So for context, I have a DC Dora that I need to pose "loafing" in order to fit on a shelf, however I am worried about her blushing on her joints getting stained or chipped by this. Are their any solutions anyone found that they can share with me? I am using a dish towel currently but its not very pretty.
If you trim the towel down to her size, it could be like a beach blanket! (If you don't want to cut that one up, the dollar store should have some cute towels for the right texture.) Unless you mean you have it folded and bundled to give her support?
I crocheted a bean bag. Mine’s bright red so it’s not in use but you can easily pick another color of yarn. Just crochet a circle as wide as you want for the base, quit increasing to build up the sides, then decrease back into the center. I stuffed it with leftover plastic shopping bags, arranged in a circle with a gap right under the center. Then tied off and bent around as needed. Maybe a stitch or two in the center to tie the two sides together and make it easier to sit the doll down. I can’t remember if I put that in or not, but a fabric/stuffing variation would likely need that. Stuffing could probably work for filling, although I like the support of the plastic bags, or actual beans. The crochet could probably be replaced with fabric as well. Edit: Just realized the “is not furniture” part Maybe that still counts? If not, a large crochet granny square could be some sort of blanket.
Maybe some pretty cloth that matches her style? Could go to a fabric store and find some plush cloth that you'd only need maybe 1/4 of a yard for her to loaf on. Add some tiny pillows and it looks like a floor seat area. You could even turn the material into a thin cushion with some foam inside to make something like this for her.
Thank you this one could work. I have a nice fabric store near me that i could buy fabric from. I could even get quilt filling as padding.
You could always use a shelf liner, or use something like velvet, to line the shelf she's sitting on. But then, any cloth you may use that's a bright color could stain, so that should be considered as well. I have a shelf liner that is made of a type of foam, so that it has a little more grip to it. It's both great for keeping tea cups still, as well as dolls who may like to shift around on ya~
Hmmm you could try using some softer fake grass, or get some various green yarns and make a mossy patch for her like those moss rugs. Toss in some tiny fake flowers and you could have a nice little setting. (seen some moss rugs were they add some blue to it to make some water that thought was cute)
Wish we had a photo to go on but here goes anyway: Where you can, I'd put small bits of unbleached muslin where your bjd contacts a surface - making the muslin as unnoticeable as possible, maybe inside her clothes. The 2 don'ts I have are: don't let her rest on black, red or dark colors as those colors tend to transfer to resin over time and don't let her rest directly on synthetic items like foam, pleather, etc. Some types of synthetics decay over time and get gummy, sticky or brittle, even with no sunlight exposure. (I could tell you stories...) Overall, I recommend enjoying your DC Dora to the max. Like humans, BJDs will accumulate little booboos throughout their lifetime but it just shows they were loved.
I agree with the fabrics, and the crochet'd beanbag is such a cute idea I might steal it for myshelf You could probably find a cute dish towel as well that doesn't look super dishtowel-y and is more just decorative, or lacey doilies depending on what the style your going for is? Or make a small doll quilt (or find some in thrift shops) for her to sit on.
