IMPL dolls 64cm Star, 58cm Model and 72cm Idol line Discussion thread Part 5

Jun 19, 2014

    1. what a hunk vevet :aheartbea I've always meant to get that same coat for Richard (Tony) - is it nice quality and a good fit for the idol boys? Anything rather than sew LOL ^_^

no really I should make that a New Year resolution - sew for my dolls!

    2. Hey everyone! Sorry I've been MIA. I've been travelling and tonight I've got a date for New Year's Eve, so basically this is just me popping in to say that I'm still alive. ;) I'll come back and comment on everyone's stuff later though, I promise.

Oh, and in case anyone didn't see it, IMPL finally started their holiday event! :celebrate It's on the home page of IMPL's site and there's also a news post about it here on DoA. Looks like the free dolls this time around are the 1/4 size "child" ones.

    3. At 12:30 last night I got my shipping notice from Impldoll! I wonder how long it'll be before he's home? Joshua's sweater isn't even half done and I have a bunch of artwork to do before Monday. 0o0

Very tempted to start a layaway with this new event, and get an Acorn head and a deer body to go with the free doll. But I've already spent my Christmas doll money!

    4. HAPPY NEW YEARS DAY TO EVERYONE! :kitty2 My cat, Widget,:abambi: and I, and all the residents:hug::hug::sneaky :cool:here in Resinville, wish all of you and yours the very best for 2015!:)

    5. Agarva: Thanks ^_^ Your girl is a beautiful sculpt. She's my favorite sculpt is that size category. Please share more pics ^_^ The guy in the picture is my Gnaeus... still nameless.

elve: I LOVE that coat, I been using it with my other bid guys. Is a good coat. I should sew for my dolls but I feel so uninspired lately. T_T

Hello Sapphire! welcome back! a 1/4 doll is a wow gift!

ArtsyLaurie: Congrats for your shipping notice!

Happy New Year Grouchy! and hug for your cat!! :kitty2

    6. Happy New Year to you too Grouchy Gnome - and to my other fellow resin addicts :XD:

vevet Richard will be thrilled when I get him that coat then - he's been wearing the same short sleeved shirt and pants forever LOL

SapphireStargazer I thought of you as AWOL rather than MIA (because I never gave permission!) Glad you are having a fun holiday season! :gingerbreadman

I can't say I'm thrilled about the event as none of those dolls attract me (except I saw someone had Avery in Grey one time and he looked darling) But it is a good way to get a midi sized body for any floating heads you might have (or which I might be tempted to buy after the event LOL)

    7. Well....I just ordered Otavia (and got a free Moon doll) I really love having a doll in the collection who looks a little older then the rest

    8. Velvet, I need to make her more clothes, before another photo shoot. Lol so that might take awhile. I love the Gnaeus sculpt. He is manly but still soft. Can't wait to hear what you name him.

    9. oooh Congratulations on your order Avnia ^_^ I'd love to see her blank - she is nice but it's hard to see past those red lips to the actual shape of her mouth!

    10. Oh my gosh! I was going to wait to post anything until I took some pictures, but I've been super busy so I haven't been able to take any yet...
So my custom-mix-color Idol man body arrived a couple of weeks ago, and it's great! The color seems the teeniest bit warmer than the headcap I sent but I could be imagining it... Regardless, I love it, plus the head has a very warm faceup so it looks perfect.

But now I'd like to share the short story of how things very nearly went horribly wrong but didn't.

My mom yelled for me because my phone was ringing and I didn't hear it, so it was on the last ring when I picked it up. I didn't recognize the number or the voice of the woman on the other end, but then she told me she was at my semi-local post office (in an adjacent neighborhood) and I realized she was our regular mail carrier. She had called to ask if I had ordered something in a large box from China, and after I confirmed, she explained to me that she had called because the box had a non-existent address on it but she recognized my name! Apparently, Impldoll put my address on the box super incorrectly, but as our regular mail person, the woman (gosh, I still don't know her name after all this?) remembered my name and knew that I regularly get boxes of all sizes, so she put two and two together. Then, because she couldn't deliver it with the regular mail because of the non-existent address, she PERSONALLY DELIVERED IT to my door before her schedule started! She said I was lucky she'd seen it there, as nobody else would have known what address it was an incorrect version of. So I LOVE my mail-lady now, oh my god. I need to thank her again!

    11. oh wow she deserves a box of chocolates for that 5-star service SwivelChair :o

that is a pretty terrifying story though - I think I'd go through a dealer if I ordered anything from impldoll after hearing that....

looking forward to seeing pics of your hybrid :)

    12. Well, to be fair to Impldoll, when I originally entered my address when placing the order, I accidentally typed one of the numbers in my house address twice and didn't realize it until much later. I corrected it on my order page before I got my shipping notice but they must've already put the incorrect address on the box at that point. So I don't really blame them for that part. Still, they DID put '7th St.' instead of '76th St.', which I had entered correctly...

I dunno, I've only heard good things about Impldoll until now, and everything else was perfect, especially how quickly they reply to their Q&A board! I wouldn't be too worried about ordering directly from them, so long as you make absolutely sure you type your address 100% correct on the first try!

    13. elve: LOL

      Agarva:
      Thanks! ^_^

      Avnia:
Oh I'm so curious to see that girl!:D

      SwivelChair
: Congrats! and God bless our local mail guys! Something similar happens to me ... but my city is small and the mail guys call most of the customers by their names... is amazing... is feels like when I say "Hello" to a 2nd grade teacher and she call my name... how can a teacher remember so many names/students?:aheartbea

    14. elve: I know...I got Impl to make her lips less red (love the rest of the face up)

vevet: She was close to sold out when I ordered her....so hopefully there will be a few Otavia here :)

SwivelChair: Wow....that's just amazing, you have a great mail carrier

I did a little cleaning up on the waiting list....It was getting a bit confusing with two Decembers on it

    15. OMG the mailman is soooo late today! They've been here around 10am the last couple weeks, and it's just past noon & no sight of him yet! Must be my big Impldoll package slowing him down thru the snow.

    16. Vevet! your boy is beautiful!!!!
I've been absent for some time >.< i'm dropping in to share this Hercules type outfit on my Dante (Marcus) :P
i had so much fun making this outfit for him :) and he wears it so well!

    17. you are a creative genius MaryamDN :o That is awesome!

    18. Wonderful!

    19. elves, Lina285, Agarva, thank you all i'm glad you like him:aheartbea
he needs a deer headdress but i keep putting it off x.x

    20. I can't even imagine how you would make a deer headress. I applaud your skill elve!

    21. I'm working on a moose now, it's not so hard. every animal headdress follows the same basic proceeder. sculpting with modelling clay, casting, securing fur, trimming the fur where needed, airbrushing it for shading, and adding feathers like the nose, eyes, horns, antlers, teeth, etc.... usually sculpted from polymer clay then painted with acrylic and finally sealed. i love making unique things for BJDs... but hardly ever have time when university starts.
i managed to do the small lion head for myself over Christmas break because i had someone order a life size lion headdress for themselves so i figured it would be a good chance to experiment on a 1/3 scale model before i tackle the big one. it actually really helped prepare for the big one too. maybe i'll post pictures of my 1/3 scale model next to the big one once the big one is done :P

    22. I finally got my package Friday! Here is my Joshua (need to figure out his name!) trying on his wig and half-finished sweater. I have eyes for him, but they're not quite wide enough in the whites & the eye putty shows a bit. I should find some white or clear eye putty. He came with three pairs of boots (one brown, two black), the wig, the free baby Gela, and eyes for her. I'm working on a quick pair of comfy pants for him. He's got nothing to wear but the boots!

    23. Agarva I can't take credit for MaryamDN's fine work :D

I love the sweater so far ArtsyLaurie - no way I could knit anything more than a 6 inch square in garter stitch LOL - I had a look at your flickr and I like those eyes in him - he looks very sweet in that photo I faved - the lighting is really good :aheartbea

    24. Oops my apologies MaryamDN! I am a master of foot in mouth. Thanks Elve for pointing this out! ArtsyLaurie, I love Joshua's sculpt especially the jawline, so masculine.

    25. Congrats on the arrival of your Joshua, ArtsyLaurie! He's lovely! Is he white resin or normal pink? Great job on the sweater as well. That colour works for him. :love

MaryamDN that is amazing! I'd love to see a photo of the 1/3 size one next to the human size one, once it's done. Also, can't wait to see the moose! :XD:

As for news from my end, I'm feeling rather sad and disappointed at the moment. I was supposed to have sent Aubrey and another head off to get faceups done this week, but I've had to send back my two boys (OT for this thread) who just came home from the artist a couple weeks ago instead. Their sealant began flaking off almost immediately they arrived home. :( The artist is a super awesome and amazing person and she has offered to repaint those two for free, which I'm very grateful for. But, I am kind of sad that Aubrey and Scarlett will have to wait, and that I'll be without my other two for a while again.

Gabriel says hello. He got a new wig, but the jury's still out on it. Actually, I've had this wig since early November, but I hated it on him when I first got it. I'm not sure if that's due to my actually disliking the wig itself or due more to FMD's epic customer service failure on the order this wig came in. This is style FMD-1112 from ForMyDoll, in a custom colour blend of colours 15 and 22, and size 8/9 which is almost too small for Gabriel's head. I really have tried to style this wig, but I think it may be style-resistant. Anyway, opinions are welcome. :)

New Wig For Gabriel? - 1 by SapphireStargazer, on Flickr

    26. ^_^ He's Normal pink, but all the sunlight reflecting off the snow into my dining room washed out the lighter colors a bit. Had a much harder time photo-ing Gela, she's white skin.

Since Friday I've whipped up a very baggy pair of pajama pants for him and made some progress on the sweater. We hit JoAnne's today and I bought fabric to make him some regular pants, a shirt or two, and fabric to make other doll clothes. I found an "@" charm in the clearance section and two bracelets that'll make neat necklaces for him. One is a wire that I can put the "@" on.

Maybe I could name him Lain like from the anime "Serial Experiments Lain", It was a very computery/internet themed show... or I could keep thinking of other names. I dunno.

    27. ArtsyLaurie, I don't know if you've seen any photos of my Aubrey (Tony). He's the normal pink as well, and I understand what you mean about them being difficult to photograph! Aubrey has white-blond hair as well, and even without snow and winter sunlight, his paleness was completely blown out in the first photos I took of him. I actually had to do an exposure value correction and a manual white balance to photograph him properly (on a black background too, because clearly I'm a sucker for punishment lol).

Sounds like you've been busy with the clothes-making, too! I keep meaning to make PJ pants for Gabriel, yet never get around to it. I would much rather make jewelry than sew and I'm way better at jewelry making than I am at sewing anyway. The @ necklace sounds like it's going to be cool! I don't think I've ever seen an @ charm before. Can't wait to see what that looks like! I'm looking forward to seeing the other clothes you're going to make for your boy as well.

Here's Aubrey (Tony) with Zach, my other Gnaeus:

    28. Your Aubrey is gorgeous, SapphireStargazer. I am a sucker for the white-haired boys so that might also have something to do with it *laughs*.

I feel your pain on the face-up issue. I have a new doll (OT for this thread) that needs one as well as a mod done, but with Xmas a not-so-distant memory, I have zero cash for that. I don't even have the cash on hand to get the poor boy his proper wig *sigh*.

    29. I've still never given any of my blank dolls faceups LOL - I am so used to them blank now I won't recognise them if they're coloured in! ^_^

SapphireStargazer I prefer Gabriel's old wig I think - it's longer in the back than his new one? The old one seems to sit lower on his head too - is it a bigger size? The new one's a great colour though - so natural looking!

I'm surprised your Joshua's pink ArtsyLaurie! My Tony is pink, but I only ever see him under artificial light, so he looks much warmer and yellower - I recall he looked paler in the front room, which faces North so had the curtains open all day. I'd be lost without photoshop elements anyway - My camera is so lousy, all photos need tweaking to death before they even resemble the colours in real life!

Meanwhile my challenge for New Year (which I will fail no doubt) is to sew for Richard (Tony) a whole outfit - Because only then am I allowed to buy Sylvia! Yes I have decided she's my favourite girl - I still miss that blank head they sent me in white as a freebie, which I messed up in a tea dye (awful shade of yellow!) Plus I searched google images and found some fantastic pics of ....is it Dobraya Vedyma's? girl with a snake? I think it's hers - awesome - I wish she'd post them here too! ^_^

    30. Thank you Iron_Dog! The sad irony about Aubrey's faceup is that he is the one who should be in that box headed for the States today, but instead two of my other boys need to make a return trip. I do feel your pain about the cash flow situation, though. Aubrey still needs clothes. Plus, I just bought a secondhand body for one of my floating heads, and I'm also saving up to go to Toronto for AnimeNorth in the spring. Where's that money tree? :XD:

Thanks for your opinion on Gabriel's new wig, elve. This one is shorter in the back; in fact it's shorter all over. The old one is slightly bigger than this one, although they're both ostensibly size 8/9, but they don't really seem to sit all that differently on his head. This one is in pretty much the exact position the other one was. I think the arrangement of the hair and its thickness are different. So far, everyone except me and you seems to love this wig on him. I really do appreciate the honest feedback. :)

    31. Hi y'all, popping in here before my Joshua (Atsuo) gets home to ask an odd question. Is there anyone here who has an Idol boy body, a Mirodoll 60cm, AND a pair of Soom fantasy legs, specifically any of the girls. (Coquina, Beryl, Cuprit) I need to see if it will be worth ordering a pair of Idol thighs to hybrid this bad boy. I am working with a dremel for a temporary solution, but what I have is a Miro 60cm boy, with Coquina hooves, and I know Impldoll is one of only a handful of companies that sells individual parts and also has a body that is on the large side. I would rather the Star thighs, but the jointing is wrong on them, from what it looks like... unless that's a peanut and not the joint. /babbling

    32. MaryamDN; Your animal headresses are truly inspired! Such talent!:dance

ArtsyLaurie; Congratulations on your Joshua! I certainly love mine (Raoul). I can't wait to see him with a faceup. Give him a little time and he'll most likely tell you his name. My dolls seem to tell me. (Either that or I'm hearing voices I shouldn't be hearing!)*_*

SapphireStargazer; So very sorry about what happened to your heads! Also that Aubrey has to wait for his faceup. Clothes are always a problem for the idol guys.....mostly MONEY problems. I have to agree with Elve about Gabriel's new wig. It's a great looking wig, but I think it tends to make him look more "worldly" and less "angelic" than his old wig. I like it, but on another doll please. It just doesn't look like Gabriel to me.:pout:
Drake:sneaky will soon be inundated with relatives. His brother and cousin will both be arriving soon. Going to try shooting pictures of all of them in a group shot. (Either that, or shoot myself! Without a camera. A 45 caliber preferred.) I still intend to get a group shot of the Fangg family, but my cat, Widget, stole Ezmar's pet rat, Biter, and ran off with him. I'll have to get him a new toy that is non-attractive, to cats
before I take a picture. :doh

    33. Sapphirestargazer: i was thinking of taking a picture of the big one on my model with the little one on Dante too <.< the weather is pretty brutal here these days and my model had just come out of surgery for appendicitis x.x so we'll see how that all plays out. i wont be making the antlers for the moose since the person i'm making this for already has the antlers... so my moose looks very strange without them. i will try to remember to take pictures of it as well.
thank you for the complement :)
your blank tony is so beautiful just the way he is! that hair suits him so well!

Grouchy Gnome : thank you :)

    34. Avnia: Please share pics when she get home! Did you order her blank?

MaryamDN: Thank you! I still working on his wig T_T. Oh wow! good outfit! so many details! I like him a lot! You have skills! What? a moose? WOW I can not wait to see that!

ArtsyLaurie: CONGRATS!!! He looks very good and those boots looks good too! I like the brown one... does them fit well? IMPL sent me a nice suit but was for regular SD size, not for Idol... too sad because the suit is so good! Congrats! I like Joshua! and nice sweater!

Sapphire: Sorry for the face up... the sealant are kind of tricky in winter, last weekend I did a face up and I was super happy with the look... and then the same problem happens to me... now I'm kind of frustrated. :doh The new wig looks good, maybe we're not very familiar to see Gabriel with other look... but I think he looks good too with this new hair. The color is so nice! And pale resin is a pain to photograph! I think pink look similar to my DOI guy (OT) and in photos he may look white as a paper. Aubrey and Zach! what a contrast!

    35. So, I may have fallen in love with Otavia : o
The only thing is...she's so big! I stick with mostly msd size dolls, and have one 58cm girl, and I admit the thought of dressing a larger doll intimidates me, lol. Are there any clothes out there for similar size girls that fit these amazons? I'm big on planning ahead, and as this girl would be shelling a very special character to me, I definitely want to make sure I would be able to get ahold of things to fit her if she's next on my list...
      Thanks!

    36. Vevet: I've only tried the brown shoes on him so far and they seem to fit fine. I'm waiting to get him socks before putting shoes on him because I'd hate for them to stain.

I have an MSD and some stuff on order through Alice's collections. That order includes white tights, converse shoes, and glasses for my Joshua besides the clothes and stuff for the other new doll. Earliest shipment for that stuff is the 26th of this month.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! ^_^ I'll post more pics once I get some sewing done. The sweater is a bit slow going to knit, but I've been keeping at it. Other non-doll stuff needs doing or I would've probably had my sewing machine out by now!

Not sure when I'll get to trying my first faceups. I asked my father-in-law about using his garage to spray the sealant (I believe I have Testors Dullcote), & he suggested the basement, but I dunno- ventilation? Might spray in the garage & bring in to dry. It's been in the single digits (F) here the past couple days.

rabidshehamster: The male Idols seem to be about Iplehouse EID size, so maybe check mesurements if the Star woman body is close to EID woman measurements. If they're close enough you can find clothes from Iplehouse or Freedom Teller for her.

    37. is anyone else frustrated with impldoll's way of sculpting girl's eyes? they're so pinched in narrow and the inner corners of the eyes!!!! why!?

    38. I don't know about the eyes, but I'm very frustrated with the way they've painted Otavia's mouth! Squint as much as I like, I can't imagine her blank - and the way they painted her mouth doesn't even follow the contours of the sculpt :?

    39. EXACTLY!!!! it's just....bad -____-. pity, the mold looks like it had so much more potential for a nice faceup...even if they were going for the crazy sexual look <.<

    40. SapphireStargazer: Maybe this time, we'll actually get the chance to meet at AN. Who are you planning on bringing this year? Do you know? Considering that I now have a proper doll bag for my big boys, I might go crazy and bring them, although the idea of lugging that kind of weight around, in addition to my bag of junk, on public transit for 2 hours is daunting.

    41. Thank you for your thoughts and comments on the wig Grouchy Gnome, elve, and vevet. I think it's growing on me a little, but not enough that I've entirely given up on finding the right wig for Gabriel. If I could find one with a similar style and colour to the previous two wigs, but with nice high-quality fiber like this one, I'd be happy. There's one I really like from Iplehouse, but I'm not sure the colour would be right. I may order it later this year anyway, since I'm planning to get a few things for Aubrey from Iplehouse.

Thanks also for your thoughts regarding my other boys' faceups. I just hope they don't look too different when they come back...

Iron_Dog yes, hopefully we actually will get a chance to meet at AN this year! I wasn't at DollNorth the whole time last year because I was going back and forth to events at the main con, too. I'm not sure yet who I'll bring this year. Gabriel came last year, and I really didn't mind carrying him around all day. I want to bring my good camera along this year, though (instead of the useless point-and-shoot thing I stupidly decided to bring last year) so I'm not sure about the logistics of bringing bigger dolls. I think I'll be bringing Liam, my little Lumedoll Blaze, since he's 'travel-sized' but I haven't settled on which of the other resin folks might be making the trip with me.

    42. Vevet: No, I ordered her with a face up, but I did request paler lips

    43. SapphireStargazer: I think I'll have more general con time this year as my duties with Cafe Nocturne should be somewhat less (I think) than they have been when I've been a Cafe boy the last 5 or so years (I'll be mostly behind the scenes this year instead of front and centre). I'd be nice to finally meet someone who populates several of the same threads that I do *grins*.

I'm not sure who is coming with me this time out either. I bring different dolls each year and get their pictures drawn out of artist alley. I have some new dolls but the one needs mods and a face-up and I don't know if that would be done by then (I'm sending him out for the work as I have zero skills in that area). But the smaller dolls are definitely more enticing to bring as they're so much easier to schlep around.
