Howdy from Texas!

Feb 21, 2023

    1. Hello and nice to meet y'all! :XD:

I'm 33 years old and born and raised in TX. I started collecting BJDs in I think 2007? 2008? My first ever doll was Luts Delf Harang. So cute! I've also owned some dolls from Fairyland, Switch, Dollstown, Volks, and Echo Town over the years. Around 2015 or 2016 I sold most of my dolls and took a break. I needed to focus on what I really wanted out of the hobby because I felt like I was making too many impulse buys without having any vision for what I wanted my collection to look like. Now I'm refocused and back in the doll world! I used to be pretty active in the doll groups on Facebook, but since I have since stopped using social media I finally decided to give the big doll forum a shot.

Currently my doll family is down to just one, my Dollfie Dream Hatsune Miku with custom faceup. She stuck with me through my big sell-off, not only because I love the Project Diva games, but also because my then-boyfriend now-husband helped me get her :D But I've also got a beautiful MYOU Chelses on her way in a few months that I'm super excited for, and trying to get one more (1/6 scale) but I don't want to jinx it by saying too much before she's locked in. I am definitely planning to keep my doll family on the smaller side this time at least for now.

My other hobbies include 3d modeling, music, and video games. And I have a dog and cat who are my spoiled furbabies. I've been learning to crochet and I'd really like to try and pick up sewing again so I could make some stuff for my dolls.

I'm looking forward to sharing some photos of my dolls, and more importantly I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's beautiful dolls (and I had no idea there was a doll con in Dallas last weekend :frownyblush: next year!)

    2. Welcome fellow Texan!
Dollcon Dallas was a lot of fun. I highly recommend it esp if you're local. I think its one of the most affordable bjd/bjd-adjacent focused cons.
3d modeling combined with a 3d printer can def be nice to use in the hobby too whether in accessory making or straight up doll making!
I look forward to seeing what you'll do!

    3. Thanks, I am in local so I definitely want to check it out next year and hope to see you there!

I started learning 3d modeling for game dev so modeling characters is something I've become pretty comfortable with, I have even modeled a head that I would love to print some day although I think 3d printed dolls aren't allowed here from what I read in the rules? I don't have the resin printer yet. But I saw some posts about it in the workshop section so maybe I can learn about resin printing here! :XD::love If nothing else making doll props would be very cool, my friend in the hobby keeps telling me that when I get the resin printer she's got a long doll-stuff to-do list ready for me :mwahaha

Thanks for the encouragement and stay cool this week! Well until the weekend and then stay warm! *_* dang Texas weather lol.

    4. Howdy! I'm not quite local but still Texan and in the hobby as well! I have to second that about DCD, both years have been a blast and I really enjoyed myself there. You'd be impressed to hear how many people fly in for it too, or at least I was! I'm also a fan of Project Diva, I'd love to see your Miku!

Waiting on dolls is so bittersweet, but so exciting when they finally come in!
I mostly have MSDs but I've got a few in other sizes as well.
      Welcome back to the hobby!

    5. Hey there! Fellow Texan here :thumbup Welcome to the community! I also missed the doll con in Dallas last weekend, but I'm hoping to for sure make it next year, so maybe we'll see each other!

MYOU makes beautiful dolls! I've considered getting a couple of dolls from them myself -- but the time hasn't come yet. Perhaps soon! I'm sure you're very excited about your Chelsea!

I haven't been in the hobby as long as others here, but please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need any help looking around! I'm happy to try :3nodding:

    6. Hi! I'm another Texas (DFW area) collector, welcome!

I completely understand getting caught up in impulse buys, I jumped back into the hobby after having one lonely Kid Delf Darae for years and now my dolls keep growing in number. I hope you get the 1/6 one you're after :3nodding: that size is so cute.

    9. Welcome. I came into the hobby because I wanted a Miku doll. Ironically I still don't own a Miku, but my nearest to Miku is probably Kizuna AI.

    11. Nice to meet you, fellow Texan!

As someone just starting out in the hobby, I absolutely understand the desire to impulse buy :...( If only I had more space and more money right? But like you said, it's good to keep a clear vision of where you want your collection to go. As for Doll-Con Dallas, I thought I was the only one who had NO idea it was taking place. It would be super fun to meet lots of people from the forum someday!

      Have a good one :)

    12. Totally. I can tell you from my first time around, when I started, I was collecting all kind of beautiful dolls whose sculpting I admired so much! :D
But I had no idea how I wanted to style them!! I might get as far as a wig and face up.... but then my poor dollies when they were lucky enough to have clothes it was always something "temporary," and it would always be something temporary, because I never had a plan from the start, I just bought it because it's pretty :( I could always come up with some kind of back story or personality but there was just no vision.
At some point I had to accept that if I didn't have any plan for a doll, it probably wasn't going to come to me after the doll arrived :blush So now I'll only buy dolls if I have a clear vision for them, even if I can't get or make them everything right away I have some goals to work towards!

Maybe that could help you out in your buying decisions. Of course everyone's different and some people can be inspired by having the doll in their hands. Just, if you want to see if that's you, try to test it with one doll, don't let the wait time build up more and more purchases  I think many of us have been there!

Maybe we and our dolls will meet each other at Doll-Con next time :D Welcome to the bjd hobby!

    13. Buying outfits just because they're pretty is so relatable! I too had no "vision" or "character" in mind with my first doll. To be honest, getting more clothes was just an excuse to completely spoil the doll and see how pretty he looked in all the new clothes :XD: In the end, that seems to be exactly my goal: Just get pretty things and make the doll look pretty, no thoughts, head empty.

But yes!! I would love to have our dolls meet someday too! Hope that happens soon!!! :celebrate
