Image hosting alternatives?

Jun 14, 2025

    1. Alright, so I can't be the only one having trouble. But lately imgur has been extremely annoying with removing doll photos. Especially if it's a nude doll (for sale posts). I've tried censoring them, I always post on hidden mode, and they still get removed almost immediately.
As for the posts that don't get scrubbed, it seems they may have changed their linking format, because it no longer gives me the type compatible with this site :| I cannot for the life of me get it to work.

So basically.. my question is: are there alternatives besides flickr or photobucket? I dislike those and left them for a reason. Preferably free options, as I am basically an old lady about this, and refuse to pay for this type of service. And also ones that work on mobile.

Or; does anyone know what I'm doing wrong on imgur?

      Thoughts?

    2. I didn't like Flickr either. I ended up making a neo cities for this. It's a website host with a generous amount of space for free accounts. I think all my images hosted from neocities are still visible in the forum... At least the ones I've checked.

    3. @Novalyna i had no idea neocities still existed lol. That's a good idea. I'll look into that

    4. I've used Postimages and ImgBB. Both are easy, have enough free space, and I've had no problems with them deleting or censoring anything. Postimages had some server issues some time ago so I made the switch to imgBB but otherwise they're both pretty okay.

Neocities offers 1gb of free storage which may or may not be enough in the long run, I think it used to be more in the past?

    5. @cobaltconduct ok good to know someone has used postimages. I had seen it but didn't know if it was good or not

Hm only only 1gb may not cut it. I do keep images pretty small and typically delete once things have sold, but maybe i'll skip it for now. Thanks for the info!

    6. I run a little Neocities site and hotlink the images. It's not as convenient as Imgur or others, since I have to resize the images manually to 800px before uploading, but I don't care. Technically it's against their policy to get their storage just to use it for this kind of purpose, so without a website you might get taken down. There's a bandwidth quota but DOA activity uses so little I doubt I'll ever run out.

    7. @lutke oh interesting. Good to know. I mean i could probably make it seem enough like a website if i really care to lol. But it seems they don't really check as a quick search turned up quite a few people that do this! And many say the storage amount is more than enough

    8. What's your trick for posting with Neocities? I've tried to do it in the past and the images didn't want to post correctly.

    9. when I save my images after editing I make sure the maximum size on either side was 800 pixels, I read somewhere on the forum that that was the ideal or best size for here but I can't remember where. Then I just plopped the url into the image embed thingy :)

For whatever it's worth I did end up starting a little website too just as an archive, which I've worked on on and off, using a free layout, even with web pages I haven't made a dent in the storage limit, because of the file resizing I imagine.

    10. If you have a supporter account, you can technically hotlink images from neocities, but you shouldn't. It seems to work even for free accounts, but even so, it's against the server owner's wishes. This is really similar to the reason you aren't allowed to hotlink images from company sites here. There's nothing in netiquette against sharing a link to an image though.

    11. Well, I guess I'm done sharing images online then unless there's some good alternatives :sweat i had used postimgs once for sales and I had to reupload stuff which was annoying. Imgur is unreliable and Flickr is too complicated. Is there nowhere as simple as this anymore?

Edit to add I just checked out imgbb, it is serving me some weird nsfw ads, I guess we're all adults here, but that's not really my jam

    12. I honestly don't think anyone will mind too much about clicking a link if they want to see your image. You wouldn't even need to resize it (but it would be appreciated). The free image hosts these days are really bad, but there's not a huge need for them anymore since the internet population has moved to social media and off forums.

I don't think github has any issues with hotlinking images since resources are hotlinked from there frequently. This isn't going to be a pain free simple solution but it could be an option. I'll look a little further into it. Also, I use mogrify to resize my images and I highly recommend it. It's extremely fast.

Update: a github repo with pages enabled seems to be working for me!

    13. I am pretty familiar with github but I never thought of using as an image host, great idea! :dance:abow:

    14. I will look into github as well!

    15. @nyaaain Aw dammit. I did read a different disclaimer way back when I had an older account, which made me think the key point was just not abusing Neocities as a file host, but this seems more clear about hotlinking. I guess I'll just link until I decide to move. Github seems like a great idea.
