Theme Interesting finds our dolls can use!

Mar 11, 2007

    1. Glad to see they fit the camper, solitary agent! I want one for a couple of my dolls, since their characters live on the road and the camper hooks up to the OG Jeep. Which is the perfect size for minis, as is the scooter (though the helmet is too big).

Leah really wanted to keep that scooter and paint it black...

    2. Thank you for the tip! That pink bed & table looked so amazing that I actually ran straight to Home Goods after work yesterday. XD Unfortunately the store near me didn't have either of those items...buuuut they did have something just as adorable that I picked up instead: this perfectly SD-sized pink metal garden bench!

It was $14.99. Alice is covering the other heart-shaped back, but both sides of the bench are mirror images. It seems like this bench might match that table, so I might stop in another nearby location to look for it. :3

    3. Caution: does NOT work with YOSDs. I purchased this for my yosd with plans to paint it white. Even bought the paint and decided to try it out and see how my little one looked.... and she didn't fit. She was at least a half head too big. :( Was SO disappointed.

    4. I totally forgot about these two finds

little angel wings from Joanna Fabrics. there are two in a pack. work with little tines.

      Wings on Bisou Ai

Next is Bear Goggles!!! i got mine from Austin Gift Company.

They fit 6-7 or smaller heads only. they are made of soft rubbery stuff.

    5. I don't have a picture but Yankee Candle has hats for their large jar candles, but the hats fit SD dolls!

      Edit: Picture!

    6. I found this set and I think it would fit SD's best. Although the "plates" would probably be fine for MSD's. The "silver ware" is also a bit big.

Sorry, I dont have any SDs or bigger so I cant do a comparison shot :/

Good price though! Found it at WalMART in their Christmas section at front of the store. Was with the treat bags & decorative candy pieces for holiday baking :D

Sent from my cell phone using Tapatalk!

    7. [IMG]

Michaels is selling some sweater ornaments that come on hangers and a few of them have matching snow cap ornaments that fit slim minis and YoSDs wonderfully!

They were orignally $5.99 but when I went there today they were $2.99

    8. I always try to look for nice things for my bjd on charity shops. My latest finds that I'm really happy are this vase and candle holder :)
The little box is a souvenir from a friend.

The chest in this picture was find at a local supermarket as well as the "cupboard" which is actually a tea box. The jugful is also a flea market finding.

    9. I've been on a bit of a treasure hunt for dolly things for the past few months, its about time I come back here with my finds lol

Firstly, I know Target's Our Generation doll line has been mentioned several times, but it looks like nobody's posted about the wonderful kitchen set yet!

It is absolutely PERFECT for MSDs.

Next up are a few thrift store finds:

A jewelry case used to store accessories.
The necklace hanger section is being used for scarves and belts.
I also found a really cute white wire chair with lace accents that works well for my Minifees.

Not pictured, I found a teapot shaped teabag caddy that would be a cute cookie tray or fruit tray for MSD and SD.

Lastly are my Michael's craftstore finds:

Every spring there's a really cute decorative collection that includes a ceramic bathtub that I finally grabbed after putting it off for the past few years.
      It looks wonderful with MSDs.

This year, Michael's has a line of fairy garden miniatures, including baskets of fruit, glass cake stands, and little garden accessories and tools.
There were also miniature empty jelly jars with lids (I ADORE tiny glass jars, so I had to get them lol)
These work best with YoSD and especially smaller dolls like Realpukis, but they'd work fine for MSDs as little garden decorations.
I found them on the end of an aisle around the floral section where they keep the green floral foam and packs of moss.

      More Michael's finds:

I picked up another decorative piece from the same spring collection as the bathtub, this time its a bird feeder that would work as a birdbath for MSD and smaller.

I also picked up another fairy garden piece, the white wire birdcage.

I went down the incense aisle trying to get around some people when an oil incense burner caught my eye, looking like a dolly firepit.
I also found a small incense burner bowl that would work as a bowl for dolls.

Lastly, there were small fake succulents I felt would work for dolls, so I picked up a branch of that plus a 2inch flowerpot and made a fake succulent flowerpot for my girls.

    10. "Crib Life" outfit from Tuesday Morning fit Bobobie 15cm dolls, as well as some other 5 inch dolls. (the only picture I have is of it on an, I think, OT Goodreau doll)

The mask it comes with fits MSDs
      [IMG]

Next up is a bunch of Home Goods stuff

This jewelry box looked perfect for a MSD dresser. It cost $50.

And this jewelry box I thought might make a good SD night stand.

They also had a bunch of cake stands/pedestals in various sizes that can work as tables for MSD or Yo-sd.

Also the dog couches are back again, at least at my local Home Goods.

    11. [IMG] My mother was doing crafts with duct tape. While at AC Moore, she managed to find a perfectly sized roll of silver duct tape that even went right around Sonia's wrist! Since it was the wrong color (she needed it in gold), she let me have one.

Now all she needs is a pavilion and a camp chair and she's ready for Pennsic!

    12. I've mostly hunted for doll weapons, though other props do crop up in my household.

This is my newest doll prop addition, a (letter opener) sword that is big enough to almost be in scale with a 70cm. I got it on amazon for $5 (normally $20 for this one)

Here we have Jazz with her sword (letter opener) and a flintlock gun (keychain). The gun would be more in scale with my 70cms, but Jazz is the one who uses it.

Tiny palm reading book with one of my MSDs, it looks like a giant tome compared to her, but would be a good textbook size for an SD.

Tiny pocket watch, perfect for SDs and bigger!

Later I will take some pictures of the doll furniture we have from American Girl, and other finds!

    13. I got this little Ganesha statue years ago from Paper Bear in San Marcos TX. Pictured here in the hands of one of my MSDs. I have no idea if they are still available. I had bought this for myself and had only recently thought about it working for dolls.

    14. A friend gifted me a desk lamp for my minis!

      And it works!

It is mean to be one of those little light to clip on the book or e-book reader (and it has a clip on a side, like a ball pen) but it's has a removable base too and it's simply perfect for mini dolls.

    15. Flowers From Hobby Lobby, and a Xanadu brand tiny clock I found at Goodwill. The flowers come in a variety of colors and are made from some type of rubber. They make perfect little MSD roses. They were in the normal flower area.

Both with an MSD. (picture wasn't meant to be a comparison shot when i took it so sorry if it's hard to tell scale)

    16. Hobby Lobby's getting the fall stuff out, which includes a lot of nice tiny pumpkins. I happened to have some dolls with me from a photoshoot (wasn't leaving them in the car!), so I pulled out a LittleFee and MiniFee for size comparison:

[IMG]Tiny pumpkins at hobby lobby by vicemage, on Flickr

I didn't pick any up on this last trip, but I think I'll have to go back for some. All but the one laying flat in the foreground are lightweight, with wire picks attached to the bottoms; the flat one is a heavier material without a pick.

There's also some Christmas stuff showing up, and while I didn't see much good stuff for dolls yet, they did have some tiny cookie-cutters that I think are meant as buttons or similar embellishments, that are a good scale for tinies or minis, too.

    17. [IMG]

Today I found appropriately scaled beakers and flasks at an antique store! Now my little scientists are better equipped. Just as a note, anything from 10 ml to 50 ml is probably going to be a good size for SD scale dolls.

    18. My local Lowes Hardware has these little toolbox gift card holders that look like they would be perfect for an MSD or an SD. The tool box is approximately 3 inches long, 1 inch wide, and 2 inches tall.

I haven't gotten one yet, but I intend to as soon as I can. ^-^

    19. I found some miniature pudding silicon moulds in a houseware shop named Kasanova:

They costs 80 eurocent and there where two shapes and a lot of different colors available. They seems to work well with YoSD, too.

    20. Hey guys! Found out that the clothes for Elf on the Shelf happen to fit YoSD sized dolls pretty well! You can get them from the Elf on the Shelf web store or probably in any place that sells their product. I got mine at Cole's bookstore.

Aviator Jacket (the goggles didn't fit unfortunately)

      Game Day Jersey

The jersey is a little snug, though to be fair, Rémy was wearing a shirt under it. Both tops go on with the help of velcro that's on the underarms (no scrunching sleeves past tricky finger positions!) and along the sides.
More reference pictures on my tumblr blog.

    21. I just found a toy washing machine that's great for MSD dolls!

It wasn't really cheap (12 euro), but it came with two clothing hangers and it says on the box that it really works, but I haven't tried it yet and really I'm not that interested.

    22. Vintage Wolverine Washer (Washing machine) off ebay. They show up often, and vary between $10 and $200 depending on condition and seller greed.

    23. [IMG]

Quite a number of years ago, I was checking out a bunch of garage-sales in my neighborhood, and found this! It's a scale sample office desk. It was made by a man, who used to custom-make life-size ones for offices. He had gone out of the business, and put the scale-model sample in with his garage-sale items.

I couldn't believe how well made, and detailed it was, and bought it.

It was stored away in our attic for quite a few years, and today I finally pulled it out, dusted it off, and set it up for Allastair.

So, Allastair is "modelling" the desk, trying to write... but, as so may of us do, failing, and playing Solitaire instead. :B

      Some extra shots HERE.

Allastair is a Luts SSDF Regen head on an Infiniti Doll SID body (this body is similar to the new Luts Senior65 Delf's body).

    24. I found some interesting props during my last trip to Tiger, an houseware and novelty shop chain:

Bottle full of really small dice! They are so small I think they can work great with 1/6 and 1/12 dolls, too.

      Tacky piggy bank!

    25. [IMG]
I recently found an eyeglass repair kit at the state fair that is perfectly sized for BJDs!

    26. I was in wilko's and found a bathtub perfect for minifee, it also came in translucent pink and purple, and clear with gold glitter.
It was in the soap and stuff aisle and was only a couple of pounds.

    27. I've ended up with all kinds of things for Crane's kitchen that started out as Christmas ornaments... A copper tea hob, glass bottles of wine, a stainless colander and frying pan, a tray full of steamed clams, a wire balloon wisk... all sorts of things. They came from Sur la Table.

I also ended up with some nicely-scaled rice, soup and noodle bowls from a little shop I passed on the way to the subway station when we were in Beijing a couple of years ago. They were intended to be phone charms, I think? They're an excellent size for my Delfs.

    28. Here are some horribly blurry pictures of the before-mentioned lip balm bottle held by a Feeple65, as well as the coin purse bag with added chain straps - and a hanger meant for photos from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

    29. Sorry, mods — I didn’t know this thread existed. :) Thanks for the move!

I had a banner weekend for finding doll props (both new/repurposed and thrifted). :) Doll models are Iplehouse Justin YID and Luts Abadon head on Mirodoll 61cm boy body.

***I tried to embed the pics, but they kept coming up broken. I don't know if Imgur recently blocked DoA hotlinking (they say they allow it for forums), or what, but I put the full album links below as a workaround for now.**

      1) Beverage Floats ($2 at Goodwill, box of 2)
--> These are miniature pool floats for your drink, so they have a bottom on them to support the cup/bottle/can. I inflated the float, then VERY CAREFULLY used a utility knife with a sharp new blade to cut out the bottom piece. I left a "flap" of the bottom on there to avoid getting super close to the inflated part. Now the boys have a silly pool float!
--> Here is a similar product (perhaps an updated version of the one I bought): Big Mouth Toys Unicorn Beverage Boats - White (3pk)
--> Pics for scale: Unicorn float

      2) Sports balls ($1 per package at Dollar Tree)
--> Pack of 3 bouncy balls in sports ball shapes. The basketball is closer to mini-basketball size for these two dolls, but the yellow ball (which looks like it might be a water polo ball) seems to be the right size.
--> Pics for scale: Sports balls

      3) Tabletop basketball set ($7 at Half Price Books)
--> This basketball seems much closer to the right size for these two dolls. The backboard is correctly sized as well, but the net seems like it's not truly scaled the same. I just need to build a stand for the backboard/net now!
--> Pics for scale: Tabletop basketball set

      4) Mesh pen/pencil cup ($1 at Dollar Tree)
--> Perfect scale for a wastepaper basket IMO!
--> Pics for scale: Wastepaper basket

      5) White wooden shelf ($4 at Goodwill)
--> Simple little find that is not exactly the right size, but it works for displaying the boys' toys and accessories on my shelf. :) Has two shelves and two drawers. Some chipped paint, but nothing that can't be fixed or covered up! Solid wood construction is a bonus.
      --> Pics for scale: Shelf

      6) Plush candy/cookie keychains ($1 each at Dollar Tree)
--> These were plush keychains (stitched thread loop attached to a plastic clip). I carefully cut the loop off as close to the plush shape as possible without cutting a seam open. Now they look like novelty pillows!
      --> Pic for scale: Pillows

    30. It’s been shared before, but wrap some thin paperboard around a “hot cocoa” or “coffee” lip gloss container for a heat sleeve and it looks a bit more realistic. :) This was a quick and dirty attempt. I plan to make a better one with a logo once I have more time.

    33. I found this peach faux leather backpack at H&M (link to good photo) and there is a glossy black one too! When I get the keychain part off (it's very sturdy) and on the doll, I'll post another photo. Both main and front pocket are functional! The straps may be a bit short, but if worn with only one strap on it would look very cute! (or maybe I could cut it and sow on ribbons at the ends to allow to adjust length.) 9cm long, 7cm wide, 2.5 cm thick (when stuffed) so I think it will work on an MSD scale.
I bought if for 600rubles (Russia) and looking online $5.99 on sale in the US

    34. This little miniature book kit from Uncommon Goods, an online retailer, has a really cool little diorama with it, and the scenery would probably fit 1/8 and 1/6- YoSD sized dolls really nicely, while the miniature books might fit several more sizes.

    35. If you're in the US or Canada, your dollar tree may have these for $1 ea. They're not gorgeous, but I totally plan to customize mine!

This is my Doll-Love Yoyo in one - perfect fit!

Here's what it looks like - a unicorn I guess? LOL!

Ans here are my DollLove yoyo and Kids-Sky Amber with the 2 options my store had: unicorn and pineapple:

Sorry about my finger there; I was in a hurry to share. ^_^ Anyway, as you can see, one of the felt tabs holding the pineapple on is unglued, but that's an easy fix. I'm going to change the fabric anyway, though the plush stuff they used would actually be pretty nice without the embellishments. The wire frames are rock solid, so YAY!

I've seen a lot of people scoring things like this at Claire's, etc, but I've never found a decent one before. Can't beat $1 in my book. Hopefully I'll have pics of them made over in the upcoming week. :D

    36. Hey everyone!

I was just wondering what great finds you've found for your dolls outside of doll specific stores/webpages etc?

I went to a local antique shop and found this amazing wooden rocking chair and beer stein. The rocking chair had a teddy sat in it but I'm sure you'll agree River suits it much better! I assume his little beer stein is some kind of promo or tourist curio, either way it's brilliant with it's little flip lid :love

    37. I'm terrible at finding cool things, but my mom is great at it, lol. She found this adorable chair and tea table. I painted them and made little swappable cushions for the chair.

    38. I love thrifting/shopping for doll accessories. I have quite a few chairs, as well as other knickknacks from various places like craft stores and even Walmart and Target. :)
Some of my newer finds include a BBQ grill set and a microscope/science set, courtesy of Walmart's 18" doll line that work well for 1/4 and 1/3 scale dolls (it varies between each prop, some are better for one size than the other).

    39. My favorite doll accessory is actually not a doll accessory at all! It's a keychain. Kate Spade had the cutest mini purse keychains back when they were trending, and I picked up their mini Maise in red. It's perfect for 1/4 size dolls and it just looks stunning! A lot of the mini purse keychains are out of scale or just have sloppy workmanship, but this really just looks like a small version of my normal Kate Spade purses. :D If they ever rerelease this keychain in their other styles, I will be buying them all!! I'll post photos when I'm not on my phone. If you come across the keychain on Poshmark or something, I highly recommend buying it.

Disclaimer: I promise I'm not an ad. I just really love Kate Spade and small things, so I always get excited when I talk about this keychain.

Edit: Here's a little album with some photos. It's even lined!

    40. Same with Shamshir - keychains! When I was in Japan I found a ton of miniature weapons in the form of keychains, and they were super cool too! One was sheathed in it's shield, another came with a removable sheath, etc...I was never a big keychain person in the past but now I always search for ones that'd work with my dolls.

    41. I have that exact same rocking chair but mine is yosd sized! I found mine at a yard sale for $1. My best find to date was the antique doll storage trunk/closet. It's made to fit a porcelain doll inside of it and it latches shut, but it's perfect sized for MSD! Solid wood too. :>

    42. I know around back to school time I've seen a few locker decor items at Target that I thought would be perfect for Yos or even MSD sized dolls. I specifically remember seeing a locker "chandelier" as well as a fluffy white "rug". I didn't buy them though because I only have SD sized guys atm and it wouldn't fit their aesthetics. :/

    43. I found a beautiful SD sized wooden bed at an antique show, and for only 10 dollars! I also found a dresser at the same show. I’ll add pictures later. Also keychains. I have a pair of green keychain shoes that were 2 dollars.

    44. It was not for my BJDs but for my seamless figures (they are also poseable), but I found a hummer at our secondhand store that works really well for 1/6th scale. It was a little beat up,non functional RC car, but I am going to mod and repaint it anyway, and it was only 2euros! I still haven't started this project, but I will soon

I also have found a ton of stuff in a very cheap store (it's called action, it's like a dollar store, but not everything is a dollar /euro):A cool wooden table for msd, stools for SDs, floating cup holders that are great as swimming tubes, miniature fake skulls. They also have miniature lockers ( used for jewelry normally) that I will most likely buy :') they have so much stuff you can use for dolls

    45. Today I found a three person cutlery set at Micheals, along with some Halloween eyes. They looked to be 16-20 mm, maybe a bit larger, from my very rough estimation:

      Found at Dollar Tree
      by Kaydee, on Flickr

Hi! Don't know if this will help anyone or even be relevant, but my local Dollar Tree is selling bunches of roses for Halloween that have eyeballs in them. Warrant, the eyes are made out of plastic and they look kind of cheap, but they are half round 18mm eyes and fit in my Dimo's eye sockets. You get three eyes in a bunch of flowers, so you could actually get 3 pairs of eyes for $2, which is pretty good! The eyes look like they have electricity bolts in them, which could be a good look for Halloween, but I'm going to see if I can do something else to spruce them up. Hey, for that cheap it won't be so bad even if I mess up :whee:

I thought maybe if anyone else would like to snag some cheap eyes for a project or something, this might help you out. And if you do, it would be great to hear about what you did with them.

    47. They look pretty nifty, actually! It's always kind of fun to see stuff in the wild you can repurpose for dolls. Do you happen to have any pics of them in a doll's head?

    48. Those can be converted into DIY eyes. Use some strong tacky and stick it on the top of the dome and gently pull until it comes out. Use isopropyl alcohol and rub the paint off the dome and now you can personalize the eyes in any color you want. ^_^

It took me a while, but I do have a couple of pics of the eyes in a doll :)

The eyes turned out to actually just be plastic half-circle domes. The paint came off really easy with rubbing alcohol, though, so I'm going to try painting some custom eyes with them :)

    50. Found this cute little leather backpack at Hobby Lobby in the jewellery section the other day. It's from the "Explorer" collection and it actually opens so you can put stuff in it. It is the perfect size for my off-topic 16cm tiny.

    51. Ever needed a way to have your information inside a bjd (or something else) while traveling. I found these in Ikea. They are meant to be put on your pet’s collar but I couldn’t resist. For .99 cents each I couldn’t resist so I bought six.

    52. Wow that's neat!

    53. what exactly do you mean by "have your information inside a bjd"? Do these go inside of them somehow?

    54. You could push poster tack and put it in the head. Or if a large doll could put it in the torso maybe.

    55. They look like they’d fit nicely inside the head for larger dolls.

    56. Oh! Like a way for a finder to know who lost the doll? That's a pretty good idea tbh! It beats writing your name inside them or something. And you could use it to hide secrets. ;)

    57. This seems like a good way to insure a doll against theft, especially when traveling with a doll or otherwise in a place where the dolls can be accessed by multiple people (like a convention)

    58. I wouldn't really want the metal bouncing around in my doll, but this does raise a point that it would be a pretty smart idea to place a small rolled up piece of paper in the head with cell number/contact information in case the doll is lost. You could even mention something like finder's reward to encourage any potential people to get in contact.
