In love with a discontinued sculpt

I had several discontinue dolls on my wish list and they all popped up with in the last 7 months. I went kind crazy and grabbed them as I saw them(I'm now stuck with a painful credit card bill. I do not recommend this).
Sometimes it's all waiting. Hopefully you can save now and grab them when they peer out of the fog.

 

All of the dolls in my wishlist are discontinued/limited releases... I got lucky and managed to get my hands on one of them recently, but I get the feeling it's going to be a very long time before two of the other ones show up anywhere. It's just a matter of being patient though.

 

Studio Naiko's Kanji is the limited doll head I fall in love some time ago. He was sold out when I found him of course. Just like Soom Photon Angel of death. I just forget Ringdoll Law...

 

This doesn't happen to me surprisingly often. At least not that I can recall. I honestly don't often get too attached to limited bjds, or I manage to snatch up the ones I'm looking for when they come out. I can think of maybe one or two of them maybe?

I'm not 100% if this fits this case, but I guess I could put Clever/Clever Little in this (although, as much as I adore him, I'm not a huge fan of that scale of bjds, yet I still love him nonetheless). Another case that I'm certain fits here, though, is this lovely 75cm hunk of a boy that Doll Family A/H (can't recall which it was, unfortunately) had out when I first started getting active again in the hobby in 2014/15. He had lovely sculpted elf ears and a face that made me melt when I first stumbled upon him. I kept thinking to myself every time I looked at him on the sale sites for a period that I should consider getting him, but I was more interested in sticking within the 60-70cm SD range at the time.

Unfortunately, about a year or so after first discovering him, he pretty much disappeared off the face of the planet. I think the one store who I recall being the last to have him listed went under, and I haven't seen him under either Doll Family company listings in years. I can't even recall what his sculpt was called, and I don't ever remember seeing any owner photos either. He's like this evanescent bjd—he existed within that brief window of time, and then he just...vanished.

 

I recently fell in love with Doll Chateau Fuya-- only to discover that she was limited release over a year ago.

I suppose I'll just keep an eye on the secondhand market as well as future spooky sculpts to see if anything else scratches that itch for me.

 

Oh, this is me and Luts French Knight Abadon.... I'm kicking myself hard because I could easily have set up a long layaway with BJDivas around the time he was released, and I had the funds and everything....I just got around to finding out about him too late. Now I find myself staring mournfully at his official listing every other week or so....I guess this is what it means to have a grail.

I'm not optimistic about finding him secondhand because he didn't seem that popular and furthermore I want him with the very specific blue and gold color scheme that was one of two options for his official blushing. My chances I'd find him exactly the way I want, complete with all his armor parts and sword, are extremely low. So all I can do is hope, and cry, and mourn....

Oh well, Luts seems to do armored knight boys occasionally, so maybe they'll get it in their head to do another one soon? I'm not gonna give up, someday I will bring home a knight in shining armor.

 

I have many dreams where I own a tan skin Picot Prince Makoto. I love him so much and don’t doubt that I’d have to find the money if one ever went on sale. Despite only collecting MSD and Yo-sd.

 

I only have a few of these dolls on my wish list, and have realistic expectations on whether on not I'll ever get them-- not being more likely. The reality being, I'm not usually willing to pay on second hand market more than what a doll originally sold for, so far only having ever made an exception once and I still kick myself for it sometimes.

 

I adore Sugarable's naga body, the head is pretty too but I would love to get one of those bodies. Devastated to learn they've closed since I first started looking a good 5 or so years ago.

 

If it's a normal discontinued/sold out sculpt, I believe it might have a good chance in future, then I will wait for a re-release.
But for copyrighted sculpt, it's really a despair. Such scuplt even can't be replaced in maintainance services as the BJDs makers doesn't have right to re-produced it, so...
I love at least 5 different sculpts that is discontinued like that, and they're still in my wish-list.
But anything could happen in an abnormal way, so I will always save money for the one I love, even if the chance for its re-release is really low.

 

I have at least 3 discontinued limited dolls on my wishlist right now(in fact, I have five, but there is only three that I have created OCs and backstories for), all anthros from DearMine or LUTS, and all of them are hard to find in the second hand market at a price I can afford, so they may remain there for the end of time, who knows xD

 

I have quite a few discontinued dolls I'd love to get, mostly Souldoll since their big change in 2018 >< I'd love to get vampire Kuu, Bijou and Jiu one day... though I'm hopeful I'd be able to find them secondhand from someone if I look! In the same vein, I have Souldoll Spider Queen Junia, with the human Junia head, but my image for her character since I got her has changed and I'd much prefer the spider head now TT I've got her in blue violet as well, so I feel like it would be hard to find just the spider Junia head in the same color secondhand, but one can only hope~

 

It's happened to me too many times, I cope by hoping I'll find it second hand one day.

 

I think at this point the doll I am most looking for is a DollZone Freddy!! I am to the point where I am fine with any version! He’s been pretty difficult for me to find so it’s pretty disappointing to never see him pop up second hand. If only I had been in the hobby juuuuuust a little earlier

 

Ugh i feel this soo much. Its not discontinued but it was a limited sale of the studio naiko kanji head. I really want it but Its seems to be extremely hard to come by ((((. but hofully the studio will come out with new heads soon.

 

Sadly I have some discontinued dolls on my wishlist, too.
For example my first BJD love: DollZone Hong. (And some limited edition dolls from Angell Studio.)
I don't know how the chances are for getting them second hand or company doll re-releases...
But I will not give up. Maybe it's destined that I will get them after all.

 

I love Dollzone Demi, maybe one day I'll find her second hand.

 

Definitely had this happen to me. After my first Pipos Baha was accidentally sold by my dad in a garage sale, I spent 8 years trying to find another because the sculpt was discontinued. I never gave up, and now I have two! I really recommend keeping them in your heart and waiting for sure. I think it can really be a huge pay off at the end.

 

The first doll I ever fell in love with was Ringdoll's 2012 Frankenstein. I have been able to find it on the second hand market and the 2013 counterpart this year, but have been unable to buy them Back to waiting and hoping.

 

Pretty much ever doll I want is discontinued/limited release that I missed It makes collecting fun, pining after that weird doll that has little to no sales history at all! It's the thrill of the hunt. For me, it also makes me really think about how much I want that doll. If I love it as being discontinued, and I continue to love it after hunting for it for years, I know it's meant to be~

 

It was a very painful feeling. You can try to find him in the secondary market. At the same time, you can pay more attention to the sale of new dolls, because there will only be more beautiful dolls, maybe there will be ones you like better.

 

I had this with migidoll Ryu. I saw him and realised he was perfect for a character of mine, but then saw he was discontinued.
I bought Yujin from migi instead, but never used the head... it just wasn’t right. Then on the marketplace ages later, I saw a Ryu head & bought him. Was really happy! I put him on the body & he’s stayed as Emilio since. I sold yujin, and made someone else happy!

I’m obsessed with dream of doll, and the company doesn’t even exist anymore. I’m quite happy cause I managed to get 7 of them from second hand market. But I am still searching for other dod sd male sculpt such as Lahoo, Elf Ducan, Luke etc and hoping that one day I could find them.

 

For years, ever since she was released in 2016, I’ve pined away for a Luts BabyDelf Daisy Elf. She was very limited and only available for one month...unfortunately offered when I was already at my absolute financial hobby maximum for the year. There was no way I could financially bring her home, and it totally broke my heart because I thought she was the cutest thing I’d ever seen. No one put them up on the secondary market, so she remained a lost opportunity that I had to learn to live with.

But never say never...I just recently found one for sale right here in the DoA marketplace and purchased her immediately. My dear little elfin darling is finally home. Dreams really can come true...you just have to be very patient.

 

My big discontinued sculpt quest took me to Twigling Eloy, and 5 ingenue heads. I really want Ingenieuse at some point, and a sleeping Ingenue...

 

I suffer with this problem a lot too! I am a tiny doll collector, so there are plenty of LaTi doll sculpts I could only get ahold of for a certain time period </3 I also love the Fairyland PukiPuki Darjeeling, she is adorable...

 

I’m pretty sure Fairyland Lunnula Moonbeams is discontinued. It’s on their site but it shows Sold out and since it’s a collab I don’t think they’ve ever done a rerelease or that they’ve used the Lunnula sculpt for anything else. She’s my grail as a full set and it kills me that I missed out on her the first go round because I hadn’t joined the hobby. Fomo is real in BJD land.

 

Yes, and I think the longest time I have waited for a doll to pop up for sale anywhere is 2 years. Not a single soul on DoA or Instagram sold that doll for 2 years despite my WTB posts, then one day I found a head on the marketplace here and hoarded it right away. I still don't have her thanks to covid slowing foreign post down, she's been stuck in a foreign postal office for over a month, and this feels a million times more stressful than the initial search.

Currently I own more discontinued dolls than those still manufactured (and all the ones not discontinued are all Dollshe, because, well, Dollshe never discontinued a thing.)

 

ALL my dolls are discontinued and I bought them second handed so I have a obsession with limited dolls lol currently I am looking for freedom teller enoch with discontinued make-up and an angell studio limited doll >< I cant decide who to buy next omg + plus I want so many Switch dolls that I dont even count how many

 

I had this problem that keeps on re-occuring, I kept on falling for dolls that were long time release and most of the dolls I wanted are either discontinued, was limited edition and/or had stopped production .

I just wish its just easy to email the company for a special order or something. I mean i am so much willing to pay just for these dolls to be reproduced again.

Haahahahaha. Been there, hunted for years, now got pretty much all I ever wanted that came out before I joined the hobby or I missed while being part of the hobby or had to skip out due to finances :3

The magic to get them is: save up, be ready, stalk the 2nd hand markets and put up wtbs in various places.
Fairlyine's Scarlett might make a return, so might Soom Shoshon.
Souldoll already re-released Chiron once, so I'm afraid you'll be out of luck on that one and Loongsoul doesn't re-release their limiteds once discontinued :\

I emailed soom before and they told me that sometime this year on next year shoshon my return so I'm readying myself for him.

Scarlett fullset is the hardest to find so I am really praying for a re-release of her. I also did email fairyland but no luck to that .

Im still hoping for chiron and gongong tho I've tried a bunch of ways to get em and I am giving myself 2 years to find em juat an ample time while waiting for my dollshe

 

Here we are, in the 'impossible dreams' club . I know it all too well. Most of the dolls I like or have bought over the years have been long discontinued. Patience is the name of the game - sometimes waiting years. It can get especially frustrating when you JUST miss out on one, or one comes up when you don't currently have the budget for it, or the price is too high. I really like the Volks discontinued SD F-07 and MSD Cynthia/Misha, but I never bothered to even add them to my wishlist or think about owning them as they are hard to find and often expensive.

 

I feel your pain but all hope is not lost. When you get Market Place access, you can post a Wanted thread for them, or you might even find them already there. I think I’ve seen most of those on the MP at one time or another!

As for me, two of the dolls I own are about 15 years old and not only discontinued sculpts, but also from defunct companies that closed nearly a decade ago! I bought them secondhand off the MP. I’ve also got an old Angel of Dream Chen from 2007, and while he’s not technically discontinued, they have modified the sculpt at least twice since then and the current Chen bares very little resemblance to him, so I also kind of consider him a doll you can’t buy anymore. I’m actually his first owner and don’t plan to ever let him go.

I’ve got a couple of others that are discontinued on my wishlist. One of them is actually listed in the MP right now but I’m too broke to buy him and the seller doesn’t accept trades. Maybe I’ll get lucky and he’ll still be there when I can buy him!

Sadly its trickier now with the recasters to beware of...too bad they're an added peril to the hunt.
I've had a few grails. One was an artist limited sculpt that a dear friend helped facilitate communication & I just had to be ready with money at the right time. Then I fell for CB Delf 2005 Juri in 2010...after some hunting on the secondary market & friends keeping an eye out for her for me, I now own 4 different variations of her!!!! And then Luts rereleased her a couple of years ago...but I didn't need another by then. ;} The other that took forever was Elfdoll Soah. I absolutely loved that sculpt. While on the hunt, I found a second hand Sooah (which has a slightly different face), and lucked into finding an Aurora (the elf eared special event version I didn't even know about!!!! And never expected to find) The same dear friend brought me to tears when my Christmas present one year was Soah from Elfdolls rerelease of the sculpt!?!?!? And then a while after that there was an old version Soah fs in the marketplace...so how could I resist her? And then there was the Aoi Tuki Izayoi sculpt I saw Letitia's photo of on DoA just after I became a member...another sculpt I never thought I'd find or be able to afford until a faceup artist had one posted fs in the marketplace here.

So just keep a doll fund set aside & add a bit to it when you can. Then, when the doll your dreaming of appears you aren't stuck scrambling or crying as they get sold.

That has been my case for years, hahaha, but eventually you can find them on the marketplace (or other sale sites, just making sure they are legit).
Honestly, WTB threads work; even if the dolls are not listed for sale, some owners consider your request.
It has happened to me, after 10 years of hunting a specific doll, someone contacted me because of my WTB thread.
Don't give up, just be prepared for waiting and spending a lot, hahaha.

 

You're not alone. Until now most of my BJD wish list includes out of production limited edition and discontinued regular dolls. It's a little frustrating...
And I don't know how the chances are for a rerelease. Especially from Angell Studio and DollZone... I don't know either how the chances are on the second hand marketplace, but I'll try to get them.

Ugh i feel this so hard! Doll chateau Zora I recently found out was discontinued...Honestly I'm heart broken, she was a love at first sighed type of doll. Thing is I had the money too and didn't go for it . I just hope they will re-release it at some point, or I can get her second hand....

 

I am hoping to find BW delf Soony and a WS Twigling Ingenue even pay 2× original price. I was able to find a BW delf Lishe last year here on the MP with sleeping head and extra hands with original box and shipping box. Seller threw in some free gifts. 3 years ago I found one of my grails a Unidoll Dalia on the doll peddlar site and this year on Etsy I found Elfdoll Rita but so far Soony seems the most elusive as I have wanted one since she was discontinued and only delf Soony no fairyland Soony as she is too different.

 

Hahaha ten years I was waiting for my first doll, I was - and I am always - in love with "Dream Of Dolls" dolls, Camine and Lahoo mainly. But the company is down so I just hope to find them in the second-hand market =)
But it's true and I'm agree : it's very frustrating to can't save up money for a doll you love =/ But keep going everyone and good luck ! Maybe one day, we find our precious dolls we love and have an opportunity to get them =D

 

I feel very shame, but I stalked my grail boy. I wrote directly to several owners in a hope maybe someone of them is gonna sell him, and I really appreciate that all Of them was friendly and didn’t send me to hell But finally I found a person who kindly agree to let him go to me. I was sooo happy that day! And I feel so much grateful his previous owner to let me adopt him

 

My grail is an Elfdoll. I saw many WTB posts on Instagram but I've never seen anyone selling her.

 

Now that I think about it, all of my boys are discontinued sculpts. I think one I'm definitely sad about is Dream of Doll Shall.

I have a gift for selecting discontinued dolls. Unless you count my Dollshe lads, which discontinue then return the discontinue… To cope, I save money and stalk the Marketplace. And wait…so much waiting but it usually pays off.

 

I bought a 5 Star Doll Becca and then later sold her. Now they are gone and I regret selling her. I hope that if any of their SD girls come on the second hand market, that I would have the funds to get it. Or even better, that 5 Star would issue new SD size girls.

 

This hasn't happened to me except in that all Phoenox dolls are discontinuee.

 

Good luck on finding your grails! You’ll get them one day! Yes! I have come across dolls when I started collecting that were discontinued or limited and I am still hunting for one of them The one I am looking for is a DollZone the Moon limited doll. I have the star (lucky me - found on eBay). I was able to get two of my grails. I try not to focus too hard on the ones I can’t have/find, one day maybe it’ll simply turn up on the second hand market… Or at least that’s my hope! That’s how I cope lol

 

I only buy from small artists so this is the story of my life lol. It’s contributing to me overspending bc I’ve learned I can’t rely on there being more than one or maybe two preorders for a doll I really love. Which also makes them unlikely to ever be found second hand.

I did find my discontinued grail doll, Legrand Doll Lidia, for a good price on Instagram though. I think there are less than 30 of her in cast resin in existence, so I feel very lucky.

 

What is a discontinued sculpt you fell in love with too late?

 

BlueBlood Doll Phoenix.

He was BlueBlood Doll's first ever sculpt and sold only as a hand cast head. There was never a sales page on the official site before it shut down, and finding any photos of him or even proof that he ever existed is pretty difficult. Draven is a modified version of Phoenix, but there are differences and they were sold as two totally different sculpts at different times. According to the artist, only 2 or 3 Phoenixes were ever sold. She doesn't even own one or have the mold anymore, so finding one would be nearly impossible. I've tried tracking down the existing ones and only found one, who had been modded. I don't know if any remain intact like new at all, and I don't believe BBD makes dolls anymore, so finding a discontinued sculpt from a defunct company that only 2-3 were known to even exist....It's unlikely I will EVER have my hands on one!

 

I eventually settled for similar sculpts. If the discontinued sculpt were to surface somewhere, I might even get it and reshell my doll.

 

I had planned to buy a Miracledoll ChiZhu Little Moth and now that I'm ready I've noticed he has been discontinued. That's the second Miracledoll head I've missed out on due to unannounced discontinuations

 

I have 5 dolls: Doll Factory Senior Ari Lachlan, SOL Ringdoll in tan skin *Full Set*, Dream of Doll Adolph, Loong Soul Wolf , Human Farkas on French Gray Skin and IOS Ciel Phantomhive, who i still hope get them some day.

 

The Doll Chateau Y-body-02 has definitely become a grail doll (body) for me! I reallyyyyy hope DC releases another male youth body that's similar to it! Another one would be Doll Zone Merlin!

 

Aw Merlin was so sweet. I also was trying to decide, but it took me too long and...now we're here! I like how this thread was created years ago, but we still come here whenever we think we've found a great doll, and then that "out of stock" sign flashes in our faces.

 

The Sailor Moon Dollfie dream selection- the second hand market is so crazy for them right now to the point Mars and Jupiter are almost impossible to find…
