Eyes I made eyes for the first time!

Jun 12, 2023

    1. Today I made my first pair of eyes! They're basic dark brown 8mm eyes with a tiny (2.5mm!) iris. I'm pretty satisfied with how they turned out simply because of sizing. They fit perfectly! I tried painting the irises buh it kinda just looks like a paint blob :XD: I think my boy is happy though! :chibi

      Materials:
      8mm mother of pearl beads
      polymer clay
      acrylic paint (brown, black)
      ZM shine pearl powder (white)
      clear UV resin

    4. Great job! What a handsome lad.

    5. I've been thinking about making my own eyes as well! Your eyes turned out great and I definitely agree that the sizing is perfect for him.

      Thank you! :chibi I'll continue to post pictures of him as I customize! You shall see him more often :XD:

      @lilybot
      Thank you! If you have the supplies for what you intend to make, I recommend giving a try! I found making the eyes to be far less intimidating than trying to do a faceup for example. It felt a lot more forgiving and they turned out well despite my accidental paint glooping :XD: I've been trying to practice faceups off and on over the past few weeks as well and I've probably wiped like five times already :sweat

    7. Yeah, I do have some supplies like clay and paint! I think I shall do some experimenting today!! :)

    8. They came out very nice! Is polymer clay easier to handle when making bjd eyes vs resin?

    9. Thank you! I'm not sure I can answer the question though. I only used a tiny slice of painted polymer clay which was fit into the drilled beads to create the iris part, then I put a drop of clear resin on top to fill it in and create the dome part. Nothing was casted from a mold or anything like how I think most eyes are made. I don't have any experience with either material other than what I've described. :XD:

    10. Got it! I’m new to eye making as well. But you did great! Thank you for the advice on your process.
