Aesthetics Hybridizing an Obitsu 55 and Obitsu 60 in the year 2025

Oct 21, 2025

    1. So...
1/3 scale male vinyl dolls. There aren't many options.
One of my DDs is supposed to be a guy. Currently, he's got a DD 2.0 f-3 body with the SS bust on. This works pretty well, except no amount of baggy shirts have been able to cover the hips enough for me. It's gotten to the point where I've accepted I need to try something else.
So then I thought to myself, what ARE my options in this case? Here's what I thought of:

-DD Boy body: probably the most obvious one here. They're not the most easy to obtain, but they do come up second-hand often enough, and even sometimes for semi-reasonable prices. That being said, they're extremely skinny, which works in some cases, but I think it won't work for me in this specific situation.

-Male body from a certain off-topic vinyl company: Really hard to get second-hand, and usually pretty expensive. They seem to be making them in the color that matches DD Flesh again these days, though, so that's nice. I have no need for the head, so I wouldn't want to buy one new, especially since the first-time buyer process seems kind of complicated over there. Also, they're a bit too muscular for what I need right now...

-DD body with third-party pieces: There's a seller called fiorista/fioristaflowers that makes male torso pieces for DD bodies. These are sold out right now, but I've seen a few secondhand. They're made of resin instead of vinyl, from what I can tell, but (to be honest) I think the mix of resin and vinyl might start bothering me at some point. Also, they're too muscular for what I need too :XD:

-Putting the DD head on a resin body: I'm sure there are plenty of bodies out there that this would work with. I just didn't feel like researching it. Putting a vinyl head on using an S-hook also scares me a bit, although I know there are ways it can be done without hurting the vinyl head.

-Obitsu 55 with obitsu 60 legs: The Obitsu 55 is a nice body, but I need it to be a little bit taller. I've seen plenty of old posts where people took the 60 legs and put them on the 55 body, or took the 55 torso pieces and put them on a 60 to get a 60 cm boy body.

Now, there are also some pretty big and obvious cons involving this last option too, mainly that both of those bodies have been discontinued for several years at this point. That being said: If there's one thing you need to know about me, it's that I keep getting obsessed with old and discontinued dolls. I think that aesthetically speaking, the Obistu 55 is the closest to what I wanted for this body. I'll just be on the lookout for any spare replacement pieces secondhand, I guess...

Around the time I was having this dilemma, I found an obitsu 55 for auction for a really good price. He had some pretty bad staining, but other than that, he looked great. No uneven yellowing, no broken parts...
Here are some of the listing photos so you can get an idea of the staining. Anyway, no one else bid on him, so I got him. This was when Buyee was offering a little bit of free storage time, so he sat there for a while.

After this, I started looking for an Obitsu 60, so I could hopefully ship them at the same time. Then I found the listing for this girl, who I actually watched get deleted and re-listed before I eventually bought her.
(Collaging a few listing photos again so they don't take up too much space.) There is... a lot going on with this one. Bad lighting making it impossible to tell how dirty/stained the body is, the torso and limb color differences, the extra head that I couldn't initially identify from the photos... we'll get to it!

After buying both bodies that I needed, I went ahead and nabbed an obitsu 60 body ->DD head adapter too. I have an obitsu 50 body ->DD head adapter from the same seller already, so I know they're good.

With all these items bought, I (eventually) shipped my package. Buyee decided UPS was the best carrier for this one, I guess, despite the current situation UPS may or may not have going on with their international packages. I got lucky, though, because I got mine without any issues. So without (any more) further ado, here's the box (MSD for scale):
She's leaning a bit, but the box is 71 cm. I think this solidifies ~70 cm as my personal limit for doll size :XD:
Both bodies came fully assembled, but the Obitsu 55 also came with its original box, which certainly contributed to the package height. (Side note: I actually have an Obitsu 60 box already, despite not having an Obitsu 60 before this. Long story.)
The doll this body is meant for is currently in another state than I am, so I'm not going to be able to fully complete this project until sometime next year, but in the meantime I'm going to be cleaning up these bodies as best I can. Ideally I'd be able to include some parts of the DD body I already have in the final body hybrid, but there's not really any data out there on how well the 2.0 f-3 DD goes with old 1/3 obitsu bodies (completely understandable). I guess I'll have to be the guinea pig for that.

After opening the Obitsu 60, I realized pretty quickly that the head is a parabox head. It's also TINY on this body. (MSD for scale again)

The modded mouth didn't help me with identification, but I'm pretty sure she's a parabox Ai-chan based on eye shape.
The body is definitely stained, but moreso than that, it's just like... dirty. It needs a good scrubbing down before I start trying to treat stains.
I didn't take any images myself with the clothes taken off, but the torso and limbs are different colors. And it's not from yellowing, because the limbs are pinker. According to what the listing said, the torso pieces were replaced 2-3 years ago, so they're not the originals.

I think what's going on is that the torso pieces are "whitey," while the limbs are in the other color that Obitsu 60 bodies were originally also available in (I think it was called "fleshtone"?) which means this thing is probably really old, if the joint style and old style of neck piece weren't enough proof of that. This also means that the legs on my final hybrid are gonna be a slightly different color, but he'll be wearing pants and/or an anti-stain suit at all times, so it won't really matter much, I think.

As for the Obitsu 55, I took a picture, but he looks the same as the listing photos, so I don't really feel the need to post it here. Aside from the horrific staining, this is probably the best condition I've seen an Obitsu 55 in in the current day. I'm sure it's a bit yellowed, but it's honestly very hard to tell. Any yellowing it has is very even. One knee felt like it might be a tiny bit loose, but I'm not going to be using those legs in the end, so it doesn't matter much to me.

I guess my first step is to clean the bodies, then I'll try to stain treat them, and THEN I'll switch the legs around. I've never actually had to stain treat any of my vinyl dolls yet, so this will be some good experience at the very least. Yay for expensive science experiments!

    2. Woah good luck! I always love seeing a good restauration project and hope the parts clean up easily. Looking forward to seeing the progress :)

    3. Pre-cleaning part 1: Obitsu 60

Obviously, water and soap aren't going to get of the stains, but it's not a bad idea to get the pieces clean before trying to treat them. Especially this Obitsu 60, because the torso pieces were pretty dirty. After struggling a bit with the legs, i managed to disassemble the doll well enough to comfortably wipe it down.

      Today's patient:
As you can see, it's... pretty bad. The listing mentioned that the torso pieces were changed 2-3 years ago. Obviously the pieces themselves are older than that, but like... how does it get this bad in 2-3 years of use? Genuinely.

Spoilered because it's genuinely pretty gross. But now you see what we're working with here.
Luckily most of this came off extremely easily with just a tiny bit of water and soap. Here are some comparison photos:

The torso piece is still a little bit dirty, but it is SO much better. I similarly wiped down the limbs, but they're not as dirty, and/or the dirt is a lot harder to get off. i got a little bit off of the hands, but I was having to basically scrape it, and I do not want to do all that for the arms or legs, which are much larger than the hands.

The Obitsu 55 is nowhere near as dirty/grimy as this poor thing, but I'll still wipe it down next. Might as well.

    4. Yay 1/3 obitsus! Funnily enough I have two of the 55cm boy bodies in reasonably good condition, I forgot they were on-topic here. It’s good to see them around

I’ve always wanted to do the 60cm leg mod for them as 55 is a bit short for me. Looking forward to see how it turns out!

    5. I adore Obitsu dolls!! I have a couple myself. :) One of them is in a bad way for stain removal, so I'll be taking some tips from you.

    6. Yes! I also love the 1/3 Obitsus. I wish the 55s were just a little bit taller, which is what led me to this in the first place :) I'm kind of surprised they never also made a 60 cm boy body. I know at some point they made a male chest piece for the 60 cm body, and you can do the leg swap for the 55 cm too of course, but 60 cm boys seem like such a weird blind spot for vinyl companies. I love my girlies but sometimes I want a doll who's not a girl, is that so much to ask...???

Good luck with your stain removal too! I've actually never had to do it before, but these dolls need it pretty badly, so... trial by fire I guess :XD: I'm in no hurry though, so it's fine if it ends up taking a while to clean them up.

As a bonus, I did a quick test fit of the 60 legs on the 55 torso earlier. I didn't push them on ALL the way, maybe just like 90% of the way, because I didn't want to spend 30 more minutes trying to get them back off again. Also, the difference in the skin tones between parts is either barely noticeable or extremely drastic depending on the lighting. It won't be noticeable most the time once he's got clothes on, but he's just going to have a really weird farmer's tan, I guess.
Very leggy. But all Obitsu 60s are kind of like that. I'm not a huge fan of how these joints look, but the "ball joint" version of the body has skinnier legs, so maybe it's better I ended up with this one? I saw someone's 55/60 hybrid with the ball joint legs on an old Japanese blog post once and it looked a little bit silly. Clothes probably cover that up too, though.

    7. Pre-cleaning part 2: Obitsu 55
This one honestly didn't need much cleaning, so I didn't take before/after photos. I think there was a small patch of dirt on one of the feet and that's pretty much it.
I took the time to take some comparison photos for the two bodies though because I was curious. The entirety of the height difference is in the legs, the torso and arms are all the same length.
Legs. Like I said, this is the sole source of the height difference.
Arms. The 55's arms are sculpted so much more nicely...
      Torsos (taken apart)
      Torsos (assembled)
It seems at some point they changed the design for where the thigh joints attach. That being said, the thigh joints themselves seem to be the exact same for both. The torso pieces split in slightly different places.
Also, the Obitsu 60 bust sculpt reminds me so much more of the Azone azo2 busts rather than the regular obitsu 50 busts. I thought that was interesting.
Terrible photo, but azo2 c-bust next to obitsu 50 m-bust for reference.

    8. Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy! Anyway, I tried about 4 rounds of acne cream for stain treatment, but I don't think it was doing anything, so I gave in and bought some dream rescue. I've done two rounds of dream rescue on the obitsu 55 torso so far and I think it's started helping a tiny bit? Here's a colorpicked comparison photo (taken in the same lighting but at different times of day):
also, like half of my photos seem to be broken now... thanks postimages... I might fix that eventually. some day. maybe.

    9. All the images in this thread is showing up fine for me. Are you sure it's not just the old image bug acting up?
You can check by quoting your own post, if the images are showing up in the reply box the links are still fine and it's unlikely that the problem lies with your host.

I don't think we ever got an official reply from DoA on what is causing it, but it does appear to be a band width problem on their end. It does tend to be worse if images are large, or many in one post, and during high traffic hours. But it's always partly random.
Refreshing the page can sometimes coax images to show up, but not always.

    10. Weird! My internet sucks so that might be it…

    11. All images show up for me too - agreed with Lilith, it's just the DoA bug where photos sometimes break during peak hours, it happens to everyone. Nothing to do with your internet speed or image host, so no need to worry - they reappear in time :)
