Sculpting How to sculpt the mouth?

Jul 10, 2008

    1. Hi, I've been a lurker on this part of the forum for ages, and this week I have decided to have a go at making a YO SD girl to match my Leeke D boy. All seemed to be going well until I got to the mouth. Gosh knows how many sculpts later I cannot for the life of me make the mouth. I have looked through all the tutorials I can find but they all sort of just say "sculpt the mouth..." and there it is. Could someone please help me?

    5. This rocks. I've got a different system for the bottom lip, but the top lip is excellent! Thank you for posting this!

    6. this is cool! 8D but its diff to sculpt on a tiny head.. or maybe it's just i'm too lousy..XD

    7. Probably not lousy, but out of practice. It takes a lot of work and small manipulation of the mouth to get it just right. Keep at it! This tutorial is the best!

    8. This is a fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much for posting it! It explains everything so well so I shall definately be reffering to it! *hugs*

WOW! Thank you sooooooo much for making this; you are incredibly talented! I think I had the general jist of the idea right- what with making the sort of triangle thing, I just needed all the rest of it to make it look like a mouth hehhe!

    9. You should post a tutorial on how to get your fingers under the nose to smooth out the mouth :) or even a nose tutorial! Totally useful!

    10. Claudine, do you have a collection of these photos somewhere (I just saw the one on ears)? It is extremely helpful.

    11. I wrote a book on sculpting a doll, it has lots of step by step pictures. It's a doll with a fabric body, but the sculpting of the head, hands and feet is very detailed. But, it's only available in Dutch... sorry....

    12. Does it have pictures? Like the ones you've been sharing? Can I buy it in the US? I'm very excited about this!

    13. I want to see what your dolls will be when you bring them out of your head..:cheer

    14. Taylor of Gene Land?

    15. Hey Fairy! I've seen your tutorial and your dolls before! Wonderful!

    16. Oh this thread is great. I've been having the worst time with my girl's lips. I'll try these out. Thanks~

    17. heheh that is so very true! I tried doing the lips then the nose..kinda worked :)

    18. I was thinking that I would make a step-by-step plaque just like Claudine's to practice while I'm waiting for my Yoshida style book.

Noses! If we could see noses and eyes, we would have the whole face!

Although, I have to say that I bought Claudine's book and it's really good at showing you how to do the whole face, which is useful even if I can't read Dutch, lol.

    19. Just a quick warning re the sculpting - never, ever put styrofoam in the oven. It gives off very toxic fumes. :ablah:

    20. While this is true for most types of styrofoam, I've come across a few sites which say you can use ... polystyrene ... I think, in the oven with no ill effects. I think it's the same type that styrofoam coffee cups are made out of.
