hi all!! i have a head in soom tawny, and i found a really lovely DFA body for sale at a great price. the body is in DFA light tan. i wondered if anyone had experience hybriding these two, and how it came out, or any general advice at all? thanks!!
Soom matching colours are quite popular, so many dollmakers offer a match, but one thing to be mindful of is that Soom's resin is notoriously inconsistent – some people have even bought new dolls from Soom where various parts of the body weren't the same colour. If you know what year's Tawny the head is, it might help getting a better match Looking up DF-A tan and Soom tawny in the Photo Reference section might help see if they're relatively close.
Almost every Chinese BJD company offers Soom tawny (light tan) nowadays so it's pretty easy to match. If your head isn't a Soom head, it has an even better chance of matching because everyone knows what colour Soom tawny is except for Soom I imagine their light tan is supposed to be a Soom tawny match, since they also have milktea which usually correlates to Switch milktea rose, and they also have other common skin matches. You could always ask just to be sure, but more than likely your match will be pretty close. I've had success matching Soom tawny heads and bodies myself.
thank you!! the head is not a soom head, it is an artist head which i have been told is in soom tawny; so hopefully it will match closely enough XD
yep, it’s not actually a soom head - it’s an artist head that is in soom tawny!! hopefully they’ll match closely enough!
It should be pretty close, maybe one slightly yellower or pinker than the other. The real precaution to take after that is maybe spraying the head with sealant if it won't have a faceup for a long time, because the resin for artist heads might yellow faster than the body.
