View attachment 428 View attachment 429 View attachment 430 This here is my project, dollhead Indigo. The sketches are for her future body, and the face is her character concept. I can't wait to meet her!! I'm working in ladoll premix, and seeing how I like it. It's my first time using ladoll, and I quite like it. It's a little bit gummy? And takes a while to dry..
I love the sketch of her face! It has so much personality. I like the shape of the body in your sketches, too. The curves are gorgeous.
Thank you guys! I haven't been working on this girl as much as Id like, but I've pretty much completed her face! It still needs more work symmetry-wise, but I'm happy with the overall look and character I have since started on her ears, and attempted to increase the space between her eyes.
View attachment 434 Pretty close to how I want her, next to a Unoa B-el faceplate for scale and comparison. A lot of tweaking, sanding and addong back of tiny details since last update, as well as ears.
The face looks so much like the sketch! I'm envious. I can never get anything that close to my concept sketches.
Thank you two for your thoughts! SilverAsh: thank you, but this is also the first time that I get my face looking anything like what I want it to! I just kept on shaving down, sanding and then building up again the features I felt weren't good enough. Then sand, rinse, repeat!
Waa so talented! The face is really finely sculpted and I agree looks exactly like the sketch o_o And in ladoll too, I still struggle with faces in paperclay for some reason it's really hard to realize features in to me. Her body looks so cute as well, really looking forward to seeing your progress on it.
Crowtree thank you! Compliments mean a lot, especially from someone so talented!! I like the ladoll for faces, i usually sculpt super coarsely and then whittle/sand down to get the features the way I like. This time it was a success, but I find I may have to switch mediums to make the hands, ladoll is just too flakey and breaky for me :þ
I should try some ladoll or premix. Love paperclay for the body sculpt but maybe it's not as fine to use for details and I only used ladoll for a body base before which wasn't an ideal usage. Oh gosh yes hands are so fragile, they'd definitely break on me if I didn't use sculpey. Apoxie sculpt may be good too if you like to carve.
I am in love with the face soo cute... amased that you can get it to look like the sketch I can NEVER pull that off I dont even try anymore... sketching makes me depressed =p
Love her face. She reminds me of the mechanic girl from (disney's) Atlantis. Looking forward to seeing her finished body. =)
Crowtree i really want to try a clay different from ladoll, it's extremely tough to work with in super thin parts.. I made an attempt at hands with the premix and the fingers keep falling off >< JetPackJumper don't be too hard on yourself! Even if the sculpt doesn't end up looking like the sketch it may sometimes end up being the better looking one! Ehe, that's what happened with my earlier sculpt ;P I sketched the face using a real person as inspiration, and then used that persons pictures to get a more varied 3D feel for the sculpt. It's so so difficult to translate 2D into 3D with good results imho, but don't give up! OutsideTheBox thank you!! That's a great compliment, I LOVE that character!! She's so spunky and awesome!
View attachment 441 So, Indigo can wear eyes now! I bought a 12mm beveler, and it took about 5 minutes to fix her eyewells! Whoot! Then there's this silly picture! I started on her hands and feet, the latter I like but the hands I am planning to scrap. I want to try a different clay, as well as go for something a little cuter/ more stylized.
Hands and feet are taking nice shape already That's way better than I've ever managed in stone/paperclay. Oh bevelers are the best things ever. I got a used complete set on ebay years ago cheaply and it's one of my prized possessions, lol.
Thank you Crowtree! They say an old dog can't be taught new tricks, and the same goes for me; I'm planning to make a second attempt at paperclay hands, although this time I will use wire to support the fingers!! View attachment 460 Sooo... I accidentally got started on a body! My plan was mostly to completely finish and maybe cast a head, but bodies are so much fun!! I am out of control.. View attachment 461 I'm pretty pleased with the rough silhouette. Her chest needs a lot of work though ...
Hi Berrysdoll, I decided to look at your thread and I'm so glad I did! I LOVE your face sculpt and body sketch. I love the lips on your doll. They are so curvy and expressive! Also your body sketch is really great. Glad to hear you like the ladoll clay. I haven't worked with it yet.
Love the concept and how it is turning out! That is one adorable face, and the body looks great so far, too. You've done quite a bit of work in such a short time. Sculpting thin parts with LaDoll is giving me a hard time, too. I love working with it, but it's so unexpectedly soft …
Divi thank you so much! LaDoll is definitely worth a try. It's really soft, and then sands like a dream when it's dry. It's also surprisingly sturdy! But not the best for very thin, small parts like fingers, without some kind of support, like wire enforcement. :þ Eviessanctum thank you!! @.@ the LaDoll does take some getting used to, but personally it suits me great as my prefferred method of sculpting is by deduction from a rough sculpt, so a softer clay that is easier to carve and sand is perfect for me! But it does make finer details a bit of a hassle.. XÞ Here are my updates for now, I've enhanced the bust, but it still needs some gravity. The shins need to be lengthened, and then I can hopefully get started on her arms! I also need to straighten her neck out a bit, the curve of her shoulders is a bit too exaggerated for my tastes.. Then my unoa sisters were kind enough to strip for a comparison shoot. I'm pretty pleased with her height!
Oh wow, I love this! Her face is wonderful, and I love her curves. Can't wait to see how she progresses! And I am impressed with anyone who can get LaDoll to do what they want it to
I chopped at the opening of the head a little bit, and was able to fit it on the neck! Putting head and body together really gives her face more life! This girl has me so inspired and excited 8Ð EllaG thank you! I hope her progress will be as exciting for you as it is for me! I really like LaDoll, but it sure is being a pain in the ass when it comes to making hands. I'm about to scrap my 2nd attempt! *facepalm*
Indigo now has hands! One burnt but it doesn't matter. I decided to see if I was able to make somethin from a material differen from paperclay, and I'm pretty pleased with this pair. Definite improvement from the ladoll sets :þ I've also started planning and brainstorming for the upcoming battle: joints! I want her to be able to pose naturally and be pretty flexible. I'm going for a 3 piece bust with and underbust and rib joint, double jointed thighs, knees and elbows. I want her to be able to touch her face, kneel and draw her legs up to her torso. Now to see if I can actually perform all of this adequately. XD
How have I missed this thread?! I like her nose It's not the usual pointy tiny cute thing! And the body of course is so well done and I always want to see more dolls with this body type. Hope to see more posts with joints and such. Making her legs touch the torso sounds very complicated to me... By the way, what's the material used for hands? I thought the hand was painted and then red that it got burned XD but it looks nice.
Dollsbestfriend, thank you! I am excited too! XD Wilga, thank you! Her face and figure are what I am the happiest about. And joints are coming up soon! I guess the sketch is a bit confusing, but the plan is to see if I can double joit her thighs, so that the two 90 degree joints will be able to create a U shape, if that makes any sense? I made her hands from white fimo. I have no idea if that was a good plan or not, maybe it's too fragile for casting? She's in pieces right now, waiting for me to start on her jointing! I've been fiddling with evening her out, sanding a lot as well as using old pieces of dried clay dissolved in wated to smooth out skratches and uneven patches.
Hi. How are things going? Have you done anything more with her since last update? She is such a pretty doll. And I too am impressed with how close you are to the original scetch. I usually just do sketches for body proportions and stuff like that and just let the face happen.
This is a great project. Her face is very characteristic and expressive. Hope the body comes along as you envision it. I don't think your sketch is confusing at all however. Joints do take a lot of fiddling around to get a sucessful posing, but it's part of the process.
What a wonderful girl! I'm completely in love with her mouth and nose. Her body is beautiful, I'm looking forward to seeing more of her
Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates lately! I'm still working on my girl (slowly), and I really appreciate that you took the time to check out my thread! It gives me motivation! Lillith, Sleep of Reason, Jemey, thank you so much for your comments! it makes me so happy that you're interested in my little project :3 Most recent updates include some footwork and some very rough arms! In the second picture, you can see a bunch of balls, beginnigs of joints! Since these pictures were taken I have decided not to go for external thigh joints, and I still have quite a lot of work to go!! I've been musing over making a rough cast of her head as it is the closedt to being complete.
Oh I think she's going to look absolutely gorgeous~! EDIT: opps, forgot how this forum worked ~! ^^; but wow, she's looking so gorgeous~! it's amazing what you've done so far~! Can't wait to see her finished~!
Myscribbles, thank you so much! I really want to finish her soon! But there's been some severe procrastination going on recently. I did however get some inspiration for the look of a second face to go on the body! Here she is next to Indigo's original sketch. Let's hope I can get the sculpted face to look similar a second time!
Your style is delightful ,,w,, I can't wait to see more of them. I died with that transluscent hand. And her poutyness.
I haven't updated here at all for way too long! I took a long hiatus from working on my girl because of a busy schedule. I finally found some time and will to get working on her again! It's no huge update, but I'ce decided to piece down the things that need to get done, and am now working on her face/head system. I have a lot of unoas and they are my favorite doll ever, so I thought I might make her face/headback compatible with the system that unoas use. That way she should be able to exchange faces and bodies pretty easily Here is her faceplate as it is currently, on a unoa body. I'm still refining it and need to make her new ears!
I got a little bit of work done on this girls body. I've already finished her face to a point where I'm happy with it.
She is a super sculpt - she really is. You've managed to pull of a real personality in her face but done in such a way that an owner can still add in their own style with a face up. (I know what I mean:-)). Excellent work xx
