Dec 1, 2009

    1. I wanted to extend a personal invitation to you for the Ball Joint Doll Collectors Convention in Austin, Texas in the United States to be held August 5,6,and 7, 2010.

We are in our 4th year of hosting this convention. This year's theme is "Carnivale" and it covers three days beginning August 5th, 2010. There is an opening reception, a two day sales floor (one day for the attendees only and the second day as a Public sales day), competitions, workshops, door prizes, swap meet, room shopping and more! Our banquet will be held on the last night for attendees and their dolls.

The convention registration price per person is $140.00 or $135.00 if paid by check. Included in the registration package is food for the convention events, convention souvenir bag and other convention goodies. A limited edition outfit will be available for purchase separately. There is a convention hotel rate at the South Park Omni of 89.00 per night which is available to all attendees.

    2. Registered today! Anyone else going????

    3. Yay, I'm excited! I always have a blast! I'll be able to buy things because I'll have a job. Not a broke college student anymore ;)

    4. Ooo I may be driving by then :D and it's right before my birthday! I might try going :D

    5. Is there a final date for registration? I would actually love to come down for this but am not quite sure if I will still be in the country then, it all depends on Visa renewals

    6. Do you know anything about special dietary needs and how the hotel will (or if they can) handle those? The concern is allergies (bad allergies).

      Thanks,
      ~Shannon

    7. I just wanted to let everyone know that if you are too poor for the $140 door fee, come on Saturday and shop with us anyway! Traditionally the sales floor has been open to the public. :)

    8. Hi Shannon -

I have my own dietary issues - I can say from my own experience this hotel is GREAT. As long as I have prior notice of your particular needs - we, the convention organizers, can make special arrangements.

Anyone with specials requirements needs to let me know in their registration paperwork and then talk to me at Registration to remind me. We do have a vegetarian option at all the meal events but I do need to order those in advance.

For my own needs, I am milk, red meat and wheat intolerant. That makes it TOUGH - but I do manage!

hope you get to come to Convention!
      Sherri

    9. Registration will be closed early if we reach our maximal capacity number.
Hope you can make it! that would be awesome!

The dates for the convention are Aug. 5 - 7th of 2010.

    11. Looking forward to it! Always the best of everything!

    12. Pam will definitely be there. As for me, still waiting on our final calendar for 2010/11 to be approved, but the current proposal looks good. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    13. Keeping my fingers crossed too!

Would not be the same without you :)

    14. Oh! :) I have to see if my parents will let me go, this sounds like fun!

    15. I wish i could go.. i totally would if i could... but im not sure if im leaving soon after that... i hope there will be photos to see afterwards :)

    16. Unfortunately, I'm unconfirmed about attending/vending this year. Erik will not be able to attend so I will be without a travel companion, roommate and helper for my booth. As well, I am currently bidding on my first house, so my money and time may have to be devoted to the renovations for a few months and thus seriously cutting into my stock production time. I am going to see if I think I can swing it, but it looks like I may have to pass this year, which I reeeeeally hate to do. I always have such a blast!

    17. If you drive like a Cullen, there is no excuse!
      Love your avatar!

    18. The DFW group plans on doing our day trip on Saturday again to shop and visit with doll friends.

    19. Hi! We're having a salesroom table but I guess that is different from what you do with a booth. We possibly could use a roommate though....

    20. I just sent my registration and application for a sales table (big step for me!) and it's been several years since I went to the BJDC in Roundrock. Lots of fun and sensory overload of beautiful dolls!
If anyone needs an extra room mate to share their hotel room please consider me :)

    21. I wanna go SO BAD... but I will most likely be in my job training school for the Navy. :doh

    22. I whish i can go there :...(

But I live in Denmark, so it will cost me a zillion dollars to come :(
So i whish that there will be a BJD convention here some day :D

      Big hugs from Tinna

    23. I wish everyone who wanted to could come!

      :(

    24. It's definitely in my plan to be there!!!! WooHoo!

    25. Hey, ashburyblu :) It looks like St Louis is planning to have a good-sized group there this year!

    26. If only I had the money to go :( It is right before my birthday too

    27. GRRRR!! Why is it so far away!! They should have it towards the middle of the US so that everyone can go. :(

    28. We'll see. We'll see. I want to go with my dolls, but I wouldn't know if I can ever make it until it's closer to the con. By the way, anybody from Houston is planning to go? I wouldn't like to go alone very much.

    29. I'm hoping to go, cherie. Which reminds me, I'm a slow worker-I need to start planning costumes.

    30. I am way too lazy that I never get anything done too.

    31. OK, this will be my 1st time.... Are the costumes for you and/or your bjds???? I'm clueless....

    32. For the dolls, for the costume competition.

I'm not lazy so much as taking classes. XD A lot of classes. And I make all my own patterns and stuff, so that adds time to it.

    33. Oh yay! I will be there.... and must start designing costumes. So excited!!!!

    34. I'm going and I can't wait. I've wanted to attend a bjd con forever.

    35. Is the vendors' area really open to everyone for no charge? :O

    36. This year, especially, costumes are encouraged for both your doll and you for the masked ball banquet. I plan to wear one myself, just for fun, as the theme is Carnivale. I love to swan about in costume.

    37. Maybe a mask.... I'm not much of a swan.

    38. Lol! Masks are good too! Attendees don't have to dress up at all, but we thought it might be fun to suggest the option. This is a very casual and relaxed convention; no pressure to do anything except play with dolls and have fun.

    39. But my dolls, on the other hand, are very heavily costumed.... Check my picture album....

    40. Awesome outfits! I need to get busy and sew something for my doll to wear.

    41. I have family in Austin. Even though I am back at school then (teacher) I think I am going to try and make this convention. Bookmarked this thread.

    42. I am still fighting for the new visa, so I will try to be there, keep my fingers crossed gy=uys, I may be able to join everyone for my first con

    43. I got my fingers crossed for you! hope it all works out :)

    44. I will be there with tons of lovely fashions to sell. It's my first and I can't wait!!! I am also a teacher, but it is literally the weekend before we have to report back! What a great way to end the summer break!

    45. hmmmmm...I am not sure now if I would be considered a professional or an amateur.

    46. So, is there still going to be a diorama category or is it just not happening this year? Or would you be able to use a set and have it be under just general costuming?

    47. There is no diorama category this year --- BUT props and sets can be used -- it just must fit into the 24 inch square that is the space requirement. Sherri

    48. I am sorry to be slow to get our Banners webpage up... but Finally .... it is!

    49. I am very excited to announce that CEO of DollHeart, Pasu Lau, will be our special guest in August at the convention. As an added treat, our favorite US Representative for DollHeart, Ms. Cholong will be attending too! Ms. Cholong is a lovely person to be around and always entertaining. I can't wait!

Where did all the time go!

We still have a few registration opening left ... email me if you are interested! Sherri

    50. Hi all -

The convention is almost sold out of registrations spots. I anticipate being sold out before our deadline in July, 2010.

Please talk to me before you send me money --- I may not have a spot left.

If you have any friends who wanted to come, and who have not contacted me - please have them talk to me FIRST.

I am going to post this on our yahoogroup, iDolls and ZoZ.

      Best wishes -

    52. Thought I would post here as well since my Yahoo groups does not work correctly and I cannot re-register!

I have my tickets and hotel reservations so I am good to go! I have been thinking about this for quite a well and am glad I decided to attend! I am hoping to see lots of folks there that I only know by name. It will be nice to have a face to go with the name for a change!

Thank you for all your hard work on this Sherri. I know it must take a lot of work to pull off something like this.

    53. Yeah! I am going. Just booked my flight. I agree with you dollwest, I too am hoping to see lots of DOAers I know by name only.

    54. WooHoo - I'm going!!!!! Can't wait!

    55. I'm interested in going for the Saturday, but I can't register this year. :( Next year, though, I will! I just found out about it too late. :( I have a question about the Saturday Sales floor. It's open to the public, but will I need a fee to get into the con at all? Kind of how A-Kon has 1 Day membership passes avaliable. I'm sorry if that's a silly question. ^_^;

    56. The Saturday sales floor is held in a big conference room off the lobby of the hotel. You do not have to pay to come in to the hotel or the sales room on Saturday. The rest of the convention events are only open to attendees.

    57. Thank you, linakauno! If you have been before, may I ask another question? In regards to the theme, how many people usually dress their dolls accordingly? Or is it really for a certian part of the convention? I can sew a little bit, and I wouldn't want Josslyn to be underdressed, lol.

EDIT: Again, sorry for any stupid/obvious questions. I'm rather shy in social situations and don't want to look stupid. I'd rather look silly here!:sweat

    58. The theme stuff is mainly for convention attendees. There is a competition where people enter their dolls in theme costumes for awards and at the end of the convention on the last night, there is a dinner where the banquet room is decorated according to the theme and many people dress their dolls and sometimes themselves to go with it. At all other times during the convention weekend, people dress their dolls and themselves in whatever they wish. Basically, the convention is a big meetup lasting several days where people meet together informally and chat about dolls and also have the opportunity to buy great stuff for ball joint dolls from talented vendors. Selecting a theme is just for the fun of it. This year and in the past, we have attempted to come up with themes that inspire and spark our imagination. It's lots of fun to see the wonderful costumes and dolls that people enter in the competition. On the sales floor, just wear whatever you wish and bring your doll to try on clothes.

    59. WooHoo to your WooHoo!!! I need a little excitement in my day today!
      :)
