Hello! I'm Freyja, and I recently got back into BJDs after a long time of taking a break from the hobby (I just didn't have the time and energy to spend on hobbies bc of academics). Now that I've changed my major to something I'm more passionate about, I find that I also can engage with other things I'm passionate about -- namely, my dollies Some basic stuff: I'm 22 years old, and I live in the Pelican state! I love anime and video games, and my dolls are all meant to be original characters for series I like, or just my own version of canonical characters. My fav games are Genshin Impact, Arknights, and Crusader Kings III. My fav animes are Fate Stay/Night (Heaven's Feel best route), Hetalia, and Sailor Moon. I also love classic literature and folklore, especially Arthurian Legend (in part thanks to Fate, but also my 7th grade English teacher). Disney princesses too -- I really wish the Volks Ariel doll wasn't so darned expensive! Oh, and I suppose I should mention I'm on the autism spectrum (in specifics, I have Aspergers). It's an undeniable part of my identity, no matter how I try to escape it -- so I've decided to embrace it, rather than run from it. I also draw sometimes, and write stories, but I have a feeling most of us on this forum are artists. My fav doll brands are Volks Dollfie Dream, Smartdoll, Luts and Iplehouse. I just wish they had male anime dolls like DD or SmartDoll ;v; I'd love to have a doll of someone like Dottore, Tartaglia or Gawain!
Welcome! I hope you enjoy your time here and with your bjds! I have some recommendations for you. There are more male anime style bjds these days, although many of them still on the young and cutie looking side like DD Kaito. but now you can buy the male DD body with dream choice orders, maybe hopefully if they become more popular we would someday see a mature male DD bod?! one can dream... Although off topic for this forum, you may have seen SmD has been gearing up to bring back males, there's a SmD thread in Brigadoon (offtopic) area to chat about them. You maybe would like Vings because they have some anime males with more mature face. If you like a little more on the cutesy side check out RaMcube they make some beautiful heads in that anime-semireal style similar like SmD. You may find that the right face up can give a doll the anime vibe to make the anime hunks of your dreams Just find a guy with a cute pointy nose and give him an anime face up and voila!
Hi and welcome! I’m also a sailor moon fan. There were some past releases of the characters by Volks, although they’ll cost you a pretty penny secondhand.
Yeahhh, I've seen 'em. I was between spending 2/3 of my paycheck on a Jeanne d'Arc (Fate Series) Volks doll, or around 1/4 on a Smartdoll. I choose the economical option in this case. Maybe someday when I win the lottery I'll get a Sailor Mercury doll!
Vings, huh? I'll have to look into them! I have a girl SMD (offtopic, I know) and I rlly like those, but I do want a male with a masc, mature body type. I'll look into these, TYSM Do you suppose that I could finagle an anime guy from an iplehouse guy? I was thinking of saving up to get an SID male (or at least an SID male body) to try and adapt him into Dottore from Genshin Impact, but I worry how he would look paired next to his gf (my SMD girlie xD)
Check out Ducmon face up. Some of his work is more realistic but also he has done quite a few "cosplay" commissions as he calls them, where the face up is based on anime and manga characters although not exactly animetic in the way SmD and DD face ups are. He's not the only one who does this but the first one who comes to mind, my friend and I were gushing over the AOT Levi face up he did. (found the Levi!: DUCMON on Instagram: "WIP Continue to new project. Who can regconize this boy and give me a brief discription about his personality, please? .... .. . #ducmon_faceupcommission #faceup #faceupartist #dollmakeupartist #faceupdoll #faceupcommission #bjdfaceup #bjdfaceupartist #bjdfaceupcommission #bjd #bjdphotography #bjddoll #bjdinstagram #bjdstagram #bjdphoto #dolloftheday #bjdmakeup #msdbjd #msddoll #sddoll #sdbjd #creativelife #bjdhobby #hobby #bjdcollector #bjdcosplaymakeup #bjdcosplay" ) I think this could be a great look on an Iplehouse doll and would look good next to a semireal SmD. And I may be a little bit biased because I collect anime and non anime dolls, but I think they display beautifully together no matter what. I couldn't find male examples of this but Volks FCS also offers animetic style on Super Dollfies. Here's an example on a Nono and SDM-F-31: フルチョイス推薦メイクのオススメ!~アニメティックメイク~ | 天使のすみか・名古屋店 You can see how just changing the makeup style makes them look more "2D" This is just to give you an idea how it looks to do that makeup style on a face with more volumes and detail. See what you think, you can probably commission any artist who does anime style to use their same style on a non anime doll.
I appreciate it! Ducmon really has some lovely stuff -- maybe whenever I've got more money, I'll look into it. As a side note, the only anime style doll I have is my SMD, but she already sticks out next to my two other girls (though that may well also be bc they're teeny tiny in comparison). Probs just me overthinking.
Your collection should be how you like it, so I don't blame you if you choose a more anime styled male head to go with your anime girl and display them separately These are just option of course. I'm sure by the time you've saved up and ready to make this doll, there will be even more sculpt choices available for you. Chinese independent artists in the hobby are quite active now, so it's a great time to get back into bjds.
