Hello everyone, After painful savings I manage to buy my first dollfie. A DD from Volks international. When I got her I never considered the customs fees!! My order + shipping cost about 400€ and she is at the customs here in Greece for 4 days now. I am so afraid of the fees. I don't have that much money right now and I don't know what I will do if I get a crazy fee :/ From your experience how much you think I will have to play?? Do you think it will be more then 50€? Can someone give me some info? I am panicking!!
Customs charges are hit and miss - not everything gets hit, but every doll I've imported (nothing else, even if it costs more) has been hit. I just did a rough estimate of the charges you're likely to get, guessing the delivery and original price and the duty calculator estimates around 115.12 Euro in charges, so it is likely to be more as the calculator indicated your item would have an import duty rate of 4.7% and VAT rate of 23%. This is just an estimate based on the figure you gave. If you want to know roughly how much to expect with the exact figures, use this calculator: http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation ^_^ I find it very handy. Hope that helps.
:S thank you very much for the info. Omg it's really bad. Well I guess now I know this will be the last dollfie I'll ever buy :S Your link is very useful
It can be pretty bad, though I've been lucky enough to only have ever been hit into the hundreds once (though I expected it and saved ahead - it was coming from the States, so I knew I'd be hit badly, customs here hits every package from the states xD). Quite a few companies mark down, but Volks International isn't one of them. Those that have been hit with low charges have been marked down without me asking but I do appreciate the low charges. XD I'm sure your girl will be worth it and don't leave the hobby just because of one bad customs charge. The best thing to do is find a company with a doll you like that marks the value lower or plan ahead to have saved the customs charge. (I do the latter, I'm used to saving an extra bit now for my boys. XD) If you need someone to talk to, just PM me. I'd be happy to listen. :3
Hmm there seems to be a lot of threads at the moment about Customs fees. At the end of the day, it is the law of the country and really it's tough titties. I've probably forked out a fair thousand to the UK government for my dolls, yes it's a bit of a pain, but I am under no illusions about it. Just take a customs bill into consideration when buying and allow for it. I wouldn't recommend asking the company to lower the declared value as that is actually illegal- in the UK you would be fined for that if customs found out. It's just part and parcel of being in a hobby where we collect items which need to be imported- customs and VAT has to be paid. I wish it didn't, but it does.
