    1. Hi all! I’m Jess and I’m new-ish. I’m just getting comfortable with navigating the website and further acquainting myself to the world of BJDs.

      I’ve had an on-again, off-again fixation since I was a teen, and I figured ‘I’m an adult and I’ve got adult money!’ So I pulled the trigger and ordered myself one off of Alice’s Collections (Merlin Charm Doll, which I think is no longer available on the site?)

      I am about the most impatient person I know, so in order to try and scratch this itch while I wait for my doll, I’ve been dabbling in faceups. I’ve ordered a few very cheap and generic blank heads on AliExpress. They’re not recasts as far as I can tell and went for >$8 a pop. Please inform me if I’m mistaken and I will stop patronizing these shops.

      Anyways, I’m recognizing that I’m beginning to write a novel, so I’ll cut myself off here. Attached is a link to images of my first completed faceup in all its glory. Feedback is welcome, but please be gentle, lol. [Redacted link]

      I’ve received refunds from AliExpress. I know it’s not much, but l don’t want any part in supporting recast sellers. I plan to put my $ toward legitimate practice heads, and if anyone has any particular recommendations, I’d love that.

    2. Welcome! Waiting for your first doll is very exciting! I hope it arrives fast :3

      Unfortunately, the cheap heads you've found on AliExpress are very likely recasts - aside from the blind box bjds that are off-topic here, Ali/Temu/Amazon don't carry any legit jointed dolls. If you need a practice head without the long wait, most dealers have some heads in their in-stock sections :) There should be a list of stores and dealers in DoA wiki.

    3. Well dang, that makes me sad. I bought two 1/6 non-string ones (the heads came with bodies) awhile back, but I definitely won’t use AliExpress for these any longer. Thank you so much for letting me know. I super appreciate how kind you were about it, too.
      Also, thank you for the resource! I’ll check out the listed stores/dealers. Would you happen to have any particular recommendations (I’m in the US)?

    4. Denver Doll Emporium and Jane's Dolland are both in the US and have good service. And you are already acquainted with Alice's Collections that are super responsive and offer affordable/free shipping.

      If you want a practice head, DDE has some Resinsoul parts in stock that are affordable, Jane's has Imomo heads in stock usually (they are vinyl and off-topic in DoA but still good to practice faceups with) and Alice's currently has some discounted Myou heads available ready to ship. None of them are exactly $8 but you won't have to worry about them being counterfeits :)

    5. I definitely get impatience! I ordered two dolls months ago, and they're still in production. So I shamelessly bought a doll secondhand so I could have one sooner ;^^ she's adorable and I love her, so it's fine, haha.
