Introduction and Dollmaking Plans

Apr 8, 2009

    1. Hello, I'm Mel, and I'm a fine arts major at UNC right now.

I got involved in the BJD hobby by a rather unusual route - as I was exposed more to garage model kits when I started out back in Singapore, and my interest in dolls is one of modification and customization. I probably will take a more garage-view of the doll hobby than most other fans, which is why I'm so hands-on with my current bought BJDs.

Right now I'm working out the drafts and sketches for a 63-65cm tall mature female doll with as much articulation as I can work into the body without adversely affecting the visual line of the doll. I like the challenge that these ideas present.

I plan to work my main body in LaDoll or Premier stone clay, and then cast a basic master in resin to refine the fiddlier jointing and magnet mechanisms in. Hopefully I'll be able to dragoon some of my sculpture teachers into giving me some supervision and guidance when it comes time to use the pressure pot and vacuum chambers.

I may lapse back into Observer status from time to time as I'm currently still busy with midterms and intend to take summer classes. However, I do intend to finish this project as time permits.

      - Mel
