Hello everyone! I have had an interest in BJDs for years now, and was referred to the site as one of the best resources for learning about and discussing them. While I've never owned a proper resin doll, I have purchased some blind box PVC dolls and really enjoyed posing them and such -- I have also ordered my first MJD as well so you may find me chatting in the Off-Topic boards. About myself... I'm a creative person at heart. I enjoy writing and creating OCs, which is likely what drew me to the concept of dolls! Being able to express myself is something very important to me, and I'd like to have dolls that represent important characters that I've created throughout my life, and being able to dress them up in outfits I feel suit them would be really fun as well. In my free time, I like to read visual novels or play relaxing games such as MMORPGs or Satisfactory while listening to Podcasts. I'm also a foodie at heart, and would like to one day travel outside the country to try different food around the world. I hope you all are willing to welcome another newbie to the hobby and are able to deal with the possibly million questions I have, as I've truly have wanted to learn about BJDs for a long time!
Hi welcome! This place is great learning more about BJD's. There is a lot of good resources available if you have questions about the dolls. I have a few PVC blind box dolls as well, they are very cute. There is a place to post them in Brigadoon, the off topic forum board. I am sure you can find a lot of answers to your questions!
Hello! Welcome from the UK! It’s a slippery slope when you get into dolls. I started with porcelain when I was a kid, my dad would buy them for me but they were too fragile. Then I moved on to fashion dolls and that eventually led me here thanks to some friends who had them. I’ve been in the hobby for quite some time now and it has changed so much. Glad to have you here! Do you have any favourite companies yet? I spend a lot of time checking here and Alice Collections to see what’s new. I’ve gone a bit over board recently and bought a few new dolls and now I have some incomplete characters but I’m working on them. XD Hardest part for me right now is trying to find the right outfits. I love fantasy but the clothes can be hard to find.
@RabbidBunnies Thank you, & I agree! Blind box dolls were great as a newcomer to the hobby, to see if I would end up liking them as much as I thought. I also still really enjoy the creativity of some of them! My first purchase was from the Kukaka Insect Cafe Series after seeing pictures of them shared online -- I adored all the designs of that series and still have my girl posed on my desk! @LikablePlatypus Thanks so much! Haha, I can tell, I'm trying my best to wade into the hobby responsibly. I don't know if I ever gotten a chance to own a doll when I was younger, I was more into stuffed animals as a kid but always admired the beautiful dolls I'd see in antique stores and such. As for favorite companies, I've definitely done some lurking and right now the ones that intrigued me the most were Ringdoll, Asleep Eidolon, Coralreef Doll, and Soom ^^ I especially love Coralreef Doll's Fulala, she's absolutely beautiful.
Soom was my gate way doll. >3> My friend took me to a meet up and someone had a Soom Mylo in white and he was the cutest thing in the world! I ended up getting my first doll after meeting him. I finally got a Mylo second hand and I still absolutely love her! I have a Ringdoll as well but I don’t collect in SD sizes and they usually do military or Asian inspired dolls which aren’t really in my style. I have a Ringdoll Minana which is probably my biggest MSD, though she might rival my brand new Dream Valley Hylander in height. I haven’t seen Coral reef’s Fulala, I’ll have to look it up. Edit: Just looked her up and she is so cute! I love her eye shape and her outfit! Definitely a nice doll to choose from.
@LikablePlatypus Both Soom Mylo and Ringdoll Minana are gorgeous choices I immedately recognized Minana in your signature!! I looked up Dream Valley Hylander and she's absolutely stunning as well, especially the beast version!! The sculpt reminds me a lot of the character Wuk Lamat from Final Fantasy XIV, a character I deeply adore for her design. The first Soom BJD I had seen was an OC using Soom's Ray & Luna sculpt, with the Romantic Fantasy head! I adored how the face looked in photos and it lead to me looking through most of their catalog ^^ I'm also glad you agree regarding Fulala! She has a very dramatic, gothic design that I adore. The curved eye shape at the bottom is one I didn't see in many dolls, especially in her size, and it gives her a very unique look!
Soom wasn't my gateway bjd per se, but very early on someone brought a Beryl to a large local bjd meet early into the hobby, had a couple of bjds by that time. But after that I concentrated on Soom releases my first I think new was Chalco Welcome to DoA!
