If your doll became a person. What's the first thing you would do?

Oct 18, 2017

    1. I am an avid writer and role player so for the most part, my ocs came first and I shelled them afterwards. I more or less know them as if they were my best friends. As far as I'm concerned the dolls are just their models and their specs in real life would be different.

I'll use my current doll as an example. Bruna happens to be a harpy mail carrier. If she weren't a doll she'd be about 4'9 and once she gets her bearings she'd be a pretty laid back person.

If my doll Bruna suddenly came to life as a living being the first thing I would do is check out her wings. Afterwards the two of us would probably go out and grab a bite to eat. If someone asks about the harpy wandering around I'd tell them she was cosplaying a Rito from breath of the wild.

What about the rest of you? What would you do and what would your dolls be like?

    2. I would cry. I'm a roleplayer myself and I love my characters so much I just wouldn't be able to hold my tears back. I already love them as if they were my own children. One of my dolls is just a 12 years old boy. Just imagine how excited I would be to see his bubbly self brightening everyone's mood just like he always does in the story.

    3. I'm also a writer, and most of my original characters pre-date my BJD collecting, too. Like @Stardust- Firelight, I don't see my dolls as the characters themselves, but more as a 3D snapshot of the character at a specific moment in time. To me, the characters are dynamic and evolving, and they are just as alive and real to me in my imagination as an actual person in real life would be. If my dolls became real people, they'd be life-size (as the characters are human/humanoid beings).

I would love it if Tyler became a real person. Probably the first thing I'd do is hug him :) We would most likely be very close friends. He's my most important and dearest OC, and I already know and love him.

hehehehe it might be entertaining if some of my more exotic dolls/characters came to life as real beings. Aenon is a water sprite. He's purple and about 65cm tall (pretty much just like his resin avatar, really). The first thing I'd do if Aenon became a living being would be to hide all the breakable objects :XD:

    4. Oh My God. That sounds like it would be a hoot! Or a nightmare, depending on the state of your home ^_^

    5. If any of them came to life I'd tell them to get a job or get out.:XD: Seriously, I already have two useless cats I'm supporting, I'm not taking on anymore freeloaders!

    6. I'd be like, lemme be yo match maker

    7. I'm the opposite in regards to character or doll first. I have many characters and for me putting them into a doll shell would feel a bit like putting on a shoe that doesn't quite fit and your foot getting deformed by it. So I create characters for dolls. And if they came to life, well, I'd be a little freaked out. One is a 6+ foot irritable redheaded guy in pants that will probably fall right off, and the other is a little goblin that doesn't speak English and would immediately vanish into some nook or cranny. She would stay about the same size though, imagining her much bigger feels wrong.

Maybe if I could wait until I was in a position where I wouldn't have to explain them to my parents. And Elliot would be asking after Ollie and Ji-han (whose floating heads hopefully haven't come to life :ablah:) and would be wondering why I hadn't completed them yet. Maybe he could earn the money to do that, if he could get work authorized somehow. But I don't make the dough to take care of three full grown people. *_* Yeah, they are better off as dolls.

    8. Oh god, I would have quite a problem on my hands!!

although I have many other & older OCs, I decided to treat my dolls as their own characters specifically tailored to their physical forms - however, I still have a written story canon for them, and, in order to accomodate the differences in real physical size between SDs and MSDs... my boys are over nine feet tall in their stories.

so.... my dolls becoming people suddenly would be quite something!! the poor guys wouldnt even be able to properly walk indoors :'D I keep them in a closet and, while it's large, im sure it wouldnt be very comfortable to try and get them both out of there!

Theyd definitely frighten me at first lol - who wouldnt be scared to find a pair of giants in their closet??
Then i'd try to get them as comfortable as possible, what with the space limitations in here :'D

At least they're both considerate sweethearts, unlike some of the other doll characters i have planned. Honestly I'd worry that they felt embarassed or bad for inconveniencing me and my roommate - or Caspian, at least. Rowe might be too occupied with fussing over Caspian lol.

edit: oh god kathy's comment reminded me; Rowe is, in canon, just a disembodied head for a while. Here's to hoping they wouldnt manifest at that point in their story, eek!!!

    9. My story is Sci-Fi/Horror. However, I believe I would be okay with most of them coming to life and after the initial shock: introduce them to my family, possibly get some of them psychiatric help, put some in school, and other regular things. But...one of them worry me. He's basically a very advanced android that follows the "robotic overlord" trope. In my story, my characters refer to him as "The Peeling Man". So if he came to life, I think we'd be in trouble lol. Unless they stay doll sized, then it'd just be cute.

    10. I think I'd be really embarrassed because my dolls have seen me at my worst :frownyblush: but I guess, I have also seen them at their worst. It would probably be an uncomfortable "first" meeting.

I'm genuinely more curious how the dolls would react to us. Do they have memories of us taking them apart? Taking a knife to their face? Spraying toxic fumes directly to their face? O_O

      • x 2
    11. That's a pretty good question. I hadn't thought of that. Bruna probably would give me the side eye if she remembered. But then, what I did with her is pretty simplistic just took off a few markings and put some shorts on her.

      Thoughts anyone?

    12. Find it a paying job, asap. And teach it the basics of house cleaning and small repairs. We'd discuss the metaphysical underpinnings later.

    13. I'm a writer too but I create the characters for the dolls, otherwise I would need hundred of dolls lol

I can't imagine them as people, because I like their stilized dolls look. But if they did come to life I would start with house rules and make a priority to protect the house lol

    14. I'd suddenly have two VERY adorable boys to take care of and send off to school. The others though... I don't think I know HOW I'd react other than shock. I write and DO have characters, but for the most part I've found that buying a doll and making a character later work best for me. I only have ONE doll [who is a floating head lol] who is based on an exsisting character.

I might ask Daniel if he could help us with our car loan though! As a nobleman he has enough money and no kids to split it between...

    15. As someone else said, I'd send them off to work! A couple of my boys are professionals capable of making the big bucks so I'd be real thrilled to all of a sudden get all these sons & grandsons LOL Plus the girls, sure :D Instant family with me as matriarch - although I've an 80 year old Italian grandma doll who would rip THAT title from me, I realize belatedly HA!
Now, if my Voudun priestess doll (NOT a BJD but a cloth doll made BY a real priestess in Haiti in the 1930s) came alive, well, look out :O

    16. *looks at her dolls* I'd run screaming ...

      • x 2
    17. Mmm, i only have beautifull girls....but thats a problem too..... I think girls
      With each other......yikes

    18. Depends on which doll. If Joren came to life, I'd buy her ice-cream and enroll her in kindergarten ASAP. She's earned it!

    19. It would probably be pure hell. XD I'm 34, and most of my dolls are either in the 16-22 age range or small children, and that in itself could be awkward. I'm happily married and have a steady secure home, job and life, most of them are still figuring out who they are, what they want and where they belong. Their priorities are finishing school, finding relationships, and starting careers, I'm already past all of that. Several of them are also musicians (a few are celebrities in their story), and I'm tone deaf. We really wouldn't hang out, realistically.

The only ones I think I could be friends with are Opaline, Lakin and Jack. They're all significantly younger than me, but Opaline and I have the same job (Spencers) and both like spooky stories, Lakin and I have a ton of similar interests and he's pretty sweet, and Jack and I would just ply Nintendo games all day and call each other immature names. :P

And then there are the tiny creatures....the devil mouse, the Enfield Horror, the ghost, the snail anthro. They'd be interesting, but probably not something I'd want in my house! I wouldn't want to deal with the cleaning and care of the turtle or hamsters. Now...the dog is actually a mini version of my own dog, and if any came to life, I'd want it to be her!

    20. I'm also a writer/RPer! I'm not sure what I'd do because the personalities for both of my dolls are the types of people I like write, but might not necessarily want to interact with if I met them in real life. Not saying they're not nice boys but it would just be too weird! They'd have so many questions about why I did what I did....

Okita was shelled from an OC I RPed with for a long time, but my newer boy I got the sculpt and then shelled a character for him to play as after I already had him for a while. They're both the size of real people though, and they're both magical creatures, kind of, so it'd be...interesting, I guess. They'd probably get along with each OTHER really well at least though.

    21. I would probably run for my life and call for an exorcism ... been reading and watching too many horror related stuff!! I love my dolls as the perfect photography subjects, and enjoy giving them slight character so that I know how to portray them, but coming alive... well the greatest benefit is probably them being able to pose on their own!

    22. I'd be in trouble... I have quite a few, and if they all became human sized at once, our once spacious condo wouldn't have any room left! Hopefully most of them could find jobs, and we could find a bigger place to live lol

      • x 1
    23. Oh dear. There's not enough space for me to display them all, one or more of them turning human would be disastrous. Not to mention some are from different times and places, and a few have serious medical needs.

      • x 1
    24. I'd be amazed. Centaurs and fairies! Then, deeply concerned about their future.

      • x 3
    25. Since I have over 20 dolls, if they all came to life, that's a whole lot of people to house and feed. And, once they all found their places in the world, would they move away? Would I see them only at holiday gatherings? They would be like real people now, so they would want their own lives. That would, to me, be heartbreaking! I like having them all with me, that's why I have them!

      • x 2
    26. Apologize, then get them more clothes.

      • x 2
    27. It would be a deeply confusing experience for everyone considering 5 of my dolls are different iterations of the same two people. Also I am really not ready to mom five kids (of which only three are human, the other two are a werewolf and a sentient plant) and two grown ups (one a vampire) who might as well be!!

      • x 2
    28. Well my girl can talk to nature so I would be sitting out on the porch in the sun and having some conversations with the trees and any animals or insects that happened to come.

    29. Years ago, around 2009, I dreamt that 2 of my dolls Isao and Yukinojou were real people, they were tall and mascular. So, I can answer the question posed in this thread easily - If they were real people, I’d make them carry all my heavy stuff around. Manpower is always useful when doing groceries etc.....

    30. I think I would cry. I'm also an avid writer (I've had to cut back on my role playing due to adulting) and my characters predate their dolls. Heck half of my OCs don't even have shells yet bease I'm too broke! But I feel like I'd give them all super big hugs and never let go. Some of my cinnamon rolls need protection

    31. Good question, now for my dolls to suddenly come to life and be human sized...........well I don't think I could handle being seen in the public eye everyday let alone the government and CIA, FBI would try to take Tisa and Sable from me (good luck they are aliens in human form), then there is Jade and Mercedes along with Terry and Rain and V( yea the same V from the movie with a Vendetta) would all start war with humans and not too mention the entire planet of Endor would come to this galaxy and possibly destroy this planet making trying to explain all this to my mom that is not in the best of health and my husband would be like WTF Boo! Then my blood pressure is already high as is.......nope my dolls are staying as dolls....now as for my Minimee Atsushi....:wiggle

    32. Move to another town and encourage others to do the same... I have super villains as dolls.

      • x 4
    33. I would have to do this too, that's what you get for shelling villainous vampires instead of cute friendly fluffbunnies :doh

      • x 1
    34. I think I'm weird because none of my dolls are villains or evil. No vampires or demons in my crew. I do have several fairies however.
I would apologize to them for their boring little lives. And also stop undressing in front of them. I'm 68 and "chubby" so it's not a pretty sight.
If I were a lot younger I'd ask my Soom Zak for a date.

    35. Depends on who came to life. Satoru I'd strap down so he doesn't attempt to jump out the window. Kei... I'd probably make tea for. And definitely hide the alcohol in case of Chuuya. If it was Ken or Miharu I'd probably cry and snuggle him for hours though... my crew is... quite varied for sure...

    36.

    37. I would give them hugs. :XD: then I would have to get another job to support them. One eats a lot, and the other only wears expensive clothes :sweat

    38. Scream

    39. Heh, I had a dream this actually happened to my boy. My reaction was practically fawning over him like a proud momma because I overheard some people commenting how good-looking he was. He was also offering me a chair so I could rest my legs, but of course, I kept saying he should take it, as he's my responsibility. XD

    40. Oh that would be great! I would have a doctor, a mechanic, 2 witches, 4 bodyguards.... not sure what to do with the vampires and devils though. But the rest should get jobs and I sure hope they don't remember all those months they spent inside their boxes wrapped in foam and bubble wrap. Oh and that time that they had no choice but to wear "girly" wigs

    41. Faint. I've seen too many Annabelle movies :shudder

    42. Depends on which it was, if it was, say Etesian, I'd be dead.
She is, if I was to give her an alignment, Neutral Evil, and if she had her powers, well... Then the world might be up the creek without a paddle...

    43. Shave my legs. If Nadir came alive, I'd shave my legs.

    44. If it was Bob I'd find some pigeons or something to keep him occupied and if it was Drew I'd just sit and talk to him while awkwardly hoping that he only remembers what his character remembers and not all the things that've happened to his physical doll self. That'd be awkward... "Hi yeah about that time my hand slipped and I accidentally knocked your head into the wall? I'm sorry man"
Then again, if he did remember stuff that happened to his physical doll self I'd just ask about what that's like, "Does it hurt when I change out your eyes or remove your headcap? Do you feel awkward when I change out your outfits? Am I buying you the stuff you want? Do you judge me?"

      • x 2
    45. For my main boy, I'd hug him and tell him I'm sorry for all the stuff I put his character through. :XD:

    46. I'd get her a comfy mattress to sleep on - having a good nights sleep is important! Right now she sits on crocheted blanket a kind person made for her when I participated in a Valentine's day swap :whee:

    48. I hug her and I will cry so hard, she's like a daughter or a my dear little sister for me so...

    49. Haha. I'd probably apologize for all the awkward things I do. (Dressing myself in front of them, dressing them in front of the others, touching and pulling all parts of their bodies...)
So yeah, apologize first and then freak out!

    50. Politely ask Lux to tune my violin, ask Remy to show me how to cook whatever basic recipe I want to try at the time, and then we all gather in the kitchen to wait, cook, and chat, and I try to pick Adari’s brain re: drafting clothing patterns.

They’ve all got something to teach me. :XD:

    51. If my dolls were a living person, I'd like to have a free health check up with the doctors, as a few of my dolls are doctors with different skills. I'd find a few nannies for the tinies too. :whee:

    52. I think I'd be so happy :...( My little Mila is my baby and I'd love to take care of her and play with her like she was my own child. I think it may be different if I had an "adult" doll, but since my only doll is based off of a child I'd love to spend time with her and dress her up in cute outfits and play with her favorite toys! (She loves bunnies and has a pink stuffed bunny that she sleeps next to every night)

    53. Another writer here. All my dolls are characters from the novels I write. I'd be both excited and afraid. Not afraid of my guys, but afraid of the effects of the crazy karma one of my guys has. Moswen has a chaos effect that surrounds him and tends infects those close to him. Basically, something disastrous happens, usually on a grand scale that seems utterly horrible at first but eventually ends up being really good. Just... getting to that good ending is hellacious.

It would certainly be a challenge with all my guys suddenly coming to life as I live in an apartment and wouldn't be able to house everybody (I currently have 50 dolls). Additionally, I only have 1 that is human with the rest of them being gods, demons, elves, fairies, satyrs, etc. Explaining them would be difficult since so many don't look human. But I'd be really excited to have them around me because they are all so dear to me as characters and generally already feel very real to me (which makes me sound a bit touched, but whatever).

      • x 1
    54. I think I might cry and repeatedly say sorry for "mishandling" her.
Not in a bad way, but more like twisting her arms, taking her wig off or sometimes even taking the whole head off, just so I can put on a really nice top or dress.

I might also ask her if she's hungry, since you know she haven't ate anything since the day she was "born" and she probably looked at me eating countless times.

    55. Oh my goodness, I would really worry about not having put the new doll's eyes in yet. Also, if they were human sized, that would require them having a bedroom and I don't really have one free right now!

It would almost be better if they came to life and stayed doll size. Might really not work out well for the one who is in a box on the way from China right now. I doubt if he has a passport.

I don't think I would like it, actually. I enjoy living alone. I'd have to give up on just messing around with sewing and stuff when I feel like it or when I'm not busy. My poor ebay doll hasn't even gotten a new outfit yet! She's wearing a barbie shirt and some pants from my 17" MH doll. No shoes, no eyes, and her wig is also on the way from China.

      I'll pass.

    56. Cry tears of happiness and hug each of them... I would feel like a god. If this were a repeatable phenomenon I’d sit down with pen and paper and shortly populate an entire village!

But most of them couldn’t or wouldn’t stick around for long. Lord Blacksnow would be off to conquer a nation, Lysander would need to be where the nightlife and fashion scene is, and Gladys... Gladys is inherently suspicious and spiteful toward other young women and would not get along with me one bit.

Polite, helpful, intelligent and nature-loving Gailan would be a welcome house guest anytime. Uriah? Yeah, much as I’d love to jam and have a few drinks with him, my husband would smell trouble and boot his butt out the door...

    57. ... run. I've played Nameless, I've seen what happens when you're dolls come to life It's way too easy to die in that game and my one boy is a slightly unhinged yandere. My house would not be safe

    58. Make sure they all know what dumbasses they are..... Id Huh Elio and probably chill out with him but Thaddeus I would smack so hard

    59. Oh my god, I better hope this never happens, because they would all gang up and murder me in my sleep.

    60. I'm another who is a role player/author. As most of my dolls are fantasy dolls (and all based on characters from my novels), I think I'd have to take some time to calm them all down and explain what a car is and that the coffee machine is really making coffee and isn't run by evil. After they get used to things like electricity, they'll have to get jobs because there are so many of them. On the bright side, after they're all working, we could get a nice place with 50 rooms, though I'd probably have to set the antagonists up in their own place. They would cause problems otherwise.
