Wearables Hyzenthlay's sewing adventures

Jul 29, 2023

    1. I've been making clothing for my dolls since I started collecting, pretty much, so I thought it would be a fun idea to create a thread to document my sewing.

I mostly make really simple things like jumpers, t-shirts, hoodies. This might end up being a little bit samey but never mind. Hopefully it will be interesting to see anyway.

I usually use fabric from unwanted human clothes, or secondhand clothes bought from charity shops or ebay. I find I can get some really cool patterns and prints this way. Plus it's good for the environment to reuse things, right? And hunting for interesting clothes to use is great fun.

(I must remember to take progress pictures! Or at least before and after pictures haha)

So my most recent thing I made was from a tshirt I bought from ebay with a skull print on it. I thought I could make it into a jumper for Peter, my Migidoll Jina. But it actually ended up looking really cute on my sleeping Soony girl, Gigi.

      This was the t-shirt:

And all cut up ready to sew:

      And done!

I kept the leftover fabric from this t-shirt because white is a useful colour to use in other projects.

    2. Love the jumper! The print looks really good set asymmetrically like you did. It's funnyYou've always made really nice and cozy casuals. :kitty2
I just updated my thread of upcycled clothes sewing with projects using graphic t-shirts too. Good ideas are worth sharing, yeah? :XD::aheartbea

    4. This looks so good! It ended up really clean and it looks extremely proffesional. How are those sleeve ends that are tighter made by the way? I’ve wondered if its something you have to make yourself or buy…

Have you considered selling the stuff you sew? :chibi

    5. I really like how you framed the skull in the doll version! Gigi will share right? It looks great on her, but I want to see it on Peter when she's tired of it! :whee:

    7. Awwww thank you for the lovely comments everyone :D I was actually really anxious after I posted this, thinking no-one would be interested :sweat

Ahhh I saw your thread! It was part of what inspired me to start my own. I was meaning to go over there and comment but I was feeling really tired and shy at the time :sweat But yeah, I was thinking how cool it was that you also do the upcycling thing!

Oh thank you! The sleeve ends - I make them tighter by using ribbed fabric, which is slightly stretchy. I pull on it a little bit when I'm sewing it on, so that it's stretched. Then when it's done it will contract and be tighter. If that makes sense! In this case, the t-shirt I was making it from had ribbed fabric around the neck so I cut it off and used that, but back when I used to sew a lot I would have ribbed fabric in basic colours that I bought specifically for this purpose.

I used to sell my clothes but I kind of lost the energy for it. I'm just trying to get back into sewing for my own dolls now.

Thanks! I took quite a while trying to decide how to frame it because it was too big to fit it all on. Difficult decisions xD
Peter actually did wear it for one picture but me being me I didn't even get the jumper in the shot, I was too busy focusing on his cute face

    8. how did you get the collar so neat and flat??? that seems to be my biggest struggle with regards to casual doll clothes.

amazing work, she looks so fashionable and sweet.

    9. Yeah, I've been asked this a few times and I do have a particular method that I think is easy (I find it easy anyway) so I was thinking of making a little tutorial next time I sew something.

      And thanks so much! <3

    10. I made another jumper! I wasn't sure how this one would turn out because I was making it from a knitted jumper which was quite thick, and in a smaller scale, for my JID Tania (1/4). But I think it turned out really cute. I intentionally went out looking for a jumper with these colours because I had a particular look in mind for her (I wanted it to look vintage and autumnal)

I have a lot of material left over from this so I'm thinking I will make another one in SD size.
