Wearables Ikari - Angry japanese ghost - First outfit completed (02/15/2026)

Jun 6, 2024

    1. Hello everyone! New thread open!

Last year, or maybe the year before, or the year before, I bought two ANS Echo heads. I wanted to make some old characters of mine with them (evil twins), but I wasn't happy with the result. So I sold one of the two, and recently decided to keep the second one. I suddenly wanted to turn the remaining Echo in an angry ghost. I already have a thread about a slightly similar project, with a minifee, but MSD are not my cup of tea so I somewhat wanted to switch the project on a SD doll. Luckily the Echo is an SD. I put her on a Luts girl Senior Delf body.
I also have the original head (a Luts Chloe) that I never liked. I originaly bought her second hand for her body.
And then, a friend of mine gifted me a book about a japanese ghost. The title is "Otake yurei, the faceless woman"

So not only I decided to keep my second Echo for making an angry ghost, but I also decided to keep the Chloe to turn her into an alternative faceless head for my ghost. Heavy mod needed!

Here is a preview of the Echo head, with a not fitting wig and her previous faceup:
      What I'd like to do:

      • Chloe head mods (done on on 06/12/2024)
      • Chloe head faceup (done on september 2024 )
      • Chloe's wig (an untamed black one)
      • Echo head faceup removal (done on 06/05/2024)
      • Echo head faceup (first done on september 2024 currently redoing it)
      • Echo's wig (I would love to have a traditional japanese wig, but I really don't know how to make it)
      • Mask, if I can as a closed-mouth Echo
      • outfit #1 : black furisode with dancing skeletons, white striped grey furisode undeneath and white nagajuban (in progress)
      • outfit #2 : white or beige short kimono + black hakama with skulls

Currently I began the Chloe's mods. I still need to sand the additive mods, and I'd like to change the eyes. I originally wanted to make something like Little Apple Dolls (they are dolls I used to love a lot, before I begin to have BJD. I still own one or two of them)

So black eyes and only some reliefs for nose and mouth. But finally I modified the mouth in a smile and may closed the eyes more like the illustration of my book (see first spoiler). I mean, just a small hollow. I still may change my mind about the eyes. I'll see after I will have sand the current mods. But I won't keep them like they currently are, they don't have same shape than Echo's, and I'm still debating if I want Echo's eyes shape in black, or only a small hollow in "flesh".

      Originally, Chloe was like this:

      Currently, she looks like this:

Yeah I also moddified her ears because Echo has pointy ears ^_^
Still a lot of work to do, it's only the begining. Haha, I may completed her in a few years. I know me.

      Thank you for looking!

    4. You are so talented! :D

This new doll is going to be awesome! :love

    5. Oh I love this project, it's so neat.
Also I have a Little Apple Doll, they have such a cool style. <3

    6. Yesss. This is such a perfect project for your style! She'll match great with your Onis. Echo is one of my personal favorites of your dolls, so I'll be curious to see her new look to fit with this theme. The faceless head already looks incredible- you modded the nose and eyes really well. Also, Little Apple dolls! I haven't seen one in forever, but remember one or two people who had them way back when. Excellent choice for reference.

Definitely a tough choice on the eyes though. A shaded eyeless area would be closer to the book, but little black eyes would make her that much spookier. Either would have its own, unique effect. Ultimately though, whatever looks best to you will complete her. May your modifications go smoothly.

    7. Thank you! I hope I will manage to do something of the poor Chloe I destroyed ^^'

Thank you very much! And you're welcome : sharing motivates me to work on my projects.

Thank you so much! I am eager to paint her faces, but it would be better if I craft the wigs and the mask before. Even if for the faceless smiling Chloe, I wonder if I won't sew a mohair wig... if I do that, I can make the wig after the faceup.

Yes, Little Apple Dolls are interesting, I loved them a lot. I still like those I have left, but I prefer BJD now. BTW they had masks too, if I remember well. I'm making a huge Little Apple Doll, in fact

      Thank you Loptr!
Yep, she will match with my ogres and my kitsune girl! I am still torn between black holes or flesh ones. First the eyes where too pronounced, then not enough... I'm hesitating to sculpt them again. I did a sketch on her face with a pencil and wasn't convinced by black eyes on not enough pronounced holes. So will I let her like she currently is, or try again? Anyway I think I will modify a little more her lips, so I could fill the eyes again if I carve too much.

Edit : Here is how faces are looking right now (forgot to share ^^'):

    8. I tried black eyes (with a quick sketch directly on the face) and I disliked it. So it will be only skin! I began the faceup, with three layers of acrylic paint to hide the mods, and skin effect on top of it. Now it needs to dry four days before I could seal this step and continue.

      Thank you for looking!

    9. I think the "only skin" version looks really, really good! Love the skin effects. That head looks hauntingly real. Great job!

    10. Thank you @Hannya !

I finally found the time to continue Chloe's faceup.

    11. Some news of my Yurei! I've painted her other face.

In progress. I wasn't happy with the look, too cute and too 'alive':

And finished, more bluish and more angry:

I also got her eyes by ashuradark, who did awesome job (again. I'm always happy)

The alternative head is 'finished' too but I find it, like the Echo in progress, not enough bluish:

I don't know if I will leave her like this, rework on it later or redo it completely. While I'm thinking about it, I will do her wigs (even I don't know how yet). I'd like a disheveled cut for Chloe, and a slighlty tousled traditionnal japanese hairstyle for Echo. The one for Chloe will be easy to do, but the traditional hairstyle? I need to look for tutorials.

    12. Really cool!

    13. Your faceups always have such lovely texture. I'm really excited to see where the rest of this project goes, since I really adore how you add so much character to every part of a project

    14. Thank you!

Thanks a lot! Faceups I paint with color match made with acrylics always have a deeper texture ^^

Here is a really small update! A friend gifted me three lovely fabrics with skeletons or skulls on it. She told me she took three, that way I could make on outfit with the three if I wanted (as I need one fabric for the inner kimono, one for the outer kimono and one for hakama). But this night I was thinking about wich of my yokai would be the best suitable for wearing outfits with skulls and I finally decide that Ikari was the best choice! I always knew I wanted mostly white for her, but not just white (or I would make only one outfit and I dislike having only one outfit for one doll). So the yellow fabric will be for my ogres, and the two black will be for two outfits in black and white for Ikari ^^

I'm eager to begin a furisode with the fabric with the skeleton.

    15. I finally choose a white striped grey fabric for the inner kimono for first outfit. I plan to stain the bottom in brown, and have painted handprints on it (very fun to do).
I didn't sew the sleeves to the body yet, as I didn't sew the lining for the body.

      Thank you for looking!

    16. This is absolutely amazing :O
I love the idea with the handprints!

    17. Thank you so much @Hannya ! I had a lot of fun while painting the black handprints. But I haven't work on her outfit since january, shame on me. ^^'

This week I decided that I disliked Echo's faceup. So I wiped it, and I'm currently redoing it. Here is it, unfinished yet, but I like it faaaar better than before.

    18. I'm a fan of her character, the heads are magnificent! I really love the alternative head (that's my fav one) ! I can't wait to see what happens next.

    19. Thank you @demonslawa !

Faceup of the Echo head is finished! And the wigcap is in progress, but I'm still hesitating so much to begin the wig itself... The under kimono is also slightly mire advanced, I started to stain the bottom (no pic yet).

      Here is the faceup completed:

    20. I love the detail on the wounds! I found myself zooming in to try and work out if there was some 3d medium to make them look so realistic or if it was very clever paintwork.
      Either way, excellent job!

    21. Thank you so much @castironteapot ! It's only paintwork. I put multiples layers of paint (acrylik inks, mostly diluted in water) to achieve this effect without 3D :)

    22. What an amazing faceup! The details are perfect, she looks so real and spooky! This is truly a work of art.

    23. Thank you very much @Hannya ! (Oh, a popodoll Phoenix! :love)

I finally am working again on her first outfit. I tried it on her and 1) her sleeves are too neat, 2) the handprints don't go enough high. I will fix that.

    24. I love her ! can't wait to see what happens next !

    25. She looks SO cool! That outfit works so well on her. Like, I love that it looks so clean and orderly on top and then you get down to the bottom and there are these stains and the handprints. It's such a great idea.

      • x 1
    26. Thank you ♥

Thank you very much! I only stained the bottom of the sleeves so it keeps the clean look on top and the stains on bottom ^^

Here is a pic of the inner furisode finished:

    29. Thank you so much Demonslawa!

Thanks a lot Lutke! I'm glad if she is spooky, for me she looks rather... cute? I love her smile

Small progress on her outfit! I sewed a sleeveless nagajuban for her (you can only see it at the collar) and I tore the 'obi' (a simple white piece of fabric).

Here is the obi's destroy in progress:

      And the outfit currently:

Now I need to begin the outer furisode.

    31. Thank you so much QuietYurei! I hope you will like her when she will be completed! Or at least presentable, as I use to finish not a lot of my projects.

Her first outfit is still in progress months after ^^'
I'm on the outer furisode now, but I forgot what measures I used for the inner kimono so I need to undress her and measure it. The sleeves are sewed, currently. It "only" miss the body, haha.

When outer furisode will be sewed, I'll stain the bottom and sleeves like the inner furisode. I also need to do the same for the piece of fabric I used for the obi. It is too neat. I tryed to craft some geta but so far it's a fail. I have the wigs to craft too (echo's wigcap is done, but I need to buy some super long black straigt hair).
Also @Kurosakura draws my attention some months (years?!) ago on skeletal jointed hands available on legenddoll, and I need to put my hands on them for Ikari (thank you again for showing them to me, Kurosakura!)

      Thank you for looking!

    32. I was just thinking... hands... then I read the words after the image, lol. Soom Monzo hands or someone from the Dollpire?
Skeletal or long claws... where have they been? what does she do with them ...just ewww, but in a good way! Your choice and skills will be better than my imaginings!

      • x 1
    33. Thank you @Valdemagra for your kind comment!

I still haven't ordered new hands for Ikari, but I'm working on her outer furisode as much as I can. Now it only miss the lining and a good ironing. And staining on the bottom.

I also worked again on the bottom of the inner furisode. I tryed to aged it more, staining it with white acrylic and damaging the fabric as if it was long weared. I don't think it is as obvious as I wished but I like it nontheless.

      Thank you for looking!

    34. Gosh, she is SO amazing!!! :D

    35. The inner furisode looks great! I like thr slight damage to the fabric and the little touches of white paint give the suggestion of wear in a humid Japanese climate

    36. Thank you so much! :)

      Thank you very much! :aheartbea

No pic yet, but outer furisode is finished so first outfit is completed! I hope there will be enough light on sunday to take decent photos of the outfit in all its spooky glory, haha. :aangel:
