelysigune, on Flickr

He is so adorable! I could slap myself for not removing his face-up sooner -_-. Back when I bought him off the MP, I chose him almost randomly because he was in Europe. I had been trying to make my mind up about a BID and could never choose between Serca and Elin, so I thought, what the heck, I'll take what I can find, they are all so cute. And I certainly love my Efreet - especially since I discovered that his mouth is slightly open, so I could paint in little buck teeth ;). I have a feeling he will be going places with me now...

55. Well he was worth the wait! You've done a lovely job. :) Love to see a pic of those toothy pegs though (I have soft spot for teeth).

56. Thank you, Xanadu Dolls! I am very fond of doll teeth too XD... Amhar's were not easy to paint, the space between his lips was so tiny. I have no idea how the teeth of the pixie in your userpic got painted at all!

Here is a photo in which you can see Amhar's buck teeth a little better. I have to resist taking him everywhere with me... I feel like slipping him into my pocket. But then what would he do, sitting in my pocket all day :p?

57. I have Efreet myself, so can imagine how difficult it would be, but you did it so well, it all looks so natural!

Ah, they were all due to the talented "petitemarine", she did the beautiful face up on my Luna.

I know the feeling, but he would probably get bored and poke holes in the bottom of your pocket to escape. Ha ha!

58. Such a wonderful cake!!

I love his teeth! Great outfit too!
