I'm James, and it's my first day! Please excuse any shoddy formatting, it's been a long time since I've been on any forum sites. I'm a UK-based doll collector and artist, but I'm new to BJDs specifically. I've been aware of the hobby for a long time, and I've finally been bitten by the bug and bought my first blank base this morning - an Island Doll Tear Island body & Wind Island head. I'm very excited to work with them, the sculpting is beautiful and the 1/6 scale feels very comfortable and familiar to me. I hope to create my own dolls from scratch in the future - ideally once I knuckle down and learn to use Blender - but for the time being I'm here to learn, observe, and customise. I'd love to meet other trans and/or male collectors and artists, it's a community that I haven't really tapped into before and I'd love to meet others like me.
Hahahaha, truly I fear for my wallet when I have access to the marketplace here That being said, life is short and I have a full time job for a reason... more dolls couldn't hurt too much!
I see no problem here :p In all seriousness, the hope is that when my partner and I move into our own place I'll have a dedicated doll room/workshop Who needs a guest bedroom, eh?
{SNERT!} Our spare bedroom has more dolls in it AND all the boxes of clothing shoes, wigs etc, as well as the shelves of dollmaking supplies. The sewing room also has more dolls... There are a few in our bedroom too, and some around my computer in the boxroom we pretentiously refer to as "The Study" Admittedly they're not all BJD's so perhaps baming the addictiveness on BJDs instead of dolls in general is a bit unfair, but I intended to just get one BJD back in 2004, and now I have over 50 of the things as well as all the other types of doll. Oh yeah, totally get that. I actually ended up with a (non-BJD) doll back in ~2022 and ended up with about 50 by the start of this year, too. I recently slimmed my collection down to 30 or so, so I'm *totally* in a good place to start on the BJDs this year. I'm excited to see how quickly it takes over my life!
