Recently I was feeling a bit nostalgic for the "good ole' days of BJD collecting. For me personally this would be the period of around 2007 to early 2010's. When gothic and punk clothing paired with teased fur wigs and platform boots (maybe some wings) was all the rage. A period after Volks and Luts had been well established and numerous new companies were emerging constantly. Of these, the ones that fascinated me the most were the "Volks matching" or "Volks compatible" doll companies that offered a darker and edgier alternative such as Immortality of Soul. Those dolls for me are very iconic of that era with their angsty, strung out, "I'm a tortured angel in human form who chain smokes" looking demeanor that seemed to be taken from some of my favorite shōjo manga stories(I think of X by Clamp, Angel Sanctuary, The Betrayal Knows My Name, ect). Therefore, I was quite happy to come across a recently made Class 70 IOS Osiris with original classic company style makeup. This guy was created from a limited time collab with Dolk where a contracted artist replicated the original vintage makeup. I ordered him from DOLK directly and he was shipped quickly in only a couple days and arrived via EMS to California from South Korea in less than a week. Some of the best service I've had honestly. Though I will say the shipping cost was higher than what I usually pay for dolls shipped from Japan or China. But the speed was also much faster than what I'm used to, so a bit of a tradeoff I suppose. He arrived in good order in the typical IOS carboard box with foam cutout insert. Everything was wrapped and contained very nicely. My feline familiars were there to observe of course. I was struck with nostalgia as I was taking him out and assessing him. It's been a while since I had a doll with 'Volksesque" proportions and stylized features as I've mostly had pinheaded, bulky Ringdoll guys lately, but I have to say I really dig it quite a bit. And as I pulled out my crates of clothes, wigs and eyes to see what would stick on him, I was pleasantly stunned to observe how nearly all my predominantly SD17 sized clothing and stuff actually fit him with nearly no issues. I reckon that's part of the beauty of having a Volksy stylized doll - peace of mind knowing it'll never be hard to find clothes that fit him right. He wound up taking a pair of red micro sparkly eyes by TianBa and gray Switch wig that compliments his white skin and gray makeup as well as gray eyelashes. After digging through the wardrobe he ended up with a black turtlenecked look that I felt was faithful to the original concept and vision of Osiris by the artist at IOS as well as a few of my own touches. Shortly after I took him out for a walk so he could feel his environment and come into his own being as I snapped a few pics. He also made himself a furry black friend just like his owner. All and all I'm very happy to get this guy finally. I don't see him very often and the odds of finding a new classic IOS doll with original makeup these days are a bit difficult and I feel quite lucky to be able to welcome him home. Kudos to Dolk for making it happen. My first doll had an old IOS head, but this is my first new full doll from IOS and I find the quality of the resin, body construction and makeup to be very remarkable and obviously lovingly created. I greatly admire the twin sisters behind the company and will have to seek out a classic Mezz now. The experience of acquiring him from Dolk was also quite stress free and I highly recommend. Cheers!
The guy is gorgeous! And yeah, he's got this subtle oldschool vibe. Used to have Osiris about 10 years ago, had to sell him (financial reasons) and been missing him ever since. Maybe I should get one back, too. Yours is so beautiful!
You totally should! He's a classic icon and certainly worth it. The old school vibe is coming back a bit I think looking at Volk's recent sold out gothic fashion collection. There's currently two more from this collab, a white skin and normal skin, with faceup sitting somewhere unsold as of a few days ago. If interested I can point you in their direction.
Cool! I'll be really rgateful Noe sure if I'm ready to buy right away, but I'd like to have something to consider
